Thank you so much for this video. I have the same tester but still found it a bit confusing, so this helped. I like the idea of making the chart. I may also buy gem samples, to help identify what they should look like, as well. Have a good day!

Hey buddy, with regards to your Jade test, I think the amount of surface you were touching with your fingers would change the conductivity of the heat, that's why you're getting strange readings.

Very cool, that was fun! I like the chart idea, since as you say, many stones come in multiple colors. Especially, from my days of working in jewellery stores, I was always surprised by the Sapphires of ALL colors, and that sometimes sapphire looks like Ruby, (which nearly matches Sapphire in chemical composition) when it's actually Pink Sapphire. So having the two "corundums" listed there on the meter is a good thing! Have fun with that thing, and I'll look for more stuff to watch!

Hi Walter. Thanks for the demonstration. I think that we all wish that we had this tester! I do think that the manufacturer needs to refine their dial. At times, the "needle" can be going through more than one gem box so how do you know what it truly is? Question: When you say simulants, do you mean simulated gemstones?

HDE High Accuracy Diamond Tester. Hi Walter, I bought one of these myself. what befuddles me is that I have a 10k hallmarked ring with a very large asscher cut solitaire that did not test diamond with my HDE High Accuracy Diamond Tester. so I tried to see what it was with this tester and it goes to tourmaline area, which I don't see any white clear colorless tourmaline's on the internet as a common solitaire for a ring. Ugh, I guess I need to go to a jeweler and I really don't know one, ha ha...thanks for the video, I liked it a lot ;-) stay safe and strong!

Neat and im excited to get mine. I just ordered one cuz i love to buy n collect jewelry that I find on sale from individuals I know a lot of the times you really don't know what you're getting so in particular I'd like to know the quality of one ring that I bought since there's another just like it for sale and if indeed it is a topaz I believe that I got a killer deal so I should buy the other one as well hahaha then I could have one for me and one for my daughter

there are a few stones in the same chemical group eg saphires and rubies so you will have as you say the same reading as the same reading as is shown on the graph even if the stone isnt 1 of those

I have this gem tester and I noticed that all my cubic zirconia will land on the line for “Garnet, Tourmaline and iolite.” I know that Bella Luce from JTV is definitely cubic zirconia and I thought it would test as “glass,” but it tests as “Garnet, Tourmaline and Iolite” on the Presidium Gem Tester II so that is disappointing. Any advice to figure out if the my gems are really garnet, tourmaline and iolite when cubic zirconia gets the same reading with this tester? Allso, will all kinds of garnet such as Tsavorite, Demantoid, Spessartite, Pyrobe, Almadine, Rhodolite, Hessonite and all other varieties of garnet all test as “Garnet,” on the Presidium Gem Tester II?

Thank you for this most interesting and informative review of the Presidium gem tester. Since you first did the this piece have you come across a color chart which would further assist the user in pinning down the exact gem being tested? Also, have you done a video on gold content testing? Thanks for sharing your knowledge of antiques...most generous.

Thank you for your comment. I haven’t found a colour chart yet. I have done films on testing gold. They are in my tutorial section on RU-vid.

My tester makes me put a little pin in a little spot on the right side, near bottom. Then I bet 2 beeps and blue color. Then it says to hold the pen to Cal until it beeps, for 3 times in a row. Then it turns, I think green, and says pen to Glass Cal, then the light turns red, not blinking, and it’s ready. But I have to do this whole thing every time I turn the machine on. Does this sound right?

Thank you for your message. I can see you have to calibrate your tester but I don’t think you should have to do it every time you use it.

"If it's a real stone it must be gold". That's not necessarily true. I bought a job lot of sterling silver rings dirt cheap on e bay. Two of them have precious stones, one is an eternity ring with rubies and diamond chips, the other is much lighter 9ct gold overlayed on silver sapphire cluster with a small central diamond, it's hallmarked 1965 so definitely not moissanite.

Hi Walter, be careful.i think a dangerous machine for dealing.does it separate man made, laboratory stones from the natural mined.i think not. I think you are better off getting a gold, silver scanning machine. Jewellery is becoming increasingly difficult to know what you are selling, people are even swapping out good stones from old pieces.thats why platinum settings from 1900s are safer as difficult to alter the setting. Enjoy your videos from here in NZ. Wish I could hit some boot sales and fairs in UK.
@BlessedBaubles
@BlessedBaubles 2 года назад
Yes but the machine says, and everyone knows, the machine doesn’t tell if lab or mined stones. But atleast it takes us to some point, then go from there.

On Amazon product detail, States it does not distinguish between natural and synthetic stone. Im not sure i understand, why would i purchase if i cant distinguish if its real. If something is synthetic i want to list it properly. How do you feel about that or am i not understanding product detail
@MsHolaholaa
@MsHolaholaa 2 года назад
Synthetic/lab grown vs natural/earth mined, are chemically the same. So both would be considered 'real'. If a piece of jewellery is hallmarked with a date stamp or you know the general age of it, you can from there google whether they made the synthetic version of the gemstone in question during that time. So, from there you can figure what the chances are of the stone being natural or lab created. I hope this makes sense. With sapphire for example, from pieces within the last 50 years, most of the time it is not a natural sapphire as these are becoming very rare. But usually I would go by how old the piece of jewellery is and see if they were making synthetics of it yet.

@@AntiquesArena They haven't been invented yet. I want a tester that tells me on the screen what kind of exact gem is being tested rather than making a guess about what kind of gem it is.
@AntiquesArena
@AntiquesArena 8 месяцев назад
@@TranquilBlackout that’s fair enough I would love that also. Problem is lots of gems have a similar heat absorption rate then it would go on colour etc. this isn’t perfect but the best I could find and afford at a reasonable price
