Well to comfortably play a role of a Scumbag, like his Scumbag Dad character, you need to understand what makes you a scumbag pretty well and once you know that it's easy to not become one.
He was on a podcast you can find on youtube. It was breakout creator episode 002, he’s a super cool, down to Earth, and interesting guy. He’s had a crazy life and the podcast episode gives lots of insight on him as a person. He talks a lot deeper about the truth of kindness content in the podcast
As a disabled person, thank you. A lot of us are actually really self conscious of our image and it helps to have control over it, you know? Not suddenly being in a viral video with our faces and mobility aids in full veiw
But we're SOOOO INSPIRING just by existing....🤦🏻♂️ I'm with you I ain't tryna be singled out, I already know I'm fly when I'm rolling around in my wheelchair lol
@@2Slow2Gaf Ha ha aww shucks, thanks. Which reminds me of the informational/educational opportunity to say that with a spinal cord injury my sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems wires are all crossed so my bodies thermoregulation is out of whack and I'm also literally cool with an average body temperature of 97.1 when I'm indoors. 😂🤣😂
This was the whole point of Jameela Jamil's character from the Good Place. Does all the good you did truly matter if it all came from a place of selfishness and the desire for attention? The fact that we are seeing this happening in real-time and people falling for it feels truly dystopian.
@@beanieweenow5244 charity in general can be the same, and it existed before this type of content. the show is inspired by these kinds of people, donating/helping out of selfishness. most rich people are like that rn.
You're literally the person we need and deserve on the internet because you make stupid shit parodying people like this while calling them out. You're not doing this to scam people, you're not out here trying to get peoples money because you already do that in your normal ass job. You actually help more people than these fake influencers do with your comedic takes because unlike them you actually don't have 90% of your views being bought and paid for to go viral, you go viral because you're hilarious. You're the hero we need and honestly it's sad that we don't get to see more people like you who actually don't pretend to be kind people whenever there's a camera around.
It's such a shame how audiences can be blinded by the 4th wall so easily. Also, it's ironic how comedians such as yourself happen to be the only creators I see who actually give serious messages like this every once in a while. Eg. Lewis Spears, FriendlyJordies, Charles Ross, they all at some point have put on their serious face for disclaimers and underlying issues. Anyways, thanks ScubagDad for trying your best to educate the latest generation despite them despite it not working. My eye is even keener now because of this.
Well said, SD! We need more people to be aware of this kind of stuff because it is ultimately the viewers that enable this kind of behavior. It's a plague for too many platforms.
I had no idea. Seriously. But this is how our society works nowadays. Unfortunately. And because of the massive invasion of social media in our lives you can't tell which one is true or fake. Thank you for your videos. 👍
I appreciate your voice of criticism. I love that we can have nuanced discussions on these trends, thanks for being a spearhead of that. My opinion is filming someone without their consent unless illegal is not nearly as unethical as some other kindness content creators have acted. It may or may not be illegal.
Knew there's something fishy about that guy ever since I watched more and more videos of him, it's really sad how everything "kindness" in internet is just them taking advantage of people in need
I agree 100% that these kindness influencers should at least ask permission to post the videos. I think the hidden camera is ok but they should ask the person after if they are willing to let the video be posted and delete it if they want it to be deleted.
That last sentence right there- like a home run hitter making contact with the baseball- just the sound of that hammer hitting the nail directly on the head 😚👌🏼
It’s so true and what is more astonishing is people don’t care if those “kindness” are fake. They will continue to watch and support those immoral content creators
You're the man. Thanks for your great videos, both comic and serious. Also wanna say I respect you for saying your bit and then also realizing when there's a point that you're done with it. Cheers
It is a sad state of affairs. Having said that, I pray for these people to get out of their desperate situations. I would never want anyone to get into such a low point where even accepting money from a kindness influencer seems like a relief.
Man I used to think some of those videos were fake and sometimes cringe a bit at the music and that they felt “overly sweet” but I never really realized the root of the problem. Makes me feel like a bit of an idiot but at least I know now. It’s good you’re bringing awareness to this stuff and hopefully people will stop giving those videos as much attention and maybe try to speak out against them as well.
there are hundreds of millions of people out there who are uncritically consuming this garbage because they want to feel validated about their worldview. they see kindness content and think "ah, this guy is being nice, my faith in humanity is restored" and they don't need to confront the realities about the world. that people are suffering and no one is stepping in to help unless there's some kind of financial incentive.
And my point is: how is pointing that out more helpful than the people making the kindness content? Yes, they're exploiting people for content to make money but they are actually doing something to help at least. Talking about how it's exploiting people doesn't actually help those people.
Ok lets say jimmy darts and similar people are actually just wanting to get money from this. Even if that was true they ARE helping people in their lowest times. Plus does anybody have any proof that he doesnt ask for permission to publish the video?
I understand your point and exhaustion on this point but afaik you are the at least well known if not only source on the critical standpoint of those kind of content creators. So PLEASE NEVER STOP PREACHING. Love and respect to you and your family
I appreciate this, earlier this week I unfortunately got trapped in a short-form content loop and was seeing a lot of these. Something felt hollow about them but I couldn't put my finger on it.
If you want to be truly kind. Donate to a clothing locker/ food pantry. Most churches or goodwill will happily take your donations and don't generally explore those who are in need for clout. Pay attention to the charities that you donate to. Some aren't as noble as others so it's important to research what happens to your donation. If you can't donate, volunteer. Don't let politics and social pressure get in the way either. Many people I've known would never get near church even if they are in the best position to get your donation to the right people. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Suck up your pride and do what works. Also, don't worry if ur not in a position to donate. You have to help yourself before you can help others.
The widespread blind & dumb acceptance to this stuff, and the exploitative, sick & clout chasing content that has shown itself in the past few years online more particularly really sucks.. I wish that there was more actual analysis of it because it's festered in many corners of the internet / TikTok. Thank you for raising awareness and discussion on this kind of thing, I don't see that too often done in a fully serious way
I'm absolutely sure that these "kindness" content creators probably boost their own egos with the belief that they are doing only good, not considering that they truly are taking advantage of people at their lowest point. Some words to live by: If you are ready to give, do it with the expectation that there will be nothing to gain.
For what its worth, thank you for doing the videos up until now. Youve been able to put into words that icky feeling of content creators manipulating people for gain.
One time I was walking in the city with my mother on the way to a concert and these two random dudes came up and started cheering us on or whatever, giving kind words but if I had to guess it was for this content because the of way they acted. It’s not like I’ll ever find the video, but I just remember the awkwardness of these two random dudes coming up to us and giving us high fives and telling us to smile and have a good day. Because a lot of times people don’t just do that on their own.
Sir you are a beacon of morality and one of the only things keeping me from losing all faith in RU-vid as a whole. Thank you so much for not only being a silly funny fella, but for actively keeping people aware of how awful these things are. I wish to be as analytical as you one day and be able to cut through the bullshit with as much ease. Hope you're having a great day hey do you mind moving your car real quick? are ya having a good day? first 10 people to stand in a bukake circle and say nothing get $1000000000000000
I really appreciate the work you're doing and almost consider it a social service to the community. Airing these people out will at least hopefully slow the momentum for this dehumanzing trend.
I think the biggest thing is that it’s been shown several times that you can give money and food and stuff to people in need without doing this shit the “kindness content” people are doing. Mr. Beast is probably the best example of this. And even when Mr. Beast does use video of people in need, he doesn’t just pocket the money.
Yeah, they're lying, even for a good purpose, it's not good. There are two guys, who stay true all the time - one is praying in the name of the Lord Jesus, and another helping homeless people - "the hug or a handshake" guy.
I remember coming across one of this guy's video and i instantly marked it as 'dont recommend channel' , It really sucks how much the algorithm promotes content like this as well, and it's only going to increase...
Yeah, I hate being put online and being filmed. Generally assumed most of those people at least had a visible camera, but a hidden camera feels so much worse to me.
People tag you because we like and trust your opinion. We genuinely find you too be a source of wisdom and truth. You really kind of are the internet's Dad.
I always had a problem when someone go on fb or ig live and give do a "good deed" for a homeless person. Like do it out the kindness of your heart, not for gratitude on the internet
YES! I keep bumping into kindness stuff and I want to speak up about it but I always get the conflict of 'But- technically they did help someone- and the comments are all about love and such'. It feels weird, because it's basically low scale Mr.Beast content but with Mr.Beast I can kinda wave it off a little bit because the people are fully aware of them being filmed and it's usually on a larger scale. (Although, I still don't really like Mr.Beasts stuff, but I'm not morally super opposed to it.)
for the parking lot one i you talked about they try to find the most pathethic lives to help them, isent that good still? like they are helping people in need yea their doing it for content but the more desprate or bad situtation the person is in the more they need it
I think you should do even longer form contact like 10-15 minutes. I saw the interviews you did and I think those were your best work so far but that’s just me.
I think the worst part about them is the amount of people that buy into it I really can’t tell how many people commenting on those types of videos are bots or if they’re straight up just extremely naive people it’s insane that people DONATE to those people they’re PROFITING off theirs viewers that think they’re helping people!!!!
I guess the only kindness content I believe in is that one dude who buys their food/sales for 1000 dollars and gives the food for free. It helps them have free market and have great sales in that one time he did
The idea of people minding their own business in public only for them to be recorded without their knowledge and consent is ridiculous enough... but then to be posted online for millions of random strangers to see is about as dystopian as it gets. Thanks for confronting people like this!
… I live in Chicago. I was at a gas station. A guy literally came up to me and asked for a dollar for bus fair. Since (I only have cash app) he said that was okay. Then we gave me his girlfriends cash app! Then literally someone with a grey hoodie was slowly walking towards me with a the camera on the whole time… then that was it. It ended. The guy walked off and then screamed a lady’s name (as if he was controlling her? Not sure) anyways. If that was kindness content some of these people really need to get their stuff together.
in germany those content "creators" habe it tough its illegal to film anyone without the person agreeing first (unless its a public figure) things like "its a public space, so i can film you" dont work in germany even if iam in a background in a video for a fraction of a second i can sue you and things like "i ask the manager of a super market and then its ok" no its not.. the manager cant give consent in the name of the costumers
Thank God there are sending people like you There's so many of these titles of 'trends' and people are deemed into it not even understanding why they do it
