Question, I have a diesel 2018 colorado 2.8l duramax, with 46k, when I drive it Makes like pulls when the RPM is going up, like loses power on the pedal but just little bit. recommendations or things to consider I never clean any sensor or throttle body I bought with 42k miles

Isn't this blade used for engine shutdown and also to create a vaccum for the EGR and I would also imagine for brakes?
@HunterSkiff
@HunterSkiff 6 месяцев назад
Yes it is used to proportion EGR into the chair air stream

@@HunterSkiff ok I guess this hasn't affected your brakes or engine shutdown. Mind if I ask who adjusted the tune for this blade to be removed? Also thank you for all your videos, they are really help and awesome to watch. Cheers.

Did this work with factory intercooler pipes? or did you have to get a longer boot for cold side?

nope, works perfect with factory pipes and clamps

Any way I can get a hold of you? I have a 19 canyon and just got my tuner from MO with the files pre loaded. I dealt with Tristan M and he said the files were pre loaded into the auto cal, and my authorization code was included, but I don't see it. Maybe its in the Autocal itself? Just had some questions about uploading the tune

I hear ya. It seems to be one of those engine platforms where if parts are available, and you can swing the money, buy it. Did that recently with the set of CP Rods, evidently they are discontinued

Do you get more power and torque?.what's the point.
@HunterSkiff
@HunterSkiff 2 года назад
The point is to remove the obstruction/turbulence caused by the stock blade, as well as the stock EGR probe, nozzle, etc behind it. Is there any more power to be had with the increased efficiency? Possibly. I have not had the truck on a dyno to quantify a change in power if any. The placebo effect tells me the truck spools up slightly quicker. Really wish someone would make a cold side pipe that wasn't crushed, dented, necked down to clear the fuse box. Also something that had better connections to the intercooler. Just putting that out there.

Your truck is awesome! Im having an issue with mine where it will periodically hiccup and blow a puff of white smoke. Usually after slowing down and taking off at low rpms also blows black smoke on every take off. I have a turbo back exhuast and a def delete. Would installing a egr block off plate help this issue or maybe its something else🤔

@MrRuffus09

I put plates on, had the same issue. Ran some turbo/intake/valve cleaner and it cleared up a lot. Definitely think it is from the turbo, possibly oil seepage into turbine side. Gonna rebuild turbo and check oil drain line, could be backed up, or just needs to be cleaned and rebuilt. Hope this helps.

What is the benefit to do this? I live in commiefornia so can’t delete/tube. What if any advantage does this provide. Also thanks for the reminder about the catch can, I was reluctant to get one thinking they were just gimmicky but after seeing that slide build up (I’m also at 45k miles) I’m buying one. Any recommendation on catch can model?
@HunterSkiff
@HunterSkiff 3 года назад
Increased flow on the intake side. Every little bit of increased efficiency helps. You will have to have tuning to account for the removal of the factory air blade. The catch can is a Burger motorsports can. Most of the "kits" online sell this can with some hose at a huge markup. The can can be bought from their eBay store amongst other places. If you want to keep oil out of the intake tract...and you should...the easiest and cheapest way to do that is to just run a hose from the PCV port on the top of the engine down to the frame rail somewhere, and then cap the port on the intake tube from the airbox to the inlet on the turbo. I believe it's 3/4 inch hose and a 3/4 inch plug to cap the intake. The catch can only serves to catch the oil, as the name implies.

I would start running either gumout diesel treatment or something for the diesel to help keep all that plumbing clean!

There are quite a few factual errors and issues here, poor way to approach what you're trying to achieve. Firstly, the purpose of the throttle body on the intake of a diesel is to generate a vacuum for the EGR system so that it actually recirculated exhaust gas at idle. It is this soot from the exhaust that mixes with the oil in the pcv. Removing the oil from the pcv will limit your build up but your engine will now be breathing in dryer more abrasive diesel soot/charcoal from the still recirculating exhaust. The oil itself is perfectly fine to combust and engines are designed for a certain amount of oil - issue is some a poorly designed and this plus EGR is your problem. Your 30% increase in flow is silly because that's a 30% difference in a piece that is contributing

I am aware of the function of EGR and how the factory air blade (throttle valve) aids in EGR function. This truck has been tuned for a race application and to shut the EGR valve full time, and thus, the air blade is no longer functional, which includes during shut off. Removing oil from the crank case vent with either a catch can or other device would go a long way to prevent build up in the intake as the particulate in the recirculated exhaust gas would not have a binding agent (oil) at that point. As for this truck, the EGR function has been shut off and a catch can has been installed, thus should have no issues with build up going forward. In terms of the larger cross sectional area noted in the video. I agree, there are "larger fish to fry" so to speak on this truck in terms of removing pumping losses in the intake system. A lot of improvement can be made in the intake box itself, the cold side pipe, and as you mentioned, the intercooler. On that note, the probe that protrudes into the intake just behind the throttle valve accounts for over 50% of the cross sectional area of the intake at that point. As such it hinders flow more than the aforementioned throttle valve. None the less removing pumping losses, however small, increases the efficiency of the whole intake system. The improvement is the sum of the reduction of pumping losses, however small they may be. I look forward to upgrading the hot and cold side piping in the future (holding out for some WCFab goodies) as well as turbo charger upgrades (Duramax Tuner stealth turbo in the works) so stay tuned for that. Thanks for taking the time to comment. ~ Hunter

@@HunterSkiff I'm waiting on a GM scan tool clone so I can remap my EGR. Hope to be able to retain shut off functionality and a little bit of EGR in cool temps. At how many KMs did your EGR get turned off? From what I've heard installing a catch can without disabling EGR results in less build up because of less attachment as you noted, however, now your engine is breathing in large amount of abrasive diesel soot. Personally I don't mind a bit of oil in my intake system, protects and lubes a bit. Oil is already getting combusted from the piston rings, etc. As soon as I 95% the EGR I'll take the throttle body off as see if she needs a clean but it's only got 65000km on it so we'll see. I agree it's an improvement but yeah probably reduces psi drop by about 0.05 psi which you would get from mild atmospheric/altitude changes. Intercooler upgrade would probably be on the order of 1-2 psi plus decreased intake temps hence the big increases in manifold air density. On my vehicle the intercooler piping, especially just before the throttle body is laughably restrictive.

the truck's first 25,000 km were emissions intact with EGR functioning as it came from GM. For the 50,000km since then the EGR valve has been closed entirely. I just installed a catch can this past weekend and cleaned the intake to the best of my ability. I will check it again in another 6 months, though I would expect it to be clean. The cold side pipe is an absolute JOKE. its kinked and crushed to fit around the battery and fuse box. Not to mention the plastic section is prone to cracking. There is a definite need for a high-flow pipe

catch can is not grabbing clean oil..... its grabbing the oil and soot... the soot is in the oil....

what is the benefit of getting rid of the air blade? also do you need an egr delet in order to do so?
@HunterSkiff
@HunterSkiff 3 года назад
Removing restrictions on the charged-air system will increase overall efficiency. You will not need to delete the EGR system, however, you will need to have the trucked re-tuned to account for removal of the air blade.
