Was searching for jerk explanation, because of 3D-printing problems. This one is the best. Thanks!

well in fact, you missed the fact that "jerk" means absolutely different thing in GRBL / Marlin. in Marlin it means "startspeed" it is a frequency that gets immediatelly applied to STEP pin on the STEP/DIR drivers. so you start immediatelly with "acceleration", reach the target feedrate, then deccelerate to jerk speed and then suddenly stop.

Yes, me too. At last I found this great video not just explaining what jerk is all about but also visualizing it. Now I can play with acceleration and jerk setting of my 3D printer. Thanks!

Im wondering if the compromise when using jerk is less accuracy especially when multiple axis are working together?
@automationdirect
@automationdirect 4 года назад
Hi Ben, Final accuracy will be the same. The path taken to get there will be different, of course.

Fantastic but what if we increase the ramp up and ramp down time. Does it have the effect.
@automationdirect
@automationdirect 4 года назад
Sure, Jerk will smooth out any ramp time, but slow ramps aren't usually an issue, of course... FYI: We have over 1000 Automation Video Tutorial Videos at: www.AutomationDirect.com/videos and www.AutomationDirect.com/Cookbook Enjoy!

I have been trying to measure the effects of jerk control with an accelerometer on my 3D printer but it does not appear to have any effect on a single line move like your test shows, sadly.

Which 3D printer are you using?

Beautiful, is there online or free software for S-curve visualitations?
@automationdirect
@automationdirect 7 месяцев назад
We do not carry anything like that as an independent program. Many of our PLCs allow logging that may be used for that function, and many of our servos and drives offer higher speed logging options, but we do not have a stand along program for use with any system. While there might be online or free logging software that could do the job, there isn't anything we can point you too unfortunately.
