For activating the "active ironing board". The one on the right makes the board "blow up" like an air bubble. Makes ironing things easier and you can actually often skip ironing the second side. I don't use the one on the left but all this must actually be in the manual / instructions. I absolutely hate ironing. But this machine has made my life so much easier that I actually do not mind doing it any more. It was expensive, hence I put off buying it for years - why spends lots on sthg you hate. But I do not regret spending the money - not one cent.
