After three years of being extremely familiar with this truck, I am happy to report that it is finally at least kinda ok. Alright, it’s really awesome, it’s just like the automotive equivalent of Whack-a-mole. Things can’t just be perfect or stay fixed. Which brings me to an important point about classic stuff - I don’t care how much time or money or newfangled stuff you put into a classic, it’s still a classic - and it’s probably going to have classic problems. And really the newfangled stuff might be the problem…

That Bumper from Blue Lake Offroad. Very good choice. I have one of their rear bumpers on my 04 GMC which recently withstood a pretty rough overlanding experience in the Idaho Deserts. I love your truck and wish I could afford it. Regards from Ody Slim.... BTW I subbed about 6 months ago and am trying to watch your older videos now. all The Best!!

Thank you! I appreciate it! This awesome crew cab isn’t mine - and after being in my care for three years after it was finished, it has finally gone to its’ owner’s new place in Arizona.

Great truck nice use of modern side mirrors,, a carb is better than that fake tbi! it's a truck gas mileage is not important! chrome needs to be blasted and self etching primer with a 2k top coat if you want any hope of it lasting. it's a perfect truck the way you have it now you could give me 10 2022 new Ram trucks and I would sell them all and keep this truck!.... and use some of the money to buy it a carb and mopar on!

The funny thing is it really ran great with the Edelbrock carb we broke the engine in with. But this is what the owner wanted. I know - I love it. Personally I want diesel power in a 3/4 ton crew cab work truck. My trucks basically live with a trailer behind them. Mileage, torque, diesel sounds… yep. But is sure fun with the big block.

It is supposed to have a door "spring" . fun fact the passenger and drivers hinges are the same just invert one.

I thought it was just missing the door check spring too… but then I realized tons and tons of these trucks just don’t have them on the driver door. Did they all fall off? Or were the never there? Of the three tin grilles at my house currently, only one has it - my ‘73 club cab W100. Hah. I didn’t know that. But it makes sense… because Chrysler. I’m pretty sure it’s the same door hinge that at least B body uses. They use the same hood hinge assemblies as some B bodies so it would make sense.

@@DeadDodgeGarage I think they just fatigue fail on driver side. I think they are used on a car just no idea which one. I just make sure to collect every passenger side one I find. Very nice truck btw.

I think the 12 valve and stick shift would make that truck so awesome, I really want one of those crew cabs

I'm glad, and thank god you didn't put a stupid cummins in it. BTW, great truck!

I don’t know, a 12 valve makes these things into awesome workhorses that are actually usable with almost double the fuel economy… but the big block is pretty great. Haha.

@@DeadDodgeGarage You are right. But, you can buy a "workhorse today from a new or used lot and not wreck what is a classic truck. And with diesel being .70-.75 cents more a gallon is that a savings when you consider your conversion cost. I agree with you, but to convert to a cummins is such a trend for the last 10 years and I hate to see old trucks and cars turned into something that they weren't meant for. Maybe I'll buy a 1968 mustang fb and put an electric motor in it. But it comes down to what each person wants. I'm not trying to be argumentative; I just have a different point of view. Thanks for the response and video.

@@fiendish67 I agree, and I don't mean to be a dick either. Everybody does it and it's definitely overplayed. I totally get that, and usually I'm the "leave it alone" guy. But I'll make one more point - these trucks were meant to be trucks. They were meant to work. They weren't made to win car shows... the cab of this truck is a different length from side to side. Dodge was so broke and lazy, the trucks that got Cummins engines in '89 were almost exactly the same truck as these 70s units (albeit not in a crew cab by then, because they discontinued them for almost twenty years for no good reason.) I just love the Cummins engine, and I love what it can do. And as far as diesel prices... I just bought a Toyota Corolla because $30 of diesel a day was absolutely killing me. So you've absolutely got a great point there in today's world. It used to make a lot more sense.
