Our latest glulam project we are currently working on. Video shows a production process of 12 meter roof trusses with hidden steel which will be assembled in near future. Each truss consists from top and bottom chords with 14x20cm, and webs with 12x12 cm cross section. Timber used is spruce glulam in gl32 strength class. Steel pins are 8.8 class. All steel pieces are galvanized. Each wooden interior beam was milled on a milling robot. Slits were milled using a robot mounted chainsaw or with a chain mortiser. Visible parts were painted with polyurethane matte varnish and hidden parts with two coats of fungicide solution.
Thank you for watching and don't forget to like and subscribe! :D

@frogman708
@frogman708 3 года назад
Are the steel pins only pressed in ? Or is there any other way to secure them? So it's not like you're clamping on to the steel plates and therefore loading the pins with a sheer stress , right ? If so, are the any measures to load all pins equally ? how do you program the robot ?
@lignumchannel
@lignumchannel 3 года назад
I model in rhinoceros with rhinocam plug in. For krl files I use Irbcam software. The pins are only pressed in, The holes radius are 0.1mm smaller than pins so friction holds them in place. The pins are calculated to sheer stress and they transfer the stress more or less equally because of the small tolerances and precise hole drilling. The wood also gives a little so to speak so if one pin is much more loaded than the others, small deformation in wood around that pin leads to more load transfer to other pins in the joint until all of them are loaded.

Nice video but are you sure that orientation of tension struts is right?!? Would like to see that structural calculation :)
@lignumchannel
@lignumchannel 3 года назад
Nothing for a couple of months and then in two days, two people write the same comment, amazing!😁 In short, structure is more than strong enough to be assembled like this but there is a hallway somewhere around the middle of the span and there are two other support posts for each truss hidden in the hallway walls which will be assembled later on. They will redistribute the forces and serve more purposes. Some of the steel post will be left visible and will also hold the big sliders for huge glass panels which will slide and divide space along the trusses.

My first thought was: that's a strange place to be adding hydraulic fluid. Then I realized it was bar oil for a chain saw and knew: this is going to be good. Curious as to why the CNC (or other fancy tool) wasn't used to make the slots at 4:01. I've made a lot of those like that, and getting the bottom flat/parallel/etc is always a pain -- even if the chisel _is_ sharp.
@lignumchannel
@lignumchannel 3 года назад
Glad you like the chainsaw:) the reason is length, we would lose more time getting those beams to the robot than just doing it by hand. Workshop space is becoming more and more of and issue and that's why sometimes we have to rent a bigger workshop space like in this case..
