The truth is, that most of the central part of the so called Eurasian landmass is a wasteland, a desert, a barren land almost empty of people. Yes, China and Russia share a border, but the Chinese heartland and the Russian heartland are thousands of kilometers away from each other, inbetween is ice and snow, swamps and mosquitos, deserts and forests and almost no people. The country of Kazakhstan, that looks huge on the world map, only has 18 million inhabitants, Mongolia has only 3 million inhabitants, Turkmenistan has only 6 million inhabitants, etc. Asia is only really populated along the coast, from China, Souteast Asia, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey. Everything North of that line is only interesting for extracting resources or hiding rockets.
About Japan and the war: Syngman Rhee, the eventual first president of the Republic of Korea spent the first half of the 20th Century in the US. And during that time, he wrote a book titled "Japan Inside Out". He explained that Japan couldn't be trusted and warned that the US would go to war against Japan. The book was published in early 1941 and became a bestseller before the Pearl Harbor attack. So, the war against Japan was more than because of economic reasons.
How about some serious diplomatic efforts by America with the Chinese, instead of the current militaristic the approach of our government. I believe that bipolar diplomacy or some sort of cooperative hegemony should be the topic on the agenda! This is far preferable to a likely major war and possible nuclear armageddon. 😢 I was born in 1936 and have experienced much of America's war-like nature. It is now most urgent that the earth needs major change if humans are to survive. Will “AI” be that change, or will everything accelerate and only get worse? Soon my small light will go out so I wish you all a successful transition.🎉❤
Have you heard of the first island chain? From the Philippines to the North of Japan (and South Korea). They all don't like the People's Republic of China. Taiwan wouldn't be alone in a case of conflict.
let's not forget, China when it was at its weakest, along with North Korea took on Uncle Sam and its lackeys, in spite of superior weaponry, unchallenged airpower, better logistics, earned its first non-win in the Korean war. it's second non-win in Viet-Nam. you think North Viet-Nam could've imposed a DMZ on US?
@@willengel2458 India, whose northern borders China encroaches upon? Vietnam, whose boats and islands China claims? Making every neighbor an enemy is not a foreign policy.
Misinformed. It is we have very DIFFERENT definition of what "victory" is. If one reads more history, here are the facts: 1/ China casulties close to 5 MM; 2/ US casulties close to 50K. US Media was in Uproar when 50K casulties occured. If one defines a war with 5MM deaths/ injuries (while the enemy losts 50K) A WIN, I will take A LOSS on any day.
God this is a horrible philosophy: “looking after our own” as if humanity is not “our own”. It’s insane to talk of “our own” on a nationalistic basis. This is surely merely a dressed up kind of racism. This is not to say there is no logic in some of the strategic thinking, such as China being a greater threat than Russia. But if you remove human sympathy then who will be your ally? This is also part of strategy. To show human feeling for the suffering. What I would argue is that the philosophy of this lecturer: to make strategy a matter of self interest and power is exactly the thinking which has alienated the US from so much of the world and which has made many parts of the global south unable to feel safe with Western power: thus making them silently side with China and Russia.
@@dddz961 what’s wrong with editing in order to correct typos? And it’s certainly not my fault if you are unable to make any substantive criticism of my comment and you can only resort to ad hominem. That is entirely your failure and you need to take responsibility for your own failure.
@@christophervaughan2637 are you deranged? Is that your problem? You think he is "racist" against Ukraine for prioritizing Taiwan more? What is his race, child? Does he look Asian to you?
India nowadays has two times bigger economy than Russia, the biggest population, and is formidable military power, which has a border dispute with China. Perhaps world has changed over the last 50 years, and now "triangle" is USA, India, China.
India is not a key player in this world power game. India has none of the key strength qualities needed to become a super power like the US, Russia, and China.
