TreeStuffdotcom great video and well informative. I have a upcoming job that the costumer wanted 3 spruce topped. I informed what the side effects are and also that I just wont top trees. I suggested bringing up the base so they can mow under and to also thin out the tree to allow light and wind to pass. There main concern was that the trees will fall on the house but they are completely healthy. How much should I take out without causing harm and still maintaining its shape. They literally look like perfect Christmas tress and have no spaces in between like a fir would look after being thinned. Thanks!

Hi Lindsey, I've heard commercial pruning sealers do more damage than good. Is that true? I'll be doing a branch reduction on a Burr Oak in Indiana next month. The wounds will be about 3 to 4 inches. Thanks for any help.

How do I perform a reduction cut on the trunk where branches are thin? I inherited trees from the previous owner, and I am not looking to replace them right now. Tree: Coastal live oak Goal: reduction cut to remove tallest 1/4th - 1/3rd branch/trunk. Issue: Branch thickness is too small compared to trunk thickness. Same issue with a couple of other branches. It is my understanding that when performing a reduction cut, the smaller limb should have at least 1/3rd the thickness of the limb you are going to cut. My concern is if I cut a thick branch/trunk, a smaller limb might not become a leader from the cut area, and instead, shoots will grow from the cut. How do I handle this?
