Every now and then I get stuck with these Non-design related tasks, as no one teaches a designer that your 40% job will also be to this essential stuff. And then I come to this channel and get exact no-nonsense demonstration of how you can do this. This channel has been my Go to channel for real, applicable design career making knowledge. All other channels just talk about either design thinking, sprints and tool. This channel has been a lifesaver for me more than a few times. Thanks. :)

Hey Femke, thank you so much for your really nice content. I am Carolin from Germany currently studying UX Design to get a B.A. I wanted to thank you because you helped me to decide that UX is my way. My biggest dream in life is to work and life and love in San Francisco. So you're such a big help and inspiration for me. I hope I took the right step towards my dream and will be able to Succeed. I am nearly 30 and changed everything for this. So Thank you! So much virtual hugs from overseas

What role do Product Managers play in roadmapping? Are PRDs typically created by PMs? These type of roadmaps is what I wish our team implemented. I will give it a go! I'm also the newest designer on the team and feel awkward telling them we should be more structured with goals and priorities. Our designs often sit in backlog for way too long and eventually just die. Much of the issues stem from lack of a clear company vision or communication of business goals. We tend to work on random projects which typically never make it to development or we have to scrap them and make a simpler version for implementation, which still end up taking nearly a year or year(s) to release. We're supposed to be "agile" but design processes and feedback loops are very much waterfall.

@@femkedesign it's sometimes actually usually good to have these in the videos for a short moment of laughter besides such great content, intentional or not 😋 Nobody's acting here so not a big deal. Lovin' it! I'm gonna experiment around with your roadmap template and see how I can personalise it.

Thanks a lot, Femke. I'm looking forward to your next videos! I have questions in regards to the PRD, who's in charge of writing it? Is it a necessary document to have before starting to design?

Are you t shirt sizing based on time you dedicate on the task solely and do you work on like 2 tasks at the same time and does that affect how you t shirt size?

Thank you! Is "t-shirt size" a commonly used moniker for project duration in the PM world? Seems a bit confusing to the uninitiated (me;). Although I guess it's important to have a little fun?

good and useful video. i had a question about the shirt sizing in the product roadmap, the smallest measure was XS=2 weeks. i was wondering what do you include in a project listed in the road map? would that include every aspect of the project, not only the design part (you do mention at the end that some projects in the roadmap do not include design, so just checking). A 2 week project that includes planning, scoping, validation workflow, research, design, testing, dev, QA, re testing... not sure if that could include much design methodology. where do you size the design (UXR,UXD, UI, testing...) parts? thanks

Hi Femke, do you find yourself doing mobile as well web ux in your role, or do you have another ux designer for each platform? obviously with websites, web apps, apple and android components, interactions, guidelines, tools and so on... its an awful lot to get familiar with. Almost too much for one designer, at least all at one time anyway. How does this work in your experience, do you guys generally have a niche and master it, or do you dip in and out depending on the project at hand? At which point familiarise yourself with that project as much and as fast as possible. Also do you ever have to code? Or is it just a case of understanding the capabilities of a given platform. For example, html/css/javascript for websites and webapps.

Great video and helpful as always. We do something similar where I work as well. I want to get some clarity on the T-shirt size estimation, does it contain design and dev effort both or just the time it will take to handoff the designs?

Design only! We do separate t-shirt sizing for eng.

@@femkedesign Got it! Thank you 🤗 How do you estimate the time/effort it will take to do a certain project? Is it based on a hunch or personal experience and differs from one designer to the other? Or is there some framework that you use?
