Note:: *MLSS will be obtained from equation 1. And *MLVSS will be obtained from equation 2. That is mistakenly typed in the video. The MLSS is a term used to describe the concentration of the TSS (particulate matter) in the activated sludge system. The TSS can be divided into two fractions: Organic (volatile) Inorganic (fixed). In the MLVSS determination, the dired filter paper is placed in the furnace at 550°c then the volatile particles ( Organic Particles ) are completely burned off or evaporated the remaining ashes are belonged to the non- Volatile particle ( In organic particle). If we subtracte the intial weight to the Remaining ashes we get the weight of the Volatile particle. By substitute this data in your equation 2 we get the MLVSS. Then why you again substrate the eqn 2 from eqn 1. Give me the proper reason.

Conditions could be vary depending the nature of wastewater, ambient conditions, effluent quality ect. typical values are; Desirable range: MLSS around 3,000 and mg/l and SVI = 100 to 200 ml/g. This would produce a clear and good quality effluent (sludge forms a uniform blanket and capture more particles before settling). SVI = 80 ml/g or less, (rapid settling characteristics). Typically in extended aeration conditions. Effluent BOD probably reach the target, however, TSS may be higher. MLSS would be higher in such a condition (4000 mg/l). SVI = 250 ml/g or higher (usually the system is still in startup phase) would cause poor selling and poor compaction of settled sludge (filamentous sludge bulking as well). MLSS would be around 1000 mg/L.
