Side note, but important. In my opinion, this has to be the "best RU-vid video series" here by Vice that has ever been made/presented since the birth of such technology as RU-vid. Being that in almost real-time, daily videos of actual "history in the making" can be viewed by a guy from Detroit, Michigan, USA, me. And how I'm able to follow such information through these videos that it makes one feel so invested and informed on this "history in the making" that's happening on the other side of the world is incredible. It's a beautiful thing how far us humans have come. PS. Thank you Vice for making that happen.

This isn't right. Protests shouldn't be grabbing the man and throwing him into an angry mob because he is supposed to protect the base that is meant to defend the people..

If all these people don't want to be "ukrainians" why all you guys force them to? Is it a "freedom" you talking about all the time? This is old news. We've known for the last month that Ukraine and Kiev are not in control anymore and Ukraine is in a state of decay, meaning in splitting up into smaller, more or less independent regions. There is nothing that Kiev can do about it. If the ukrainian police and authorities cannot be in control, then that part of the country is lost. And if the lack of action is a political decision, then it tells something about Ukraine. They keep telling that Ukraine is a sovereign state etc, but it seems that if the law and order is lost by their command or by lack of obeing command, then these areas are no longer any part of sovereign ukraine. I don't undestand why there was a need for a military operation and why they had to call it "anti-terrorist operation" as it's clearly internal matter and should have been handled by the police. At this point, ukriane should raise their hands up and make the call that if different regions want to vote, let them vote and then just go with the flow. Kiev has lost it's control and authority.

Im confused why/how the proRussian supporters found their way out to the military base? Political buildings, I understand, maybe even the police station, but the military base is obviously outside of the city. What is the motive here?

Okay, to all the people here saying "If you like Russia so much why don't you move there": 1) Many of these people just oppose the current government and want more rights for their region, the Donbass. 2) Even those who want to join Russia don't want to leave their home. These people no longer feel represented by their nation, no longer feel like they are a part of it, but they still feel connected to their home region.

Someone sane, can you explain WHY in ALL European countries there are US Troops (one country from the continent of North America) ?! ARE THEY PROTECTING US, OR HAVE THEY OCCUPIED US ?! The same people who now claim that Eastern European countries were OCCUPIED by the USSR are now explaining how SOVEREIGN we are, despite US MILITARY BASES on our territory! Let us remember that when we were members of the Warsaw Pact, there were NO Russian MILITARY BASES! Why, after the military alliance "Warsaw Pact" dissolved itself, the United States did not dissolve NATO, but "invited" all former allies of Russia (USSR) to join NATO ?! If one country keeps troops in another country and interferes in the INTERNAL and EXTERNAL AFFAIRS of the country, can it not be considered as a state - OCCUPIER ?! US troops, in addition to OCCUPYING the whole of Europe, have been conducting military maneuvers along the Russian border for years ?! Who is the AGGRESSOR, in this case? Isn't it high time the US Troops returned home before putting Europe in a GLOBAL WAR ?! According to Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, MILITARY ASSISTANCE is provided, in the event of an ARMED ATTACK, against one of the parties! To understand what's happening in Ukraine now, you need to understand what exactly is Ukraine. -The regions that are currently rebelling against the new government and seek either federalisation of the state or even secession are located in the south-east, which is also known as Novorossiya ("New Russia"). It belonged to Russia and Russians lived there. Ukraine did not conquer this territory, Ukraine received it as a gift from Russian leaders. But the territory came with the people living there. And naturally, the ones living there were Russians. -Yanukovich, which was overthrown in February by the Maidan revolutionists, won the presidential elections mainly thanks to the votes from the Russian speaking regions (aka - Eastern Ukraine). So he was a pro-Eastern/pro-Russian president. -The ones who overthrew Yanukovich largely represent western Ukraine. (thus are pro-western) So what we have here is that a president, which was democratically elected, and represented eastern Ukraine, was illegally thrown out of power by western Ukraine. Naturally eastern Ukraine would feel outraged and insecure. They took up arms and started claiming independence, not because they're "traitors", but because they clearly understand that this is a conflict not between Ukraine and "Russian diaspora", but between Western Ukraine and Eastern Ukraine.

I cant wrap my head around this conflict... Why not just let Ukrain be an independent nation without US/EU/Jewish or Russian influences. Let them make their own deals and let them make their own laws...

Right after they grabbed him, surrounded him, pulled him into a crowd, impeded national military activity, and they were all screaming in his face.
