If you're submitting to music libraries for music licensing or sync licensing, to get your music on film, TV or video games, you need to be able to get a production music library to click on your tracks and, also sell the music library on why your music is a great fit for them.
In this video, Michael takes you through a great strategy when sending music to production music libraries to get your music on film and TV.

Do you look for trends before you submit to Music Libraries? What shows do you use as inspiration for your sound? How have you developed your style and stayed true to what the market wants? Leave your thoughts below!

This is fantastic advice. I've got a ton of music that I've been releasing as tracks that I want to use the stems for towards something thematic in television, film, or advertising. The catchy hooks I write, both lyrically and musically, would fit well in certain programming. Research! Yes, it's important to be able to reference material that would be a perfect fit. Great video! ☮💚🙂🎶

I'm still trying to get over the hump of writing "what the market wants." I'm at the point of trying to write music that is similar to what I may hear in current games/TV/movies, but I am writing this way because I happen to like those styles. Writing just for the market tends to take the enjoyment out of composing, but also writing in my own unique style is not "what the market wants"🤣 Difficult to find the right balance, but what do you think of approaching a library with music that may be wanted by clients, but is a style that a library may not have much of, if at all?

Good question Matt! If the library deems that your music MAY be popular with clients, they MAY sign it! :-) You can try that approach if you want of course, you never know, it could work. Where we're coming from in this video is getting as close to certain that they will listen to your tracks by showing them that they are incredibly likely to have placements with them, as that is happening with other similar music in the market. Composing should be enjoyable, but if you are writing music for income purposes, it has to be client/market led. Same in any business. Same if you were scoring a movie - you'd have to find the right solution for the movie first, not the solution that you enjoyed composing the most. Hope that helps!

@@MusicForIncome Thanks for answering Michael! I had to ask because my natural writing style leans toward the Hollywood Golden Age with bits of JRPG thrown in for good measure. So I look at it from the point of many composers being more modern/trailer music style, but do libraries have many "Golden Age" style composers? It may seem like an outdated style, but you do still hear that style out there. So maybe I can focus on finding clients that are looking for that style and doing other styles in between, but I get doing what the client and market wants, rather than what I want. Otherwise I'd just have to focus on concert music. Thanks for this channel and advice!

@@Vitericus1 Sensible approach, Matt! So, just as an exercise, exactly where are you hearing that golden age style? What shows? (I’m not saying you don’t hear it by the way! Just good to try to look at those sources.) 👍🏽
