Yes, the show was SO CRINGY with pushing the fake drama and type of editing. Making it like James Charles youtube show which was also cringy because of how fake it felt. If it was about the friendship that clearly was there but edited out a lot, it would have been much much better. Only watching to support the simmers, but it’s been pretty cheesy 😅 I love all the simmers though 🥰

@@roxydots5153 I mean once again they can make it like bikes and have it so you can ride around or use it to go places, just like bikes you could keep it in your inventory so no one can actually steal it. It is quite possible with what EA has currently just instead of having a bicycle you just change it out with a car. I am not exactly sure how that would work but they already have existing stuff that could be used.

Even Kelsey doesn't - she mainly plays a challenge and then all her side tangents are about exploring a pack but really just having her offspring find love... But yeah some people are literally just builders or CC makers, play challenges, create Sims all day, or like the wreck havok. Weighing storytelling so heavily just isn't an accurate reflection of us.....

Exactly. They didn't say build an unconventional mode of transport, they said build a mode of transport using unconventional MATERIALS. I did love the time machine however so I'm fine with the decision plus the other team won in the end anyway so.. but yeah, the judges did switch it up or forgot the original briefing.

Im so glad Im not the only one that noticed this! I got so upset because they judged based on something that wasn’t even part of the challenge. It was to build something with unconventional materials. Like, you can’t use a train to build a train you have to build a train using other materials.... so why did it get twisted to unconventional mode of transportation? 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

And forcing the sim gurus to do a lot of public speaking; more than a few of them don't look comfortable up there, and add in this fake, over-exaggerated drama and trying to pin them against each other just makes it worse. Also the judges - sometimes I feel like they just need to be a lil more chill.

Social Anxiety really sucks. I feel for her. This whole show seemed to take some of the most anxious socially awkward gamers out there (Simmers) and was like "Lets put them into the spotlight and make them uncomfortable."

I also feel that Steph in her own yt videos talks about a lot of topical things and swears etc and probs wouldn’t have been allowed to do that here. Probs was another big factor like in the first episode when she had a blank I reckon her mind was going to the more risqué jokes 😂 love her though, and agree 100% she probs should have been the stylist or builder.

The gender non-conformity styling challenge was a flop to me because of how the meshes look on both genders. Ex: males wearing blouses or dresses have non-existent breasts and females have weird crotches that are super deep and unnatural as well as pointy breasts whenever they wear pants and tops that are considered masculine.

i also feel like the contestants could have done more with it. for a challenge relating to gender and fashion, they really didnt delve into the 'gender' part. none of the sims went by they/them pronouns, it was all he/her stuff, disappointing lack of trans sims too

A challenge about diversity whilst every pre made Sim in the game looks almost exactly the same in body shape and skin colour. And how is selling a house telling a story? I mean just look at the base game in diversity there is like maybe 1% of diversity like I'd say half of the base game sims are combined with Black sims, Asian sims, and other sims of color. Then there is no single parents, there are barely no overweight or underweight sims, etc

I think the presentation aspect is really tough- Steph is phenomenal behind the camera but I know public speaking makes me incredibly anxious and I think it might have been the best decision for her rather than having to do this storytelling impromptu speech. I think if they change the format up to give the players more time and the ability to show their strengths it would really improve the show.

Steph did incredibly well to get this far, story telling has been the hardest part throughout the whole show. They should have let the players switch roles every episode to give the contestants a chance to play to their strengths

Agreed! But since they're having RU-vid sims players compete, I think the challenges should be submitted in the format of a video to be judged (because there are many people that use RU-vid as a platform that allows them to avoid proper public speaking, which is perfectly fine). Not only that, if they want to keep it to team based challenges, at each new episode, everyone has to change roles, and possibly teams. Allows them to the showcase different skills from different simmers, and gives them more interactive clips since they're struggling for drama bait clips that they clearly want (what's wrong with everyone being nice to each other?!)..... at the same time it can build up more attention for these users, thus building up even more attention for the game.

I totally agree Julia! with every single challenge I have seen that has a time limit I have been STUNNED at the lack of time these simmers are given!! They seem to expect SO MUCH by really not giving them a chance to begin with... it's almost like the sims team (and even Kelsey herself even though I love her content) have no idea how much time goes into making sims content so detailed - my anxiety would definitely be at my limit

So okay... I generally do not like the vibe this show is sending to the viewers. The way it dramatises everything and all the weird challenges. I feel the judges are not specific enough in what they want their contestant to do, like in the stylist challenge, I'm pretty sure they did not say anything about age. Also.. I gotta say I am so unhappy with the people here in comments saying they are annoyed by Steph's decision to leave and saying she should not have participated in the first place.. guys, she is human! And she tried! That's really brave when you have anxiety!! I applaud her SO much for trying, but if her gut is telling her it doesn't feel right, I love that she listens to her body, even if The English Simmer came back, they're friends, I'm pretty sure they've talked about it and are not mad at each other because of it . Please... don't be harsh on her, she is just trying her best, and sometimes you've had enough and pushing yourself does NOT mean pushing yourself to the point, where you are about to fall off a cliff. I hope Steph keeps trying, but also keeps listening to her heart

I agree. Boundaries are important, right? And it seems a boundary of hers was to not push herself beyond a certain point. So bless up, Steph0sims. Do what you got to do. Also, just because someone has anxiety doesn't mean they can't try anything new. Should they sit in a room and never come out because their fight, flight, or freeze may be triggered? Ehhh no.

Gummy Panda As someone with social anxiety myself I completely understand her but I get why you might not. When I’m with friends and people I trust I can suddenly become so much braver just because I know I have them there to support me. She might have also been feeling a lot more pressure than she did at first since she realised the next day she would be doing it alone and if she failed she’d let down her whole team. With all of that she might have just not wanted to go on and wanted a good reason to give everyone. If it was due to anxiety it’s hard for some to tell not only everyone there but also everyone watching that you were too anxious. (From personal experience I would be trying to come up with excuses or being ill or some kind of emergency just not to admit it was my anxiety). That’s just my opinion though.

I just honestly don't understand this show... It seems to be judged off of what the judges like at that time. There are no specific rules or guidelines for certain challenges. Then the judges come in and say, "Oh, we would have like to have seen..." But the participants have their own interpertation without proper guidlines. The last challenge is the perfect example of this. They sent her in to say, "focus more on transportation" however, if they wouldn't have made a place to live, they would have said something like, "why didn't you provide the sims a place a live?" The challenge was 'Create a mode of transportation with unconventional items' but then Kelsey gave feedback about it not being an 'Unconventinal mode or transportation'. I didn't really think they could really mess up something with literally no precedent, but this has been crap from the beginning. Eliminating the wrong teams, wanting depth from a game that doesn't have any without a boatload of CC, and unnecessary drama setup. People don't play this damn game because they want to do with other people's real-world drama. This year sucks enough.

I actually haven’t really like Dr.Gluon’s stories but this last challenge he did really well on the spot like that. At the same time I’ve been watching the English simmer and I love her channel but this was more of a live streamer challenge. I just think that the challenge should have been different in the first place, but it did add some laughs to the show.

Again, I said this last time, it's a really great idea, but I do wish it was more of a friendly competition, but this is edited to look otherwise. It also highlights areas the game is lacking, skintones and storytelling, the game has SO much potential and I hope they deeply reflect on those gaps Edit: btw, I don't think the actual competitors were unfriendly, just they're edited for drama, and I personally like my drama in-game and community feeling outside of it. I'm also aware they are slowly getting around to what players want, so I hope by having them brought up as lacking in a competition by very talented players really drills it home more! No shade, I love the game, and the people who make it great

I think the main thing I'm trying to take out of this show is inspiration from your builds, sims, and stories which I hope is what they were trying to do with the show. I bet she's actually relieved to be off it. The show makes my skin crawl to think of having to do it myself. I think they're doing the best they can with these challenges, but simmers being made to compete with each other... it just goes against the grain of who we are. We're a family. It feels so artificial to put them against each other and try to stir up drama.

This episode was a little underwhelming because the storyteller part wasn’t really about a story. It would have been nice for the challenge to have already a story set and make the storytellers narrate it. Other than that, I loved builders challenge they can really show off their creativity and take on the same challenge differently. The Sims creator challenge was great, I wish they took a more outside of the box genderfluid approach but the challenge was nicely set.

Honestly, this whole show feels like it doesn't know what it is. It feels like the production team came up with an incomplete framework and ran with it. Rules aren't set in stone, we're not 100% sure what people are asking for a lot of the time, and the challenges themselves don't feel like they use the game in the best way. A lot of the time, the contestants and the judges seem uncomfortable. If they do another season of this show, I think it needs a big rewrite.

Especially since it was in the rules to make it out of things it's not usually made of. Their example was making an airplane without using airplane wings. DrAshley's Time Machine looked like a time machine, made of metal and future objects and stuff. IMO, it flopped the challenge because of the very rules and example they gave. You expect a time machine to be made of metal and be full of future tech. Simlicy at least made a schoolbus out of house components and adhered to the challenge's flimsy rules. Yet for whatever reason, the judges decides to say "F*** those rules" when it came to voting.

The first time I heard about this competition I was super excited. Like, it was a competition of a game I actually am good at and really know how to play! But then I watched the first episode and realized that having a The Sims competition goes against the actual idea of the game. The sims is not a competition, you can't win or lose, you have to create your own objective and you decide your own rules. The Sims is not a competition!

Edit to explain I mean each player on a team should swap roles within that team not that they should move the stylists from team to team. They should have swapped the roles so that there was a different stylist or builder etc on each team every week.

@XxCupcakes yeah, there would. the winner is gonna be the only one, not three as the team. so mixing them up each episode would bring out the strength of every simmer individually and each of them would bring something new to the team every episode - it would make it unpredictable and kept simmers on their toes. or at least, have a point-based system where each simmer would bring a point for each part of the challenge - 1 for style, 1 for building, 1 for storyline like this episode (but without the challenges of this episode - selling the house? really? they're storytellers, not real-estate agents) and in the end just look which of them has the most points. because a participant could be the weakest part of the team and be pulled up to finale by their teammates instead of their actual skills and creativity, which is kind of unfair.

Yeah, like let's be honest here nobody actually plays with babies and toddlers You play with children for like 10 sims days or maybe 2-3 irl days You play with teens for like 15 sims days or 3-4 irl days You play with young adults for like the majority of the time you play as that sim You play as adults and elders for probably like 15 days max irl Because if they arent a young adult they dont have anything, also side note but I think that if you have university and get to work you should HAVE TO go to university for the doctor career

I spent 3 hours renovating a house from the gallery because I didn't have all the packs used, I still haven't finished yet. I also spent 2 hours restyling Sims that I downloaded from the gallery because I didn't have the packs, I haven't entirely finished all their outfits yet. So I could never make 6 Sims or an entire house in 45 mins. I also think that Steph was very brave to say she wanted to leave.

I'm so glad that xmiramira really shined in her element! (and had a chance to "redeem" herself after being given that angry black woman edit in the first episode... my whole rant on that is in the comments there... also xmiramira didn't have to redeem herself... she's amazing). I'm also really glad that drGluon got to shine in his element more as an on-the-spot kind of storyteller. In the past episodes, his stories weren't quite succinct bc of the youtube-leaning storytelling but I'm really glad he got to do something that shows his skillset

I was only familiar with xmiramira and DrGluon through this show and I had a really negative opinion of them at first because of the way the show painted them. xmiramira came off as mean and narcissistic and DrGluon came off as stubborn and argumentative. I'm glad that they are finally taking that facade off of them because for people that don't know them, they really put them in a negative light those first couple episodes. If they continue this show they really need to drop the drama.

The fact someone left the show on their own just shows how toxic this whole series was for the sims community. I hope they go back to the drawing board and revamp this show to better showcase sims gameplay and challenges cause CLEARLY there are problems.

I think over the course of this show we've seen some strengths and weaknesses of the game and how they can affect different types of gameplay; as market research or insight into areas of potential growth and improvement, I think that's okay. However, Spark'd has been weak as a show, with sometimes not well-considered or defined challenges, which sometimes don't even have much to do with gameplay as much as with presentation (especially the story challenge this episode). Not to mention The Sims is a rather time-consuming solo-play game with few-to-no inbuilt competitive elements, which makes it a poor choice for a time-based competition show. I think the biggest upside to all this is seeing the seasoned players and knowing The Sims community has generated this much interest, enough to attempt such a show at all, but I'd personally rather see creator showcases, or for the company's resources to focus more on the betterment of the game than its marketing. A great product sells itself.

Yes! I love the idea of having a competition around the sims, but it would have been better if they were given ample time to create amazing things that make all of us viewers go "WOW!" rather than setting them up to fail with impossible time limits and ill-defined challenges and making us watch them get trashed for it.

So if the building and styling categories focus solely on build mode and cas respectively. Then it should be that the storytelling category focuses solely on live gameplay right? I don’t feel that this challenge effectively reflected that. I think to have a challenge that effectively judged storytelling in The Sims, whilst removing the building and CAS aspects, they could have done something like: You’re given 5 pre-made households, you have to choose 1 household to pair with 1 of 5 possible pre-made lots (throughout 5 possible worlds). Depending on which you chose: you then have to come up with a storyline and household dynamic to reflect through the live gameplay and the setting you selected. Just what I would have done if I was a producer on the show lol

Aeon Flux I quite like his jokes. I find them a mix of my Aussie jokes and British humour . It would be so nervous to be in front of so many big cameras and such. Yeah, there was no story in the storytelling challenge. No planning. Just walk through this area and come up with whatever things on the fly. What I thought they would do, before they said what the challenge was, would be to try and connect the sims from the cas challenge and the builds from that challenge. And truly I think that would be a better challenge for a STORY than to try and go around a house and talk about how it’s so weird and quirky.

Aside from the color wheel in TS3, TS4 has the most variety of skin tones in the franchise. You didn't get much of a choice with TS1, TS2 was very limited as well. I'm talking about base game and not including CC.

You never GAVE us height sliders.. but yeah let us just do that task for you.... This show is just weird. 1) create a diversive styling collection - with the worst looking Sims CAS ever. 2) create a unconventional mode of transport - nice idea to use unconventional items BUT bold from EA without modes of transport in the game, except of bikes and debug cars. 3) sell an weird and ugly house guided by a sim guru. As a story teller. Why that? That challenge makes no sense. I hope for an acceptable final round, because this round was kinda strange.

Theme of mode of transportation? There is no way of doing that in the sims 4. It will always look bad. Best you can do is a trailer home, but the exterior is not going to look good in 45 minutes.

I think what could have worked is if they did the individual skills challenge first (like all four builders go head to head), eliminated one of each type, and then formed the teams based on who they think will work well together. The first episode was a mess because they just jumped into it, needing to figure out how to work together on top of figuring everything else out.

Hopefully the team realize that we don't want "drama" and we want them to get along and have a good time. There's enough drama in the world, most people use the sims to escape the drama.
