Exactly. Glossed right over it and deflected. Changed subject instantly. More to that for sure. It's not the best design imo to have vents in back of cooking chamber. Of course water will get in. Unless you buy the tiny vent covers and seal them on. I love my 590 but I don't care for the companies alacarte business model. Should come w the front shelf and vent covers installed like every other grill and smoker. I shouldn't have to buy extra stuff that costs $150 just to get it to the same baseline as competitors. Especially given the cost of the unit. Flip side, company stands behind the product like no other and has been good to me. When mine had an auger jam from guess what? Getting wet inside, I bent the auger trying to get it out. Was really jammed in there. Took a crowbar and me getting pissed off to break it free. They sent me a new auger, clip pin, sealant and a motor! I asked for it just in case I damaged it and affected longevity. No questions asked. Who else will do that?! I'm a loyal customer for that reason. If they didn't stand behind it like they do I would not be loyal and let people know to consider the vent design, tiny ineffective vent covers, and alacarte nickel and dime business model in their shopping. It's business though. It allows them to have the resources to have the customer service and warranty they do. Not to mention the cooking videos, recipes etc. But I'd be interested to know why the change. Didn't resolve having an opening for rain to get into the cooking chamber from what I could tell in this video. I'm asking for a chimney instead of chamber vents. Keep the water out. Love mine though. I'd spend the money and buy a 700 next time just to not have the vents

@@brentphillips262 Totally agree! And I don't expect an answer. If this is a "product spotlight" shouldn't they be showing off the new design and explaining the changes? I had a lot of water leaking problems with mine, and they recommended getting the add on vents (like you say more money for something that should have been included) but they were out of stock for over 6 months! I'm glad you spoke up because I feel like I am the only one sometimes. I had problems with mine in shipping and by the time they got back to me (after numerous emails and pics I sent) I already fixed the problem myself. Their reviews are also a joke, if you look at them they are all 4 or 5 stars. I left a bad review and it never showed up on their site - imagine that!

We made a slight modification so that moisture doesn't get in. Not saying there is nothing wrong with how it was made before. We are always finding ways to make our grill even better so that we won't have problems in the future. :)

@@recteq We all know there was a problem with how it was made before, that's why you made "add on" vents we had to pay extra for, just to keep the rain out. I don't understand why you can't just admit there was a problem and you made a change. We would respect the company a lot more for their honesty instead of insulting our intelligence.

Just take that shield out of it and make sure it's not plugged in when cleaning out the hopper

I noticed that as well. There was no explanation pawned it off on the “customers requested it.” I’m not cooking in the rain so for me it’s not going to matter, but he totally dodged that question.

@@bdodson70 I hear ya. But I do overnight cooks in the rain and snow. So I guess if I want to know more about the vents, I gotta research their website. Would've been nice if he would've explained them.

@@bradtoepfer289 totally agree, they are not even listed on there website at this time so it’s not an option anymore is how I take that. Usually if you’re out of stock you just put a watermark that indicates it’s out of stock on the item but it’s not even on their website, may have to look third-party someplace else?

@@bradtoepfer289 So looking closer I was referring to the 3 open vents in the back the older model. Looking closer there are now 5 vents, and they are louvered, not open. Look closely at the 590 on their website it shows the newer vent design. So maybe that’s why he was so evasive of the question. But I don’t understand why he wouldn’t just met have mentioned the 5 vent versus the 3 and the benefit.

Bummer, I'm in Cali as well and mine took 7 days from loading on the truck to delivery.

A tray that slides forward and back would be nice too. I have a lot of ideas I guess the real question is how many people have to want it before they change ;) Like I said the joke to me is they call this a "product spotlight" then gloss over questions that that refer the the grill that is being spotlighted! I would not even know the vents were changed since they never brought it up. If it does stop rain (which would be great) then show us the upgrade don't try to hide it.

The higher you set it, the longer it takes. So let's say 225°F, it will take anywhere from 5-10 minutes. If you set it to full I'd give it 10-15 minutes. :)

A different company had to pick up the broken box which required me to try to smoosh everything I unassembled back into it, just felt a little cruddy for something I paid for and then it was broken and I had to put my time in to get it ready for pickup again && I didn't even get expedited shipping or anything added for my troubles. I'm always big on how a company handles these issues.

you could fit a 14-16 pound bird without spatchcocking it. You could get a larger bird in there if you spatchcock it.

Yes it does. Received my 590 two weeks ago. Its very heavy and looks like it will do the trick nicely. Haven't tried going to 6 or 700 yet but very curious.

Apparently we're not supposed to know??? They changed the 3 vents to 5 rows of smaller vents, I am guessing because of the rain coming in problem. It would be nice if they would explain the change.

He gave a bullshit answer. He wasn’t interested whatsoever in that question. So I guess we’re supposed to make our own assumptions. The reality is the first vents were a poor design that required you to buy an extra accessory. Looks like now, they’ve been re-designed to have their own louvers and there’s more of them

We are always making slight modifications to make the product better. And that's what we did in this case. We made the vents smaller so that in this case there is a better chance to not allow moisture in. That's the main reason. :)

@@recteq Thanks for answering. It was very strange the way the question was skipped over. If it was a product spotlight I would think you would be proud to show the new vents and how they were improved to keep out rain. Even if there was a problem with the old ones, nothing wrong with admitting it and showing the improvement.
