We all know the prestige Indians attach to government jobs. Not only IAS and IPS, even low-ranking government jobs are highly coveted by Indians. How is it that even 30 years after liberalization the Indian youth still prefers the government sector over the private sector? We discuss the reasons behind this obsession which is more complicated than you might think. But even more importantly, we dissect the consequences of this fascination Indians have with government jobs, and show that it's not only harmful for the aspirants, but for the country as well. Wondering how? Watch the video to find out.

My husband is in police department. Comman man considers police equals to corruption but this is not in most of the cases... his job is literally 24×7. Ppl celebrate festivals with their family but policeman never ever be with their families at festive times. Irony is his own family members think sarkari naukri means "Kuber Ka Khazana". Most depressed job is of police.

A few lines of my favourite poem by Robert Frost: "Two roads diverged in the woods, And I took the one less travelled by. And that has made all the difference." Learning a skill is very important in today's world. After 12th, I used to give home tutions then worked in a travel agency for only 3k per month. Then after graduation I learnt a new skill, studied for it and started working as a freelancer in a EduTech company and used to earn upto 30k. Now cleared a SSC examination and I'm going to join one of the government ministries as a Level 7 Officer, a position that requires the same skill. So, my suggestion to the aspirants is that you take the road less travelled by.

I belong to a middle class family where a govt job is given much respect than any other private job. The problem is,we people of small towns don't understand that there are much better carrer opportunities other than a govt job also. But someone needs to educate to these people other options available for getting an employment without having to spend much.

I’m based off the United States, and my father is a neurologist here. A person and his family came to visit California from the subcontinent when they also stopped by our house. Without understanding that “government job” mentality ceases to exist outside the subcontinent, he asked if my dad’s job is “Sarkari.” We just looked at each other as some of us didn’t know what to say or didn’t understand what Sarkari is. Just an average American general physician earns $2,60,000 USD a year and no matter what kind of job he/she has, the employer is legally required to pay him/her social security (pension) benefits and medical/dental insurance. Most employers also offer 401K benefits for retirement along with stock options, so when selecting jobs in the USA, we don’t look if it is Sarkari or not, because why should we care about that as all employers have same benefits and regulations but who has the better offer in terms of work hours and pay. I then did my research on why he had that weird question, and I came across these facts from the subcontinent that what a normal job is in the USA is the dream for people outside of it. The employment sector seems so underdeveloped that governments have become a God instead of an employer, which explains the status quo behind getting these jobs. This is unfair for such amazing candidates who probably have so much better to contribute to the society than delivering messages in between two police stations. As an American, I am taught to maximize and capitalize on every situation when I have the skills to offer for it, and I do trust in the roaring future of India and the subcontinent whereby PhD holders will get the due for their skills and participate in the development of their nation.

Not really. He needs to end the video more maturely. You can look at his conclusion. He first blames the government for not creating private sector jobs without specifying what the government needs to do. Then he says that people need quality jobs. Tell me any country which has this? Not even the US has this. Then he wants people to respect jobs for other people. This is something that a kid would say. Blaming the government for everything was a trend in India which started back in the 1980s and continues till date. It's high time people have better and clear demands from the government rather than pushing their entire failure on the government. Do you want low taxes on business especially the msme then specify what a msme should be and what should be the tax rate.

As an employee in both Private sector and now in Public sector, I can confirm that the main problem in Private sector is Work Pressure from upper level (so called Bosses)... In Public sector there is also ample pressure and now a days staff shortages in every department but still the We try (n.b. try to) to follow the factories act, 1948 i.e. 8 hours of work per day, but in Private if you're a new joinee software developer then the upper management will squeeze your last drop of sweat (HR will do nothing, as many others are in queue, if you don't like it then leave it). But if you look at western countries, there is no fascination for public sector jobs, as private employees get reminder from HR/Management to not to take stress.... If we/our nations private big players take this matter seriously, I think 99.9% of job seeker will go for Pvt. Jobs.... Because, a job seeker gets demotivated by hearing "private sector mein bohot pressure hain" by private job holders, as they are facing the same issues.

@Dave_en Год назад
@@shubham_M7777 both have pros and cons. You cant exactly compare both. But still the worst kinds of jobs are from local private companies. Neither their compensation nor job stability can match to that of Govt jobs. If you work in MNCs then its best but during recession they may cut the workforce. But in govt jobs, you get sufficient money, benefits and limited promotions. Its about what you want in life. Either enormous money and promotions, go to MNCs and keep working hard, change companies. Or you want stable income and recession proof job, go for govt one. But everywhere you have to give your best, otherwise you will be out of job market. If you think that taking bribe is ok, then surely one day you may get caught. Govt has strictly implemented zero tolerance policy. You can be in trouble in just one complaint, though it depends on whether you actually did it or it was a false allegation. If proven guilty, there are serious consequences including confiscation of all your wealth and retirement benefits.

Thanks Mohak for making a video on such an important unspoken issue. I completely agree with the video. I myself know of few people who have wasted a lot of time in preparing for government exams. I feel that government should do something about it and remove the easiness part in the job. The mentality of government employees or govt jobs aspirants is that they just want to have it easy and earn money. That needs to change. Govt should also create a culture where the employee has regular performance review cycles, performance discussions, etc. There should be a feedback mechanism. Non performing employees should be fired and new people should be hired in their place. Once people realize that working for the government also requires hard work, time, and energy, they will stop spending so many years of their youth to prepare for the jobs. Probably they will give 1-2 attempts and then move on if unsuccessful.

There are pros and cons of both private and government jobs. Choose a career that you'll love to be part of it. Choose something that'll make you wake up every morning without an alarm, without forcing yourself. If you find something like that, you'll no longer need to do any sacrifices. Not only that, I completed my graduation in 2018, and started prepping for govt job on July 2018, I began cracking exams by July 2019, and now I am selected for 2 jobs one under the central govt and the other under the state, and in these 4years of my experience I can say that, 1. The competition on paper may seem high, but only a tiny percentage of aspirants come well-prepped. 2. Many students come into this field without any backup plan, they somehow think they'll come and beat all the rest and get the job. 3. Corruption and mismanagement of govt. there are so many vacancies in banks, railways, and other public service sectors but they work with less than half their full strength. 4. The long process of recruitment. Except for the UPSC, all other recruitment bodies on average take 1.5-2 years to complete the exam process i.e. tier 1, tier 2, typing/interview. 5. Lack of skill building, as you said, traditional learning tactics often fail us in the private sector as well as in the govt exam sector, I have seen people study from dawn to dusk, with no success, whereas I personally never studied that hard, I followed some tutors online(mainly YT) and solved mock paper, and analyzed previous year questions during my preparation, and I never studied for more than 3 exams at a time, I have seen people give every exam in a season, with each having very different syllabus. This hinders the preparation for all. I hope it helps anyone, who'll read. Keep hustling men. ❤️

Job security is not a question when you have relevant skillsets. Many private job employees are taking early retirement in there 40-50 and investing their money to enjoy the rest of the life with peace of mind as well.
