If that is really brought 23 years ago, it must be made all traditional way, handcraft and with really good quality of material. That should worth alot. Take care with that ;)
i just had the biggest flashback with this video. when they were making the flat shell slabs, I thought, are they going to use them as tiles? but by the end of the video, when I saw the decorated boxes, I was immediately transported to my childhood. my grandmother had a large black closet, decorated similar to the box. as a kid, I had often wondered what does shinny stuff were. i sat still 30 second, just processing that those decorative i had gazed up on turned out to be shells. amazing video.
They are all Korean mastets for traditional crafts and the products are vrry expensive like art pieces. Don't worry. You can see the zake skill only in Korea, not asia.
Absolutely incredible works of art, the dedication and hard work really shows in their creative hands..a true labor of love. Honor and Respect ty for sharing a glimpse with all of us.
Never in my life would I ever think of the the talented people behind this Art. I Thankyou all for your dedication and for showing us the process. I am motivated to support your industry by purchasing the end product of a Jewellery Box. I am so Impressed with Every person who creates these products. Such Artisans 🥰🌻❤️
Aww, I was hoping to see them create a jewelry box or wall art with the shells. This was great to see how they obtain the pieces necessary to create such wonderful art!
While stationed in Chuncheon-si ('87-'89), God blessed me with a "teacher" who patiently taught me joinery. I had done a bit of woodworking prior to that time, but that "apprenticeship" brought skills to a different level; it all started with learning how to properly sharpen chisels, then constructing small boxes, then on to larger things. He taught me some wonderful/graceful handwork, but more importantly how wood "works" and its possible potential. Nothing comes easy in S. Korea, most things required intensive "old fashion" hard work, but craftsmanship takes time (and patience), and I may never reach the level of my teacher. That tour of duty was supposed to be for one year. I extended it to 2.5 years, because of my teacher, and because of the wonderful hospitality of the Korean people; they were probably the best times of my military career.
In my culture the are called Paua (pronounced pawa) we use them in carvings our shells are alot deeper green purple blue and yellow looking colours kind of like a opal. I'm from nz for any reference. This process is so cool to watch ☺️
@@jill7717hey friend all the way from the Netherlands wow awesome kiaora (hello) from nz I have a really cool recommendation of this carver who lives in my town his RU-vid channel is Broxh you should check him out really amazing work and aura. You will understand when visiting his channel. Much aroha (love) from nz mate 🦋😊
Of course not. They don't care about the health of their workers. I was thinking the same thing when they were cutting the shell pieces without ppe. I always wear a respirator when cutting any kind of shell, especially abalone. That stuff is toxic to breathe.
Amazing, simply amazing. I could never do this job, I'd be staring at the sheets all day just in awe lol. So much beauty, I'm now off to learn how this first came about! 💙
The artwork is stunning, and the talents of the craftspeople is admirable. But I was also amazed at the difference in worker safety protocol and cleanliness of their surroundings, compared to the US.
I have my mother's mother of pearl vanity. I have a pic of her in her wedding dress sitting in front of it after her makeup was put on. love that I'll be able to pass it down to my daughter
