Professor Jay taught my fingers to bend! Loved his style and class. I was fortunate to meet him in the 90s. God bless to the family

I had the privilege of speaking to Wally Jay on the phone when I ordered his book on Chinese Meridians. A great man.

Loved getting to hang out with him and learn from him a few times. I don't think I"ve seen this video in some 18 years or so. I wish I could have trained with him more. I still use what I learned to this day.

This video takes place at Bernie Lau's dojo; he is in the black gi. Bernie learned Aikido in Hawaii and was an undercover police officer in Seattle for decades. (When he says "in the street" that's his decades of experience with people that don't want to be arrested.) He has a great book (see Amazon): "Dance with the Devil: Memoirs of an Undercover Narcotics Detective". seattleschoolofaikido.org/index.php/about_icho_ryu/ ejmas.com/jcs/jcsart_svinth_1101.htm Wally Jay's book "Small Circle Jiu Jitsu" is good also.

I don't like how the Netflix series "The Legend of Bruce Lee" portrays Wally Jay, they portrayed him as a nasty bully. But he seems like a really nice man in real life.

I never saw the show, but I did meet & train with Prof Wally Jay many times (& because I am tall, he often used me as an Uke). He was friends with my Jujitsu Sensei. He had a huge heart, great sense of humor & flawless technique. Great man. Rest in Peace, Warrior.

I hate it when you see someone and can't place their name. The guy in black is Bernie Lau.

I am benefiting from his small circle creation because my teacher has taught it to me, and I get to teach it when he has me teach his class.

I want to see some spar and use these movies. It it's easy to do this while someone is just standing there.

It cant be done. I did 2 years of small circle. We had in house sport jj tournies where you start from the feet and then have 30 seconds to submit people on the ground. Every single match from the white belts all the way to the black belts, even black belts vs white belts. i never once saw someone employ a standing wristlock, armbar or finger lock. yes they were allowed but no one could ever pull them off. Seen plenty of tko's and ground submissions though. thats real fighting. knockouts and ground submissions. the rest is fantasy.

Perhaps because small joint manipulation techniques were illegal because they tend to break really fast before you can tap?

You need set up for wristlocks to be effective, in bjj we use a few wristlocks in the ground.

Wally Jay was magnificent but small circle jujitsu is extremely dangerous for beginners to practice as they can easily hurt their partner.

Why have background music interfering with hearing the dialogue on this bad quality video where we have to rely on listening to what is said because the visuals are so poor? Frustrating!

Dea r Mr. Professor, With all respects to Mr. dan Inosanto, and Prof. Wally Jay, An excelent presentation for attackers, beginners, quite unaware of the expected defence. Yet there are two more levels. those the intermediate- roughly of the same level: to getg/or fiool thenminto your positions, some extre view /sight of the direction of attack is needed. Say, what if they make fake movememtns? THe higher or advanced level requires some preemptive movememnts. An experienced defender as the Professor might be OK, but , to my experiences, any preemptive attack or tactics cannot be learned as simply as presented ľithin 7 minutes. A warning of time to lear all that is more than appropriate.. Top the benefit of Yiout viewers. Best regards. Pavol Bajusz, 65, retired insturctor of Karate.
