We foraged these oyster mushrooms on 12/31/23 and 1/1/24 in South Central Kansas. These are the perfect winter foraging food, and can be found throughout the year. Our oyster mushroom haul from 12/31/23:

This is my personal process for preparing mushrooms for hydration, so please modify as you see fit. Since I will be reconstituting these later, I didn't bother to get every speck off of the mushrooms. **NOTE- A food dehydrator is handy in the winter, since there is not as much sun to dry your foraged items outside.
We are not experts, just enthusiasts!

I grow oyster mushrooms at home but I like to forage them whenever possible because the ones that grow outdoors are higher in vitamin D. Dehydrating them is a GREAT way to preserve them!

We feel lucky whenever we find them on our hikes! That’s awesome! We want to grow them at home this year. And yes! It’s a great way to store them :)

Thank you for the compliment! :) They are delicious mushrooms and so versatile. I plan to do a video on wild mushroom soup soon, I hardly ever measure ingredients so I think a visual walk-through will be on it's way. Appreciate you!
