Taemin is an amazing artist because he has his own concept, he always manages to maintain his identity as an artist no matter what kind of choreography he gets, if you put a blur on Taemin's face I'll still know it's him because the way he dances is very authentic

I couldn’t really pinpoint it, but when I watched it with you now I can clearly see certain amount of seductiveness in Taemin’s moves that I don’t see in Casper’s. For me Casper dances with huge power and typical male swag (basically like half of the industry from 3rd and 4th gen of Kpop). Taemin’s dancing, body lines and feeling is different and it’s exactly what makes him such a unique, one of a kind performer. He’s truly very androgynous in the way he’s dancing, sometimes emphasizing more masculine elements, but other times more feminine and it’s so satisfying to watch! I absolutely love his style of dancing.

I don't know many people don't like taemin's dance because he doesn't dance with energy They are accustomed to dancers who dance powerfully. taemin's dance is artistic definitely is not for everyone

@@mary-qu6iz Oh, quite the contrary, he dances with lots of energy. He just goes for different type of artistic expression - not the usual, hip hop-ish macho style - “look at me, I’m so masculine and sexy” kind of thing - and that’s exactly the beauty of his dancing. That’s what makes him stand out so much. Personally I don’t know anyone who doesn’t admire Taemin’s dancing, but for sure there are people who prefer different styles and it’s perfectly fine, cause art is subjective :)

As a singer, I would like to point out that singing while moving is definitely not easy. When you’re singing and dancing at the same time, there are definitely a different set of technique involved to ensure both are not overly compromised. Of course, the way a song and lyrics are phrased, etc. are also factors that helped to balance singing and dancing. In that area, I think SHINee has wonderfully pulled that off in balancing their vocals and dance. Just considering the fact that the torso and diaphragm plays a huge part in singing, it could be a possible reason for why a performer/singer does not lean as much as a choreographer/dancer does when they dance. Leaning too much could result in the diaphragm and lungs being pressed, affecting breath intake. And important technique in singing is definitely to keep your torso and back as straight as possible. We use more than just our jaws or throat to sing. The positioning of our arms, legs, neck and back all get involved in different aspects of singing. (Even sitting down itself requires slight fine tuning of the technique). The posture affects how the muscle is tense which in turns affect your vocal cords and diaphragm. To say the least. But it could also be that it was a stylistic choice for sure. And taemin’s artistry is just on a whole new level. He definitely has his own vibe to the music. Which is what makes him an incredible performer. In a certain way, I feel like he transcends and add more to the choreography with his own tiny differences. The switch between his subtlety and fast/powerful move is fascinating to me (me being not a pro in dancing at all). Like you said, the taemin-ism of it 😂 That’s not to say that Kasper is not good. He’s incredible for sure and to even come up with this dance, brilliant! But it’s the suave gracefulness of Taemin that gets me if that makes sense? Either way, Thank you for the reaction and analysis! It’s always interesting to hear such analysis! 😊

I think what makes this choreo looks so different when it's danced with these two 'teams' because it serve two different purposes. Then the contrast between the two becomes so much bigger cause of the artists' dance/performance skills and their authenticity/individuality. I don't know much abt Kasper being competitive dancer since he's eliminated in the first battle of Mbitious (dance competition TV show) showing that even a fantastic choreographer has difficulties in freestyling/dance battle, but that's not my point. It's more that as the choreographer and a great dancer he shows how the choreo is supposed to dance BUT in his style, the way how he dances, how dancers uh .. dance. Taemin has different approach for the choreo not only because of his own personal stylistic choice, but also coz he still need to sing the song. He has many things to consider and adjust. At least he has to be aware that he can't go full out with the power and speed, think abt angles, poses and facial expressions for cameras. That's why he doesn't squat very low, or lean more or reach more, coz he needs to make the choreo look bigger and more dramatic for the sake of performances. Combine all of this with taemin's unique way of dances, his authenticity, the artistic identity he has found for himself and his 14 yrs experiences of top performer, yeah no wonder we are all in awe

The thing is, Advice is one long physical FU, a long sneer, while Kasper is all front and swag. They both mean it, but the goals are diffrent.I love the choreo, love love loooove it.

I think the body types add to the differences, Casper is a big muscled guy and Taemin is very lithe. As always thanks for your reaction.

Continuing your metaphor(?) at 14:40 I feel like I like the way Taemin does it because while it's like Casper is effortlessly in control, Taemin is still in control but he has to suffer for it. I think that's in line with the story he has been trying to tell~

Advice was the first time Kasper did a choreo of a Taemin title track (without the help of another choreographer I mean, like with Criminal and IDEA) and it was Taemin's first time trying this style of dancing. Like you said, Taemin's type of moves and choreos are always more androgynous, smooth and with so much grace, that didn't fit with Kasper style of dancing. Still, Taemin did an amazing job taking the choreo a making it his own. It made the whole performance more enjoyable on my opinion.

Thank you for an excellent analysis and comparison, it was a fun and illuminating format you used, with both videos playing at once! This kind of analysis feels like it's great video to watch for dancers going from basic training into a more advanced, personal style. :)

Wonder why you chose to compare dance practice to live performance. Don't forget he's a singer before a dancer. Would've been much more interesting to compare both practice versions.

At the time when I recorded this the practice version wasnt available.
@Phloxnova

That was my issue as well. It's not a fair comparison whatsoever. In the future maybe they could wait till the performance/practice versions of the song come out. In the practice and performance Taemin hits this choreo 10 times harder.
