The first time I heard black midi was when 'bmbmbm' randomly came on in a randomly generated playlist while I was peaking on an LSD trip. It definitely ingrained it in my memory for good, an insanely good debut record.
Second only to “There Existed an Addiction to Blood” by clipping, for me. It’s really nice seeing new rock music getting a lot of attention, just on the merits of their sound and musicianship. Lord knows the genre needs more bands like black midi to keep it relevant.
The drums on that second track sound a lot like Can’s ‘Vitamine C’ from 1972! Would love to see you check that out! This Black Midi drummer is amazing; good to hear he takes inspiration from all over the place!
Now everytime i wanna sit down and relisten to an album I think, damn it's kinda lonely in here so I go on the "interweb" and look you up to see if you've done a video for it and it just takes the experience up to a million kajillion times better. I FUCKING LOVE YOU NO.6, YOU'RE THE BEST FRIEND I'VE NEVER HAD!!!
you might not read this but what if you put your currently listening albums into the sleeve where Igor is? i feel that would be a nice little touch. i also love how into the music you are its so great, might be worth giving the rest of their discog a listen, its different but its incredible in its own way
See, I now consider these videos to be additional pieces of art to accompany the albums. That's why I'm not sure about the 'reaction' tag. /yes... I know... I sound pretentious in the extreme! :-D
@@mercurialno6 If you dig Spiderland, check out Rusty by Rodan which was likely a big influence on this album. The View From This Tower by Faraquet is a little bit similar too, just more fast-paced and concise.
I really was thinking "man, it's impossible it's his first time hearing this, he is anticipating a lot of things, the timming of the lyrics and stuff" and then you said what you said about hearing a lot of music in you life and things just kinda make sense and yap, i totally get that. Black Midi is kinda that with me, it's organized caos, it's a lot of things happening at the same time but it all makes sense, it all just fits in and complete each other: the brutally talented drummer, the weirdy voice of the front man, the subtil bass lines and the all out madness. It's just beautiful. And you're just amazing! Keep going the great work!
It’s definitely worth your time to check out some live videos of these guys, their KEXP sessions are fantastic. Once the apocalypse passes, I’d 110% recommend putting in the effort to see these guys live. Maybe the most mind-melting show I was lucky enough to see last year. Perhaps the most impressive thing about this band is how ridiculously young they are - as far as I know they’re all barely in their twenties (they met at the BRIT school). If this is how good their debut album is, I’m insanely excited and somewhat terrified for what their next releases will sounds like. Thanks so much for the video, gonna head to your website and watch the full dis-cover!
Love this album, you should take a look at them live if you haven't already the drummer is crazy. I suggest listening to black country new road, no album yet just two singles but you might enjoy just listening to them off-camera.
Definitely agree, Sunglasses is a must-listen. Maybe one day he'll listen to some of the influences of bands like Black Midi and BCNR such as Slint and Rodan...that would be awesome
@@pc-0343 Yeah they're really great, I suspect that when they do come out with an album (that's assuming they will), they will blow up massively, they're comparatively quite large in the independent British music scene at least.
Would highly recommend Yves Tumor’s Heaven to a Tortured Mind - soul meets glam meets art rock meets Britpop; all morphed into one incredible record! It’s my favourite of 2020 so far, really blew my mind
I feel like you would absolutely adore Lingua Ignota's Caligula. She is insanely talented and there really isn't any good way to describe what she is making nor is there anything even close to it.
On a rewartch I really appreciate your editing. This is a tough album to chop down to half the runtime but you've really captured a genuine reaction from an informed perspective. Double subscribe
They’re afraid of you Mercurial 6! They’re used to mediocracy of other reaction channels, and they’re never expect an explosive, colorful, creative, and enigmatic person like you! Keep going! They’re afraid of your uniqueness to simply enjoy music, since that’s it’s made for ❤️ much love
"David Byrne with Jim Morrison poking out his backside" You my good sir have created one of my favorite artist comps I think I've ever heard. You're a blast to watch, really happy you liked this album.
Man, I remember having the exact same red sound box as a kid and annoying the living hell out of my parents with it. Anyways, amazing reactions, this was one of the top albums of 2019!
Good morning from across the pond! That was intense for my first cup o joe at 6 am....but crazy! The singer reminds me of the lead singer of AC/DC....which of course his name slips my mind cause it’s fricking early. Loved it!!✌️☺️
I just finished watching via your website and I’m so happy I did, to see those messages before and after the album reaction. Your gratitude truly warmed my heart, and I’m so thankful I came across your channel. I haven’t watched all of your videos truth be told, but enough to where I feel I’ve come to know you in some way. Thank you for all you’ve done on this channel, I hope to see you make it to Discover 200 Mr 6 ❤️
Have you ever heard anything from Tropical Fuck Storm? There are parts in this album you reacted very positively to that remind me of their style. A Laughing Death In Meatspace is a good starting album.
They fun thing is that everyone cites different influences for this band. I thought The Fall and Wire, King Crimson maybe. Fantano said Primus. Then they did a cover of their own song in the style of Primus lol. You said Miss Saigon! check mate. The drummer is a beast of he Southern Wild , TBH.
I like to come back and rewatch this video from time to time lol Now that their new album "Cavalcade" is out I'd love you to react to it. I think you'd like it
Best band in the world atm hands down, seen em twice, blow me away all the time. Love em, so talented, incredible. So glad you reviewed this and the slowthai album, hes also out of this world live! 👊❤
