As a carp angling community we really need to put a stop to tactics such as this that give the carp no chance of outwitting the angler. It's a sport where the carp should always be one step ahead. Overstocked lakes, angling pressure, drones, bait boats and tactics such as this, give the carp no chance of escape and it's bordering on cruelty.
@Ste_O_D

Bite alarms, bait boats, finders and a hell of a lot more.....carp fishing hasn't been angling in 40 years m8

This is an interesting development- but no end of questions will result. Back in the 70s there was a self hooking rig developed, but it didn't take off. This seems way more advanced. No doubt it will work, but some MASSIVE questions for fishing: - At what stage does fishing become too efficient? Would there be any point if every single fish was hooked? - How much agency do you as an angler want to have? Does it strike you as odd that it's now possible to catch a fish with minimal traditional watercraft (just use fishfinder or drone) no casting (use a baitboat), no spotting bites (bite alarm) and no strike involved? Find a device to reel in the fish and you now have a sport where almost no human agency is required. - Do we want a sport where striking is redundant? Carp angling has already ushered in a new era of this. But the video says "all branches of angling can benefit". Really? Striking is a key skill. It's enjoyable. Do you want a sport where almost every step is done by a device? What you cannot deny is that the device looks effective and well put together. But it could change everything in ways many don't like. How can the inventor say "this won't affect you if you don't want to try it"? If it becomes standard fare, of course it will impact your fishing. How many might feel uneasy about this, but then use it because everyone else on the lake is getting a hooked fish from every single take? The fish could become next level stressed out and on edge- and those who say "no thanks" will find it even harder to get bites. Pretty crazy. And if everyone uses it, could the carp become ultra, ultra-educated? Does angling need something fish cannot deal with? For any excitement to exist, there has to be the chance of the fish getting away with it. Ultimately, anglers say they want mystery and a game of chance but guess what... it turns out many of us seem to want predictability and a game of certainty. However, if you made the sport completely predictable it would soon lose its magic. This device is another step towards complete predictability and efficiency. Only you can decide whether that is a good thing or not... will be interesting to see how this one pans out.

If anyone has a copy of Carp Fisher, from Summer '95, have a read of the Kevin Maddocks article. This has been done before, albeit in a cruder form. It was abandoned for being unethical and Maddocks felt that it would get banned on most fisheries. I guess time will tell here.

@@Mikeyh98 if you snap off and this stays attached it is a snag magnet. Going to get wrapped up in weed as soon as it finds some. Also if you foul hook a fish in the belly then this goes off there is no way you are not causing more damage than without it. Other less likely scenarios can happen as well but it remains to be seen on how powerful the mechanism is when triggered.

Many lakes have banned it already. Can see a few issues with it personally a) going off when setting up your bait/PVA bag and hooking yourself b) snagging issues c) damage to fish (other species don't have tough lips like carp do) d) the amount of plastic left in the lake when snapping off. It seems a bit gimmicky and robotic, the art of fishing is disappearing with additions like this and bait boats etc. I maybe on my own but that's how it feels to me 😞

RIP carp fishing. I know I am going to be in the minority but this has to be the worse product released ever. Rig mechanics is part of the intrigue and puzzle that is carp fishing. To take that away knowing any load of crap assembled on the end of your line will work, then that’s a dark day for the sport. I just hope these are over priced and fishery owners ban them up and down the country. These seem crude as mouse traps. Ali, these are a disaster for the industry. I like Ali and wish him the best. If you play back the video of the carp from the magic twig cover slowly it looks like the twig does not activate. Around 11:16 you can see the arms do not appear to spring out even when the carp shakes it's head and swims away. It probably activated once the angler starting reeling the fish in. Even the actual cover photo shows the arms clearly not activated. At 14:09 you can see the arms activate just as the lead is moving, this does appear to cause the fish to bolt out of the swim. I like innovation in fishing but I am not convinced that this will perform better than just adding an elastic section to your rig.

Banned at an increasing number of lakes now, as the open arms will cause a death rig effect if you break off the fish via a mainline failure. This is because the arms open facing the fish, so they will catch on any snag, weed or similar which will anchor the fish to that point. I understand the mechanics, and its a brilliant concept, but its not safe in my opinion. This opinion is shared by more lakes that ban it everyday.

I cant believe what I am actually seeing on social media. From what I am reading from the target audience, it seems to me this has become more of a sanction on Ali himself rather than going against the product. Venues pre banning it before they have looked at it, touched, used it, forced the components until destruction, really put it through its motions. Then on the back of all the venue bans, all potential end users laughing and slamming Ali/OMC. Product looks great. Enthesis, on my comment on LOOKS great. Might be a load of crap, but that is the point of testing it for yourselves and then making reflection on the product. If, with time the product proves to be unsafe or deemed a waste of time, then slam it all yous want, but until then, keep a open mind before making a pre conceived idea of what the product is all about.

Every club water I belong to has banned this contraption and I can see why, if you get snapped up or have a crack off casting and a carp picks your bait up its a death rig looking for a snag. Its a solution looking for a problem, get the basics sorted and you will catch. Can you prove that if you wasn't using this that you wouldn't have caught those carp. It's very hard to perform some form of control tests in the wild on carp if not impossible, far to many variables.

I was skeptic but this video has certainly made a difference in my thinking and made me want to buy some , BUT the only problem is most lakes are banning them so that’s the main issue for me at the moment. I suppose it’s an advantage for the lakes that let you use them but could be few and far between at the moment. Hope some warm to the idea

Is this not a version of the hermit rig (steve renyard) or the nora rig which is the same concept. Also nash tackle do triggalink which becomes elastic when wet.

No works totally opposite way you stretch the spring set it then when it goes off the spring pulls the hook 3 unch backwards to hook the fish

Can’t wait to see the kids in my local park lake using these to batter out the 5lb carp in there 😢 Love the other OMC gear that you’ve come out with for quality and innovation and value but not this one I’m afraid. Not surprised fisheries are banning it before its even on sale.

Hi Ali I totally get the concept the only worry which again I get from lake owners and anglers is the two arms that could get caught in a snag .could it nit be redesigned. Instead of two arms why not 2 clips that lock it and when it's triggered they just fall off maybe sell a bag of clips as well as the magic twig just a thought

Just a plastic version of the boer rig. Game changer 🤣 yeah you wait until it gets caught in a landing net and rips a carps mouth

In the 80s when I was 13 I built a safe rig with pole elastic for carp and it did the same thing and caught lots of carp on it at my local lake

Hmmmm… it’s a brilliant product no doubt.. however for me just don’t think I’ll be going for it as as “anglers” the misses, the figuring out etc is all part of angling..it won’t get more “bites” as surely that’s down to rig, bait placement and fishing in the right spots.. this product is designed to eliminate missed bites and doesn’t that change it slightly from fishing, angling to just “catching”?…

Carp angling has become a cruel sport now. Constantly busy lakes where the carp has no chance of peace and escape. I don't know what the answer is. I'm a carp angler but at times I feel sorry for the carp. Big unpressured lakes where the carp can escape seems the only ethical option.

This product could be one off the biggest deals in carp fishing history if the arms are pretty weak if forced the wrong direction so if you get snapped and the fish gets caught in a snag the arms can snap off and free the fish. Nothing has been mentioned about this. Would be nice to get a video out on social media networks about it showing the strength/weakness off the arms

Although ive had this idea in my head for years and do see it as a genius piece of innovation. Seriously where does it end, spring loaded hooks the extend when touched, ai and micro drones that drag your rig into the fishes mouth. I think there needs to be a limit and this thing had crossed the line now of using more and more tech against the fish. Saftey aspects aside as well. Fishings becoming easier and easier, lets keep it a fair sport and keep the challenege and mystery guys

So how much force needs to be applied for it to recoil? How does it work along side lighter weights 2oz for example? What about when fishing in silt does it have the thrength to trigger efficiently through it ?
