Just to clarify, the "drop"s are usually right after the first build, usually before any breakdowns happen, the "drop" is the first part of the chorus or main section or right after a breakdown. (breakdown(or first of song) --> build --> drop --> breakdown..). Current trends say the first drop is only superseded in POWER/DRAMA by the second drop in the song. As far as the plug-in for kicks, these (like Duda's Nerve) allow you to build your own kick drum from scratch (very cool). One plugin for 10000000x different kicks? Yes please! Also at 26:32 Dave is talking about the clap/snare that IS on the 2 and 4 that IS blended with the kick and YES we love to hide it in there so you only feel it. Also, breaks(breakbeats) haven't gone anywhere. =)

I know Shep Pettibone personally because he grew up 4 block from my home his mom was my vocal teacher and he was the DJ at the local club call Odyssey in Asbury Park NJ in the 80's my favorite mix of his then was Yaz "Move Out" he would lift the place to a frenzy then cool it down for show time, He has since opened a club of his own called Club Paradise on the Asbury Park Beach. I see him from time to time and remind him of the joy he brought me, awesome guy.

the plugin he mentions " kick by sonic academic/Nicky Romero", doesn't use one kick as he says !! i have been using it lately , it is a sample based plug in and comes with a small library of samples and presets that are good , and you can put your own samples in it too, and you can then tune and add attack and sub to it etc , it is pretty damn good , so you are not stuck with one kick !! not sure what he was going on about really !!

Props to Dave for knowing what a DJ is supposed to be. Love the fact he doesn't need to be on a stage. People should be dancing, not looking at the DJ. Right? We think so! Also props for keeping it on vinyl for as long as possible. That is all we use, still, turntables.

I beg to differ even if your argument is a good point ! As a musician, I often come to gigs to see who's playing, and mainly what's the music they are playing at the moment ! But non-musician people come for the music, the ambiance, not for the DJ, so yeah, you're right :D

Pierre Hagnéré I think a lot has changed though. Now kids are going to dance parties and just standing there watching an eleborate light show while the "DJ" pushes a few buttons on his midi controller to launch already sync'd clips. Not sure what the kids are really going for. I wish I knew, because they aren't dancing.

The people who are most "there for the music" are much less concerned with the performance and visual show... Going to see a DJ is about experiencing an environment, a vibe, a feeling in the room that everyone gets completely lost in. It's not about shooting off fireworks, flame throwers, fist pumping, or throwing cakes on the crowd. It's about getting lost in the music and dancing.
@thewakz

Matt Mullin Yeah, I don't even know anymore with dance music. Seems that a lot of these "raves" these days are just EDM concerts. So I guess if they hid the DJ in the corner people would be confused and not know what to do haha. Times have changed a lot in the electronic dance music scene.

I wanna ask you guys a question I have Nuendo 4 I know it is a little outdated I have mercury wave plugins and I'm running Windows XP they work perfect on Windows XP I gets all my plugins all my mastering plugins but I was having some latency problems that everytime I put too many plugins my computer start making is funny robotic sound like in a start moving really slow so I upgraded to Windows 7 and got a strong a computer and it works fine no latency problems all the problems is fixed but I have a new issue install the mercury waves bundle on Windows 7 Nuendo 4 and when I install the mercury waves bundle I don't get all the plugins I get half of them and the other half is not there non of the mastering plugins are there what does that mean can anybody help me with that
@nutekbeatz6668
@nutekbeatz6668 10 лет назад
Actually Dave Pensado had it right and the other Dave has it backwards lol. Dave Pensado is talking about the break down and Dave Aude is calling the drop the break which is incorrect, the drop is when the beat drops after the break. Two different things lol.. in the hiphop world it's different also.

Haha jokes aside, I think learning on stock plug-ins is best. That's what I did. Once I felt really comfortable with how everything works and was getting decent mixes, I moved to brand names and was able to hear the subtleties between them much better, and was able to quickly figure out what plug-ins worked best for me on specific things in a mix. Many have different individual characteristics, but it's hard to hear those characteristics when you're still learning how to use a compressor, etc.

Call me ignorant but when Dave Aude said something along the lines of the plugin that uses 1 kick drum and how the future of this music is that and sticking with 1 kick drum when you find it blah blah blah did some of you think "the shit seems lazy as it is this just vindicates it" I know I did and I try to appreciate all styles of music and its production. The four on the floor?...........Jesus does it get old. Get something new!
@PRSOne
@PRSOne 10 лет назад
+Nik Drown - That's not really what he said. He said he didn't think it's always necessary to change the kick within the track, he didn't say you shouldn't, he just doesn't like to. What he said he thought was the future was the plugin that allows you to go in, punch in the key, and it gives you a sample in that key without transposing. You don't have to agree with him, obviously. I don't necessarily disagree with him, but I do my kicks a little differently. It's his opinion, take it or leave it, but make sure you're paying attention and understanding before you make a determination... about anything, really.
@nikdrown
@nikdrown 10 лет назад
Ok. Don't have to be so butt hurt about a comment and look too far into it. What I have to say here has nothing to do with my understanding and how I determine anything about other things. I watched this video while folding laundry. Not a fan of dance music at all really and that is where my understanding starts and ends.
