The drive to Cienfuegos in the old Chevrolet was nerve-racking. The car had no seatbelts and the driver was either hollering at passers -by out the window or counting money and controlling the wheel with his knees. When I arrived, I randomly met Mamita in a dentists and stayed at her house. She showed me around her old neighborhood 'centro historico' and i bought rum from her dodgy neighbour. I forget what happened after that.
That’s not a 69 .. definitely a 1950s. The 60’s era of Chevy where much longer with long lines like the impala, caprice or more muscle cars like the Camero or Chevelle, corvette. If I had to guess the car you rode in was a Deluxe, which stopped production in 1952
Loved that you gave a cigar to the abuelito on the street. Respect for and generosity towards elders was and still is integral in Cuban culture. Thank you.
I'm going to Cuba in one month and this is so helpful. Thank you. You made me stay up until 3am. Keep up the amazing work and great content lad. Best wishes from 🇧🇦
Just going around an unknown street with a glass of rum in your hand, meeting new people then going back to get the bottle and drinking more. Your videos at this point makes me wish it were longer hahah.. and that I think is an achievement for you my friend!! Waiting for the next one.. xx
i was completely smashed after drinking that bottle, i remember really struggling to find my way back when it was dark! i was running around trying to find the right way :)
Another wild one man. Always so cool to see different countries’/cultures’ takes on safety and normalcy. Awesome to see you diving in headfirst with confidence!
+me gusto mucho el video , por lo rápido que conectaste con la gente de pueblo , asi debe ser todos los turistas para empoderar a ese pueblo de a pie , gracias
Good fun video, Dan. You have done it now by car, but I always use the ViaZul inter city bus from city to city, cheap as chips and always runs to time. Proof here that the locals will always help you out, nice little casa particular and then you go and mix.I did not know you could buy local rum, and pick up local cigars so cheap. Bet they are as good as a named brands that will set you back 20 euros/quid/dollars. Looking forward to other exploits.....
Love the Barbie bathroom you got! It's awesome how you appreciate every little positive thing! That's the best way to travel, stay curious and spread the joy. Have you done Puerto Rico already? It is going through so much hardship after 3 hurricanes and all that corruption.
I find joy from most things, even if things don't go my way in life. No puerto rico yet, but i plan on going to almost all the countries in the world, so let's see what the future holds!
ok, Dan, another video from Cuba, this time Cienfuegos, was not able to travel to there, ..love your videos.........I see , you are in mexico city, yet to look at it.......Travel safely, my brother
cheers matey! Very adventurous and constantly getting lost! They're very enjoyable to make :) thanks for commenting on it, really helps my channel grow :)
Took a taxi outta there with some Italians to Bay of Pigs, stayed overnight, went to the museum. But That's where I got stuck - no bus for hours! Don't believe the bus schedules there.
This is as close to going back to Cuba as I’m prepared to go. I was there 2009. Solo female traveller. I’m an intrepid soul but Cuba had me in tears.India was much easier and I return there annually. Good Vlog job. Thx
Hello, youtube suggested your video to me, It is true that a trip in a Chevrolet to Cienfuegos when you go with more passengers is distressing. The rum you bought is not one of the most exquisite or refined, that's why you ended up not remembering anything. But better that before buying the green label bottle that is much stronger and it is not usual to take it alone. I hope you have taken good experiences from my country I am from Havana
I'm happy you watched my video :) Muchas gracias por tenerme en tu pais! Next time I come i won't drink the same rum, i will drink the green label one. You're English is very good!! i hope you enjoy my other videos :)
@@whereisdan I'm sorry but to be able to write in English I used google translator. I can understand English, but it is difficult for me to speak it and more difficult to write it. You have a new subscriber.
Yeah, seatbelts did not become standard equipment in American cars until 1964. So unless someone had them installed after the fact, the 1950's American cars in Cuba will not have them. As a child I remember my dad's 1960 Buick did not have them.
thanks a lot! i'm a solo traveler mostly, i try and meet people on my journey. Sometimes i'll travel with a friend to make the videos a little different.
El combustible está muy caro comparado con el de Inglaterra. Otro detalle el aceite que dice el chofer no es barato ya que lo cogió 100 veces más caro que su valor real
Camillo Cienfuegos did not fight Batista. He fought the Spanish. Fidel Castro fought Batista. Happy new year Dan. 🎉🍻🍻🥂 Looks like you are having the time of your life.
But the city is not called cienfuegos because of Camilo ,it is called like that cause of a general captain from spain 200 years ago surnamed cienfuegos who allowed some french inmigrans to create this village.
@@rafaelpino4176 My mother told me that the city got its another way: in its early days, it was surrounded by sugarcane plantations, which they would burn just before harvesting (creating "a hundred fires") in order to drive out the snakes, and to burn off the sharp, serrated leaves. A quaint story but probably is not true. But whatever the truth is, it certainly has nothing to do with the 1959 revolution.
@@whereisdan Is the poors rum.. It is a kind of artisan rum... it is obtained from the so-called reverberant alcohol, manufactured exclusively for industrial use. It's the closest thing to drinking gasoline recreationally...
Im shocked you spend the money to take a old taxi, you seem to anyways try to squeeze a free ride. Im sure you played the "influencer" card on the poor driver.. cheap Brits seem to always show their colors . You seem to rarely talk about the costs of some things. .. very strange
