This is a follow up to my previous video highlighting the first items to break on the Basecamp 20X. Did Camping World really address them in under four days? Facebook Basecamp Owners Group Link: lookaside.fbsb...
Great video, exactly what I was looking for. Starting to think that Airstream should stick to their traidtional travel trailers, No Basecamps, Vans, etc. Kinda been a big miss in my opinion. But I would like to see if they are actually addressing these issues, in design, quality, and function, with each passing model year. Glass doors, who was the engineer that thought that was a good idea?
Thanks for your videos! I put an order in for a Basecamp 20X about 5 weeks ago and expect delivery sometime in November. It looks like there are some quality control issues at Airstream that I hope are resolved. I hope they see your videos and act accordingly to keep up the quality standards they're known for.
Basecamp Definitely needs an aftermarket parts company. I'm shocked Xtreme terrain, or other automotive aftermarket suppliers haven't addressed this. Basecamp definitely seems like a long term product line now. From what I understand it's one of the highest selling models now. The first Basecamp was a great product minus the rear hatch.
Just wondering if you’ve had time to get into the charge controller yet and set up a solar generator to run the Basecamps power needs? I take delivery of my 20x next week at Airstream of Las Vegas and was considering connecting my Bluetti AC200 internally to power the 20x with that, like being connected to shore power while boon-docking. Using the Zamp connector and splitting off of that to charge both the Bluetti and the 20x batteries. I’ve set up a portable 1kw solar array to use and was looking forward to your mentioned upcoming video surrounding this topic. And thanks for the info on your findings to help us when taking delivery of our 20x.🍺😎👍 Cheers!
The short answer is no. My setup will consist of the airstream mounted solar panels wired to the charge controller. My plan for 120V is a Renogy 2000w inverter. If I read your comment correctly, you plan on using a Bluetti in lieu of an inverter and plan on hard wiring that into the airstream electrical system. I’ve seen videos on similar set ups but they traditionally just run the 30A shore power cord with a 15A adapter to the solar generator. I’m not familiar enough with the bluetti to know if has the means to hard line. Based on the wiring diagram, the additional zamp plug is not wired into the Victron solar charge controller and requires a separate PWMor MPPT. Am I reading that correctly?
@@SlowYourRoll thanks for your quick response and input. I’m just thinking in my head now, not having seen any wire diagrams for the basecamp and trying to pick your brain a bit. My concern with powering with an external solar generator is having it outside. I was looking for a way to keep it inside the 20x and have it power it at the same time as well as bring the power from my solar array in through the Zamp external connector and charge the Bluetti. I won’t be hard wiring the Bluetti, just using the outlets on it to power the trailer. Hopefully! Thanks again 👍 Can’t wait for next week!
For the price, this Airstream needs to be perfect. I've heard too many failures of simple components (such as door hinges being made out of plastic). Sorry, this should be world class quality and durability, something that you buy and it works for years and years. Like everything else, they've cheaped out on components and kept the price sky high. You're paying for the name imo.
So I’m curious about showering in a basecamp. So can someone explain to me the pulsating shower head. So you can’t have a solid stream while showering ?
The shower head doesn’t pulsate. It has a normal flow with an on/off button to conserve water while maintaining temperature. We had to adjust the water pump to increase the water pressure.
I think you had better check the size of the cables that connect the batteries together. CALL Battleborn and talk to their tech support. The cables you have look way too small. Especially if you install an inverter!!!
Mike good eye. The cables are 6AWG and def on the smaller side. Disclaimer I’m not an electrician. Based on the distance and amperage draw of the Basecamp appliances 6AWG is sufficient to carry 120a at a distance of 6ft. Currently I’m not running anything close to 120a. However when I install the inverter I will have to install larger diameter battery cables. Renogy supplies a 4AWG cable with their inverters which I personally think is too small given a 2000w (3000w surge) capacity. I will call BB and get their advice.
The 4Runner can handle GVWR and hitch for the 16, 16X, and 20 (500lbs). If you want to tow the 20X you have to cut weight by reducing your propane capacity and batteries. In addition you won’t be able to haul as much gear which is a trade off but worth it for my camping needs. I think you’ll like the Basecamp. Just do an inventory of what you plan on bringing with you.
Thanks for the video I'm interested in purchasing this model as well ass first RV. Is it normal for the prices to be way over msrp at the dealership? Most of the msrp are 2018 model
Right now it’s a factor of supply and demand. Demand is high and supply is low. Viewers have commented wait times up to 12 months for these models. Not sure how long it will last as I’m new RVing. However, the used market may be more viable. Airstream marketplace is a good place to look.
I’m trying the Eva Dry available at most RV stores. It hangs up until the bead color indicates saturation at which point you plug it into 12V to “dry” it out and reset. It doesn’t produce water which makes it tough to see if it is working.
