Prof. Jacques-Louis Lyons (1928 2001) formerly of the College de France, received the Harvey Prize in Science and Technology in recognition of creating modern control theory in all its aspects and its application to physics and engineering, for his pioneering work in applying methods of functional analysis in the theory of linear as well as non-linear partial differential equations and numerical analysis and forhis many contributions to applied mathematics
