hai zac bulids, your project is wonderfull.💪 keep up spirit to share other sound systems, your creation is usefull for me because my hobby is make speaker too,. my last creation is mini bluetooth speaker using PVC water pipe but still not perfect and litte bit annouying sounds. although i do trial 3 weeks with 8 ohm 5 watt speaker. so i hope get many inspirations from yours to make my creation better next time. if you have suggestions, let’s me know. 😊
I prefer magnet to magnet as it's self centering, and if you use north on one diagonal and south on the other, you can make the facia repel if it's the wrong way up, which could help if the drivers are positioned off centre
2 Tips from an audio engineer: you dont want magnets near the speaker cause the magnetic field will interfer with the coil. and those wooden grills are likely to produce some high frequent distortion. Make them thiner or better leave them out! Anyways great design!
The grills are going to cause all kinds of distortion, not just high frequency. Ideally you'd never use a grill, but these are particularly obstructive, not much to do about the thickness though...
@@lio1234234 in acoustics every object must be seen as a relation to the wavelength. For waves with long length (bass) the grid is invisible because of diffraction. Therefore you will not have any distortion.
It's the mid and high frequencies that will be most effected by the wood baffles ,a single full range speaker will have a lumpy output at various frequencies that's part of the reason for multi driver array's but that's a whole new can of worms.
1 mistak, the solid grill holds up the "sound throw' for at least 40% Listen to it with and without grill. I bet you it sounds better without. Great build!
Hey Zac, as usual I thoroughly enjoyed the build. Impressed with the design elements - the miters for the box so that the wood grain has continuity, and the bleaching... I've never thought that was an option! Keep up the good work and the passion for building. Probably couldn't expect you to send me a speaker all the way to Botswana.
Love your builds Zac; I learn a ton from watching you think through a project. Thanks for showing the good and bad and how you adjust; really helps in my own learning & I really appreciate it.
I often use countersunk magnets and fit one surface mounted on one face, and the opposite face has them in a hole just slightly deeper than the two magnets together so they never actually touch ( you don't want fragments of neodymium coming loose if they connect) Another benefit of this is that the surface magnet gets pulled into the hole like a peg, which is really satisfing and keeps the facia rigidly positioned. Also, if you put a north and a south on the face and the opposite in the holes, you basically magnetically key the facia to only fit one way
Love the video, it was incredibly useful to see how you cut the miters on the speaker box. Also, loved how you showed the bleaching process on the walnut. Kelly Wearstler has bleached walnut stairs that are just beautiful.
Thanks Torrell! Those cuts were definitely a bit tricky, but all is well that ends well haha. I'll definitely check out those bleached stairs, that sounds awesome.
Absolutely stunning - the pro one is next level for a portable speaker build. Really want to do a build like this and this is great motivation :) Well done as always!
princess auto has an electric spray gun nozzle for 29.99 this week . not sure if it would do the job but its interesting to me and not a huge investment.
@kamranafzaal11 Hey Zac! Can you specify the specs of the Amplifier Board? Both boxes are awesome but 2nd one is amazing. I will defiantly use your ideas in my DIY Speaker Box.
Hey Kamran! You can find all the info about the board I used here: www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Audio-KAB-250v4-2-x-50W-Class-D-Audio-Amplifier-Board-with-Bluetooth-5.0-325-505 Thanks for the kind words man!
@ozsaul72 - My wife is now worried I am going to buy a CNC router. She might be right. Great build. Lovely speaker build. Didn't know about wood bleaching but loved that too.
@alexandardesign I actually don't really expect to win this as I'm Serbia, Europe, but I had to say I love your videos, and this one is probably one of my favorites. Keep up the good work :)
Thanks Alex and no need to worry man, I left the wording on the contest rules vague because I want it to be a global give away. If you win, I'll find a way to ship it to you. Cheers man.
Very nice, like the oak accent strip. Reminds me of stereo equipment from back in the 1970’s when I got my first stereo receiver. Would love to enter, only I don’t do that Instagram thing.
A lot of good ideas man, thanks and I really seen your video in this morning. Thanks man. I like, subscribe and click the notification bell, I am looking forward into this video. Keep It up man
@Janiegnzlz, I've been thinking about building a Bluetooth soundbar for a while now. Just need to pull the trigger. I love walnut not bleached walnut tho. Really cool build still
I'd love to win this, but I don't want my IG name out there and the resulting spam that comes from it. But thanks for the offer. That bleached wood looks amazing! I'm stealing that idea for sure.
Yes it almost certainly does affect the sound and creates "diffraction". It was a stylistic choice that I made knowing full well it would, but the effect is relatively minimal. Cheers man
Speaker box air volume question. You never said if you designed each box based on the driver's recommended box volume, how did you decide on the size of the boxes?
Good question! The kit came with a recommended interior volume, which I did match these boxes too. There's so much to cover I often forget to include stuff 😂
@serboboski I think my comment just got lost to the void, but it autocorrected your name and I was trying to fix it lol, awesome job on this build and keep doing the awesome things you do!
Hey Douglas I'm actually working on a follow up video about batteries. But long story short, I ended up ordering some Panasonic cells. They cost about 5 times as much BUT they aren't a fire hazard haha. I ordered them from a flashlight enthusiast website
I was intrigued by the craftsmanship of your work. I did carpentry work fot great deal of my life. I was pleased your presentation & design. Great job! 😊😊😊
@@ZacBuilds Definitely! My dad is really into rc cars, and customizes them mostly with airbrush. Even with a cheap/basic setup you can get professional results
Haha I know what you mean, I'm going to do some speakers in the future and try my hand at veneering them. Not looking forward to it, but it'll be a good skill to have.
