Tl;Dr: It's not the Quickshifter itself, it's the clutch sensor. I just stumbled across this video and of course I clicked through the video from before. Had the same issue with my '21Tuono 660 - twice, so far. First time my dealer extended the warranty a bit (love him) and changed the little clutch sensor on the left bars bottom side on the lever. Second time I figured it out myself (started with orange flashing ⚙ and a lot of red R): the sensorscrew thread is stuck through a hole in the levers bottom side. If it's nuts loose or gone this makes the bike think 'oh, clutch is pulled' when it's not the case. If you're combining this with "quickshifting" the gearbox gets a lot of love from your foot since there will be no ignition interruption because the bike still thinks it's clutch is pulled. Maybe your dealer figured it out himself and just wanted to keep the secret (or didn't even realized the coincidence and changed/fixed it too) since the sensor is something around 50-60 or repaired in no time VS 200ish for the Quickshifter + Flashing + Installationtime. If the mighty red R comes back: check your clutch sensor 🧐 Ride safe! 🤙 €dit: Also left a sub just in case, since I realized you're the CRT guy I just watched a few minutes ago admiring that roary sound! 🤌
It’s like they don’t care to engineer any bulletproof reliability into these bikes, reliability is like last on their list. Idc if it’ll be 10lbs heavier make it reliable.
Glad to hear you got it squared away somewhat. You might be on to something with the temperature thought. It happened to me on a cold day as well, riding in close to 40 degrees temps. Keep us posted on the issue.
ECU’s can throw false error codes. Especially on Italian bikes. Treat it like the computer it is and simply start, run 3-5 seconds and stop. Wait the same time and repeat the process 3-5 times. You will find in some occasions the error code goes away. It often makes me think back to the days when bikes were carbureted. So simple and rewarding when new and maintained.
I dont even understand how or why these things happen. Electronics were a technological advancement but i absolutely abhor alot of them. Most of my bikes problems are electrical than mechanical. And i cant fix them easily.
@SK XIII there was a time where i could listen to the sound of the piston in the engine and tell if the issue is within the engjne casing or carburettor fuel mixture and etc etc. Now its like you take the entire bike apart and find no mechanical faults but one goddamm fuse the size of a penny was the cause of every problem
Sorry to hear you are having issues with your quick shift. I have the rs660, got it at end of March 2021, haven't had any issues. Where I live, it's much colder than where you live :) I've taken it out in 45-50 degrees, and no problem. Hope you get things worked out. Maybe have the dealer take a look at it.
@@SK_XIII You still could be correct in the temperature theory. I had a radio in my old Volkswagen, that only played when the temperatures became warm enough. So, for you it may be a wire connection issue, or fuse. Just a guess on my part. Did you call Aprilia Dealer? I haven't changed my rs660 at all, everything is stock. I do ride it like I stole it, that's what the service guy at Aprilia recommended :) So, far solid.
@@BillyBob-qu3kc Haha true true. I haven't taken it to the dealer yet. It has been raining non-stop here so haven't taken it out in quite a bit. If it keeps happening I'll probably get it checked out. Riding like you stole it...only way to do it to enjoy it mate :D
Idk about you guys, but I think it's about time that some of the major motorcycle companies like KTM, Ducati, Aprilia (to name a few) should get new electronic and software engineers. The three mentioned seem to be amongst the ones that have constant electronical and software issues. Reliability needs to be sorted, especially when forking out hefty cash for these machines.
I hear ya mate! at the same time, new tech is bound to have issues, especially since they are trying to constantly improve it. Better engineers wouldn't hurt though 🤣
Glad to hear it's at least somewhat resolved fam. Hope it stays that way, but definitely keep us updated. I do have a question though: Did you ever actually switch to GP? I never did on my 660, and they weren't real clear on if it was a software switch or physically reversing the quick shifter arm. I know they had to software update even on the stars and stripes model, so i wonder if its not an ecu/flashing issue. I still ride in like 25-degree weather on mine, and I've not had that issue myself. Anyhow, stay safe my guy, you got to come ride out here in southern Utah, we got some great roads to hit up.
Utah I have heard got the good mount roads! :D But nah I have never had gp shift on the bike. I think they have to do a specific software update to get gp shift
@SK_XIII Yes, we most definitely do. I live at the edge of route 12, Bryce, Red Canyon, Dixie and couple other Brilliant riding here, well worth it if you can get there. Hells backbone is definitely worth a trip as well.
I own the Stars and Stripe version. I had the same issue multiple times this summer. I live in Louisiana, and this past summer was 100°+ almost every day. So I don't believe that temperature is the issue. My issue, like yours, resolved itself on its own after a lengthy wait in riding. I also took apart the quick shifter and noticed there was oil on it (from the infamous weep hole water pump leak). I dried off the metal contact that the shifter connecting rod moves and nothing since, but I'm doubting that this was a fix for the issue. I think it's just Aprilia cutting corners in the program software.
Hey Mate, I wanted to ask you a question about the suspension…?? Did u change anything in the suspension rebound or preload setup..?? I am thinking to adjust mine..!! When I ride my Aprilia it scares me when using the front brake around corners with high speed, I have the RS 660 Extrema 2023, it is brand new but I am not sure if this is normal….
@@SK_XIII Hey Mate, The suspension were soft; on high speed the bike was unstable on twisties or when braking and doesn’t give me the confidence to ride fast. Anyway, I talked to my dealer and they adjusted them for me to be more sportier. Now, the bike is a different animal with this small adjustment, it is so much stable and sharp. I am faster now with this new setup, the bike handle very well and feels more planted. If you have not done so, I would advise you to go your dealer, or if you are not far from Dave Moss then this guy is insane. Your bike will be something else…trust me😉
@SK_XIII would you still recommend to buy the rs660? Im also considering the z900 but I would prefer the rs660 by far but Im not sure with the reliability
@@ll.7927 From what I have been seeing, newer bikes have had some issues as well, but the majority have been issue free. 2023 models with the new paint I feel would be the true test. Dealer being an hour away, I'd still buy the RS 660 👌
Hey I own the Tuono 660 Factory, GP shift, UPMap, no exhaust yet. I have a hypothesis, I noticed majority of the maps are set for GP Shift, I mean the ECU is supposed to pick up whether if it's GP or standard shift after the flash; doing the clutch - shifting up to 2nd gear. I'm wondering if it's somehow resetting your parameters in that sense... Do you quickshift 1st to 2nd? (I always clutch 1st to 2nd).
I usually clutch up from 1st to 2nd, but I have used QS sometimes from 1st to 2nd too without issue. Are you running the standard race tune with the UpMap?
@@SK_XIII I see, it was just a theory. I've been on gp-shift since day 1 and had not any issues with the shifter orientation. And yes, I'm currently running the standard race map, I couldn't stand the euro 5 deadspot in the midrange of the RPMs.
Ya the first to second shift thing. I find that it doesn't like quick shift from first to second. Doing some roll-on races and drag races I found it is not happy. It may be that there is so much torque going on in the transmission. Now I don't use the quick shifter until second to third.
Hey SK, love your rs660 vids, I appreciate your work… it’s my next bike, so I’m living vicariously through your trials and tribulations until I can pull the trigger and purchase one.. Quick question, I see the brake-lever guard bar end, but is there a reason there isn’t one guarding your clutch lever on the other side? I’ve seen this ‘style’ in high-end bikes before, but I’m wondering what the rationale is, etc…. Thanks again for the vids, and thx in advance for your time!
Appreciate the support brotha! Where are ya located? Good question! I did it for looks to be honest. BUT the theory behind it is that when you are racing a bike on the track and you are coming close to other riders/bikes, it guard lever on the brake side is the prevent them from accidentally hitting your brake during mid-turn. Hope that explanation makes sense 😅
@@SK_XIII - Ahh ok, that makes total sense; clutch-lever contact wouldn’t be as potentially catastrophic… it does look bad-ass, I’ll give ya that… I’m in cold-and-gray Detroit… still riding though, unless there is snow/ice on the ground Needless to say, your sunny riding vids are a treat these days, ha Stay safe!
@@SK_XIII it's a really fun bike to ride and maneuver but I find it underwhelming. It's definitely more comfortable than any other sport bike I've owned being that I'm 6'2" and the seating position isn't as aggressive. I just feel like I had a lot more fun on pretty much all my other bikes. I've owned Suzuki, Yamaha and Honda sport bikes.
@@grahambillions Ahh yeah you're a pretty tall guy so egos would be different for you. But damn, sad to hear regardless. What are you thinking about getting next?
@@SK_XIII not sure to be honest. Thinking about hanging up riding in general. I have a dirt bike to play on. Exploring the possibility of buying a jet ski. If I did grab another sport bike it would probably be an R1 or CBR1000RR.
Hey brother! I’m deciding whether i should go for CRT or not, and really wanna hear it in person. Would it be possible if we go for a ride together? Seem like we live in same area.
You are not using your quickshifter correctly, it's not made to take the place of your clutch, most should not b used between 1st and 2nd because they have trouble going past neutral, u should only use it from 2nd up and only while at full throttle or close to it,
It’s not a part of owning a Aprilia. If I was you I would let it fix by the dealer, then you would at least know what the problem was. Stop.being shaky about the warranty, its your bike you do with it as you please. The issue could be really easy to fix, why ruing your experience with this?
@@SK_XIII it's a plastic helmet, no other layers to it, if you wanna stick with AGV dont buy anything apart of the K6/Pista But i wouldn't recommend AGV overrated trash as far as safety goes, look to get an Arai.
@@SK_XIII most helmets are DOT and ECE rated, problem is that the shell itself is made out of cheapest material possible, passing those tests barely isn't a grand success, you have $50 dollars helmets which pass ECE with ease in Europe. I speak from experience and I'd not ride with anything but an Arai myself but shoei is a good alternative if you don't really fit an Arai.
Whats weird is all the bike manufacturers use the same handful of OEM electronics but the euro bikes still seem to be more likely to have bad electronics makes no sense. If you ever owned a euro car you know they also have this problem.
