This Hemi-Powered 1971 Dodge Demon Pro Stock drag car was built by SOX & MARTIN for the 1971 Pro Stock season. It only raced for ONE SEASON, and was put away in the owner's shed until 1985. Then, it was sold to a racer in Kentucky, who repainted it and raced it for a short time. From there, the car went missing for a little while and was finally found in Florida. The grandson of the original owner tracked the car down and bought it from the Florida man. He then restored the car back to its original 1971 configuration. Check out the beautifully restored historic drag car, as well as some awesome old school photos of this car in its heyday.

4:40 - Seeing the "Keystone" mags brought back some old memories. I used to to work for the company that made them in Richmond BC Canada. It was called EBCO and myself and a high-school friend, Paul Diotte (RIP), worked the chrome line. I can still remember walking the slippery 1X6 wooden boards between the caustic soda tanks fishing out items that had fallen in. Thank God I never went for a swim :)

I would go to many east coast meets to watch Ronnie Sox. He was such a nice guy. Very quiet. Would always take a minute to talk. We lost him to cancer I think it was 2006.It was a very sad time for drag racing......... When he got behind the wheel to drive, you could see it in his face. ALL BUSINESS. He was a master at reaction time and when he went down the track ,you would SWEAR that his car had an automatic transmission. He was that fast at ripping gears.........God bless Mr. Four Speed.

Thanks for bringing this story to us, brings back many memories, I remember a guy here in Pontiac Michigan had a 70-71 Demon that was built by Ramchargers, this was back when we would block traffic on I-75, run a race, then let traffic resume, we would trailer the cars to the weigh scales, unload, race, truck & trailer follow the car, load back up, get the heck out of there, this was usually done in the middle of the night...those were the days...the late 1970's early 80's were my heyday, still heavy into it now, we have so much $$$$ in our 65 mustang we could have bought a decent house...but there is other addictions that are definitely more harmful...keep these awesome video's coming

this, to me, is what I grew up dreaming about. s/s & p/s dusters, novas, Camaros, darts, these were the more common, less expensive bodies, cars that I could afford to buy, and build, as a kid, and it was much closer to home for me. early '70s eliminators, is where my heart is. these are the ones we need to take care of, everyone, don't let these late '60s early 70s super stocks & pro stocks get forgotten about. '80s, '90s, well, it just wasn't like the early '70s super stocks. it's not that they weren't cool, but this was the era that got me into drag cars & hot rods, as a child. I saw this, and I instantly had to see this video, I mean, this is the look I wanted to drive to high school in, everyday. this is the look that got me into hot Rodding. it wasn't floppers, although cool, it wasn't pro Street, which was just being born, at the time I was deep into this. this was it. right here. door slammers. sorry that I had to write a book here, but I hope you enjoyed your holiday, and I wanted to thank you, for all the cool videos you allow me to watch, on this crappy ass internet. 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯

I saw these racecars back in the day . We match raced Don Carlton who drove the Melrose missile originally . The Tennessee thunder car I saw many times . Melrose missile could run the nines on a bad track . Remember in those days we use Rosson . We had a Camaro that was a ten 0 car it was sponsored by lowe Chevrolet out of Maryland . We went to southern Virginia right of the board of Tennessee to a racetrack that literally was in the middle of nowhere . We had to wait for them to chase the cows off . Before we could race . Surprisingly we drew about 3000or 4000 people . It was going to be two out of three . We won the first Don won the second . Then we broke driveshaft . Couldn't make the final . It was one long ride home . Our tow vehicle was a converted Coca-Cola truck . With a 330 Ford Motor . Slow as hell and doubt if it got 9 miles to the gallon . Keep up the good work .

I believe that was ol' Herb Mc Candless up there grinnin'. I met him in 2005 at Rockingham along with Ronnie Sox before he died. Both were outstanding gentlemen. I have an autographed picture with Ronnie Sox that I cherish. He raced his old " bacarruda" against" I think his name was Bob Reed?in a match race. I think Reed actually owned both cars then. Ronnie terminally ill and still worked that 4 speed like in his prime and won the race as I recall. Thats a great story about grandson getting grand dads car.
