I wondered when you got some of the solution on your thumb. If silver had been dissolved in it, it would have turned your finger purple. The silver nitrate would have reacted to the salts on your skin and precipitated silver chloride. Which upon exposure to sun light would have turned your skin purple. Sometimes black. Depending on the amount of silver present.
@themahoneymine after filtering you could have added a salt solution to the silver nitrate solution and precipitated AgCl3 or silver chloride. Then melted with a high carbon Flux. I don't like copper because it can give you a false reading. When I cupel I always run a test sample on the lead. Even that can't be trusted to be silver free. Usually run them side by side. Although you could run separately and remember to deduct the weight of the bead from the other. Anyway, that's why you use D.I water. No salts. Fluorine does the same. Any salt will.
