Pro's and Con's of Living in Chicago - The Albany Park Neighborhood 

Born in raised in Albany Park love that area changed so much

I've Been her Since 1989. We were one of the 1st Black Families to Be here. The neighborhood has improved A LOT. In the late 80's & 90's there were LOTS OF GANGS, AND DRUG HOUSES. Like you said it's a Very Diverse Neighborhood so the gangs are of many ethnicities. They got rid of a lot of old drug houses, turned them into condos, Planted Drake Gardens, Turned Jensen Park into Aspira Haugan Middle School, Made 17th District Police Station Bigger ( The Old one is a Chinese Restaurant lol ). con = Lot's of Homeless people Sleeping and drinking on the streets. Pro = Homeless People are Friendly and some have been here All my life. Not Seeing Screwie Louie, Brown Line Ben, Popeye's Pedro, Wheel Chair Willie or Dunkin Dan is Not Normal, so get used to it. I Love Albany Park and even with the new spike in crime here it's a lot safer than when I was a kid. All of Albany park isn't " Dirty " some parts are Filthy and Don't Turn Out The Light or Let The Bed Bugs Bite Ewwwwww. Some are Clean and neat and such a treat No Bugs Rats I Love Where I'm At. If you lived in Albany Park in the 80's, 90's and Up, you know how the hood has changed. No more Hookers Walking Lawrence, No more Gang Bangers on the corner selling drugs. Be patient we've come so far although we still a Way To Go.

I used to go to school in Albany Park ( Hibbard School) We left when I was a teenager but we regret it. Since the neighborhoods have gotten soooo nice now. So many restaurants etc. And transportation is the best. No need to drive. I miss Chicago so much.
