Nice to see a Jethro Tull reaction in a later period of the band. True love Jethro Tull. 🎸🎻🎤

Ian used to have an echo control box on the floor by his mic stand that he controlled with his foot. He would be able to accompany himself during a solo by playing around his own echoing notes. This was long before sampling so the echo faded as he played and he could add something else into the echo. An amazing effect.

Not sure if you're aware but Ian Anderson was in recent years diagnosed with C.O.P.D (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) which is an incurable lung disease which must affect his playing/singing these days, but he still manages to put on a good show.... love your reactions to Jethro Tull, it's interesting to hear you talk about Ians playing and I can see you're also amused by his showmanship.... really enjoyable Heline thank you.

He also had vocal fold nodules which combined with the COPD, made him "lose his voice" for a period. Thankfully, he has improved in recent years and can sing again, though not as robustly as he did in his younger years.

You should check out witches promise especially the intro... It's one of the very early singles Tull released way back in 69 or 1970. I still find it amazing and never get tired of hearing it

On the fingering, Anderson has stated that that he used the old "improper" fingering for almost 30 years until his daughter, who began studying the flute in school, came home and he learned that he had been doing it wrong for all that time. He took time off to learn the proper fingering and has used it ever since (ie, for the past 25 years).

only 2 days ago I sound engineered a band with a flute player who also sang through the same mic. At first I had problems getting his flute to come through enough because the volume level was different from his singing.

I love the combination of flute and mellotron keyboard at the beginning of this track. It's like a bird flying over a sinister landscape. I'd love to hear you react to my favourite of their songs "Reasons for Waiting", which uses two flutes harmonising.

Really cool to know classical musicians can appreciate Rock, and that you dig Mr. Anderson and his works. The music teacher we had back in HS ( a pianist, if I recall ) hated the genre, and always gave me the impression that classical/jazz folk look down on rock. The opening flute part... it has a 'sinister' tone to it, to my ears. Maybe a 'foreboding sound' would be better. Never would have reckoned a flute could express portents or feelings of an oncoming Evil, like seeing a thunderhead slowly creeping it's way towards you, smothering the sky in dark gray.
@HelineFay
@HelineFay Год назад
I think especially in older generations of teachers the classical "is the only right way" and that is quite sad. A lot of newly composed "classical" flute music has a lot of fun things like flutter, glissandos, whistles and what not written in them.

I agree, with time we hopefully sharpen our skills as musician...and If I lived in your neighborhood there`s no doubt I`d be calling for lessons...to have a secondary instrument say like alto sax perhaps...keep on rockin, Sugar

I saw Tull in the 80's and Ian started the show by doing this crazy high step running thing down the stairs along the side of the auditorium to the stage. While he was doing this crazy high stepping he was spinning his flute and for the life of me I don't know how he was doing it but it looked really cool. The lights went down and suddenly there he was lit up by a spot light and down the stairs he ran it was great.

Eu sou fã do Jethro Tull desde criança.

Unfortunately going through different versions spoils it to me and the reaction then wouldn't be a first time reaction. So I just trust with what people suggest and a trusted person usually checks if it's ok for the channel.
