Yes, because of you, I have decided to dive into raw fleeces! Not just 1, but 4. Lol. Once I washed and started spinning, my eyes opened up. There is no commercially processed fibre that can resemble what I have. Thank you for showing me how to do this. BTW, I got a Jacob, finn/gotland, shetland, and teeswater fleeces

I agree with you! Nothing commercially processed has the same "life" in it as wool you process yourself. I sitll use it, but it's different, for sure! So glad you are diving in!

I'm the right age for Welcome Back lol. Sounds like I clean fleece pretty much like you do, old tub included. I like to flick and pile it up and card into fluff or comb into roving. Clouds give it so much squish/fluff but I card for that. I'm familiar with on top of things lol...right now I'm on top of my fleece which means the quilting is on the back burner along with my dishes, HA HA HA,

Got 2 FREE babydoll fleeces the other day. They're not exactly cut for spinning but I believe I can make most of it work especially since they were free. They were not skirted at all. It's been raining for DAYS here so I've got them laid out on lounge chairs to let nature do some of the work for me and I skirt them in between bouts of downpour lol. I dont have a carder(yet) and the majority is too short for my homemade combs, so I'm probably going to end up spinning these from the cloud!

Oh! Perfect! I kind of accidentally found myself with an embarrassment of riches in the form of (many) raw fleeces. A local auction company runs its auctions online. Last week, my sister sent me a link to one auction lot that just showed a bunch of boxes and said it was Spinning Wheel Fiber. Even though I didn’t know exactly what I was getting into, I bid on it, and won! It looks like the vast majority of these fleeces😅 have been scoured. I have been spinning for three months, and I’m ready to go to town on these babies! Thanks for the lesson.

Ack! You make me want to buy a fleece! I'm not ready though. I just finished building my Dodec spindle wheel, but it needs adjustments. It's not spinning properly. Hopefully we'll be able to play with it to get it working right soon!

Hi Trish, hope you're OK. Thankyou so much for this video/ podcast. I have a couple Dog Brushes, have made very small Rolags with them. Spin them on my Drop Spindles. Love Roving & Tops. I also have some Batts that I got & make them into variant yarns. The Dog Brushes & Drop Spindles are the only tools I have. I have some Finn Wool & some Jacob oh & some Merino. The Roving I have I don't know what that is apart from being Wool. I would definitely like to try Lock Spinning. Think I'm going to have to find a farm that I could get some from. Thankyou so much for showing this with basically no tools. You are an inspiration & I really appreciate you. Yeah i remember that song too. 🎵 Love the swatches & the way they all looked. Happy Spinning. Take care and stay safe. Love right back to you. Jen xxxx ❤💖

Yep I started with a second hand wheel, (still haven't got a new one) and a dog brush

Me too. I used a dog brush and hair combs, and just worked my way up when I could afford to!

Happy birthday, Fiber Love Dad! PS: my husband sings that particular copyrighted “Welcome back….” too, but I think we’re of a similar age. 😆

I'll tell him, but he doesn't really understand my channel 😂! I'm 47, and you are lucky to have a singing husband!

Can you lay your hands on a spindle? Practice w hile you waiting for your wheel? I don't have the funds for a wheel, but I am having lots of fun with the Turkish spindle I bought three weeks ago...

I'm sorry you're still waiting! I hope it's there really soon? I would say Ailien's suggestion might be something you could go for. At least it would give you a chance to start practicing your drafting!
