I know this logger is way more experienced than me! But when I process trees that have blown over and are attached to the roots, I start at the top of the tree by clearing the limbs. I then start the cuts 20” apart until I get to the trunk. I have never had a tree sprung up. It is when trees are on top of others that the approach I take depends on where tension can be. But nothing but praise for this logger as he knows the physics involved.

The ones I cut are always snagged at the top on other trees then sometimes I'll have to ruin those to get it to fall

I was thinking the same thing. I'm DIY just because I burn wood. I've processed around 100 cord, over the years.... Not being there, but looking at the video, my first thought was it would be safer to harvest this one from the top down to the pivot point. I cringed when I saw Him stretched all the way over His relief cut and one handing a deeper relief cut on the other side of the trunk.... But, like I said, I'm sure that I'm an amateur compared to this guy...
@Tony.795
@Tony.795 5 месяцев назад
@@oznetyoutube125 If the tension direction is straight up and down it's not that dangerous to do it like that, just keep your head out of the way. Twisted trees are far more dangerous. It also depends on how long the trees have been blown down. He appears to be preparing the trees for the harvester, which will process the rest of the tree. I did that for about half a year after a large storm.

Danger zone in the spring, those root balls will plop back in their holes unexpectedly.

I answered in a reply elsewhere,, but Hello, Garden and Forest. Did the logger harvest the boles that day or in the following one or two days? Or did he leave the blow downs right where they are until the thaw? I think it is brilliant of the logger. The blow down took place in the summer or fall BEFORE the freeze. The freeze safely holds all the dirt lenses, the root plates, safely and locked upright. Were it me doing it, after cutting all the boles free from their root plates, I might just walk away and come back to harvest after the thaw,,, after all the root plates had fallen back into their holes,, when,, I am not there, not at risk. Over the decades I have become quite 'jaded' about root plates? Properly, they scare the hell out of me when 10 tons of dirt and lumber suddenly stands back upright. So to await the hard freeze to hold everything safely and static,, sound pretty good to me. I think your logger is brilliant.

Oh yeah, must be Germany or Austria, little short bars so you got to be right in the middle of the action. Very dangerous but they love those dinky little short bars.
@tonyhoulihan7549

Shorter bars = less fatigue = reduced likelihood of accidents. Bigger isn’t always better. Plus there’s less to sharpen when you hit a hidden obstruction 😉

It would have been a lot safer to start at the top of the tree and work backwards to reduce the weight and thus the spring pressure.
