Let's take a look behind the scenes on a product photography photoshoot. This time I am photographing furniture in my bold and graphic still life style with KG Curates.

This would normally be a longer format and more in depth video over on Patreon, but I have something else planned this month for that so a short form version is now up on RU-vid for you all. I hope its of interest. www.patreon.com/tinhouse

Would love to see some focus stacking vs lens movement video. As someone starting out in high end commercial work, this is a hard task to get over with limited equipment ect. For example, what would be the best way for me to get a full chair in focus on a cheap tri pod and no tilt shift movements on the lens... you get what I mean, all part of the fun starting out but would need a solution for the near future

Yes, I also would love to see this, and have similar outlook (not a lot of gear yet).

Dear Scott, I have seen in the minute 1:16 that the orange paper backgruond is not smooth and has some weird shapes, it would be so much interesting to hear from you about it, what do you think it is like that and some tips on how to take care of paper backgrounds. Thank you very much for the amazing knowledge that you bring to our lifes and I hope you the best! Best regards:)

Its caused by storing in damp rooms. That roll was left in a factory loft for a month unwrapped haha. SHOULD go back to normal after a while now its back here.

Mentioned before: Need a new battery in the Mr. Bouncy clock. Want to see the clock whirrling around, and of course stopping. Please. Would be funny. Now I get the need for Mt Bouncy !

A focus stack vs lens movement would be a great video as I have a large format camera and love its movements.

Yes, please do a focus stacking vs. movements/bellows video! I've been wondering about that ever since you introduced the bellows system.

I just wanted to leave a comment after watching a number of your videos, I've really appreciated your clarity of vision and composition in the controlled environment of the studio, it helps to demonstrate how subject position is rendered in camera. I would love a video on how you work with a stylist to develop compositions.

I would say that all of these photos can be taken in 3D quicker :D

I would love to see a focus stack comparison, but speaking of comparisons I have a burning question: I want to upgrade to a full-frame camera, mostly for my own reasons, but also because you said that a pro-photog should shoot FF with the Canon 5dMk2 being the best bang-for-buck option. But then I keep trying to understand the differences in image quality, and anytime I look at a comparison people say there is virtually little to know difference between FF and crop sensors image quality. Even your own video comparing them 2 years ago reaches the same conclusion. What I want to know is why then you recommend FF cameras for stills? I thought it was due to the resolution for commercial work, but a friend debated with me saying that even crop sensors can have just as many megapixels… which I’m not sure is the same thing as image size. Personally, I know there is a slight but subtle difference in DOF, light-intake, image clarity. But I still think that a “full-frame look” exists, in portraiture especially-the wider angle of view and minimal distortion of a 35mm on FF makes images feel larger and seems less distorted than 24mm on APS-C, it’s equivalent. But maybe I’m crazy!

I have this question too, mostly cuz I'm not interested in using Full Frame any time soon, I don't do big projects, I think a crop sensor is good enough, but I would like to see Scott opinion about it

These enormous flash powers, are these just to eliminate the ambient light?

I THINK I can do that with 800 watts with my blinds down, but its mostly so I can have the light far enough away and still exposure correctly in camera

Many videos ago, you gave the advice, that you shouldn´t mix different photography niches in your portfolio...now you are extending your food photography with furniture photography. I guess, you have to describe yourself as a product photographer now...which will give you more freedom in creativity.

The one thing I don't understand is "why?". I don't want to be "that guy" but nowadays similar (if not identical) product shots can be created in 3D with relative ease which kinda makes all the hassle with photographing a product absolutely pointless. And it's a little depressing at the same time. They put so much work (and budget) into it when one decent designer can do pretty much the same thing on a single computer. I hate to say it but with modern technology commercial product photography is a dying genre.
