In order to sell more on eBay you must have listings that stand out and that starts with having photos that catch the buyer's attention! eBay has recommended that we use a white background but taking photos on a white background isn't as easy as it sounds. A lot of photo apps out there can help with making your photos look professional BUT they take more time and can even cost you money! Your candle had a totally different color once on vivid. It went from bronze with some rosegold shimmer to normal bright gold. I would be a very dissatisfied customer! Such things matter.

eBay like 1:1 (square Format) pictures for listings, you can set that up on the phone while taking the photo so you don't have to go trying to crop it 1:1.

I had been using a light box for a few years and personally found that using PhotoRoom on my iPhone made it much easier than trying to get the right angle the perfect centering then having the tweak the brightness and honestly the app makes the pictures with a perfect white background instead of a close to white background. If time was the big concern the photos can be easily airdropped and then with the paid version of PhotoRoom you can do multiple photos at once. Best $5 a month I spend. In my opinion saves way more time that the method your suggesting. Not trying to slam or be negative just want to make sure new eBay resellers know of other options that doesn’t require expensive lighting photo box and camera options. Good videos and love the value you bring to RU-vid and the reselling community.

I have a corner with a photo cloth back drop for my mannequins and I hung a utility light with a hundred watt bulb shinning down from above to eliminate back shadows along with two lights (L & R) from the front.

Thanks Lindey! Always on lookout for more photo tips. Shadows bother me as well- I actually ended up pulling up my white light box background to more of a slope to get rid of that crease shadow. Used painters tape to secure it until I decided exactly where I wanted it then slapped on some tape on Velcro to background/light box (or I bet magnets would work too). Thought I’d share in case anyone else is fighting the good fight against shadows 😂. OH I also bought some additional light bars which are totally unnecessary lol I’m just sorta an artist also so I’m a little nut so about lighting 🤷🏻‍♀️

Lindey, thank you for showing how to take pics. I have trouble with the lighting also, so I will try your method. Sometimes when I want to make the item level, I will use an acrylic box to place my item on so it shows directly face to face.,

Hi Lindey! Thanks so much for the tips, they were super helpful. Do you have any recommendations for backdrops or tips for photographing larger items? I know you mostly sell small items the can easily fit in your lightbox, but I've been doing a mix of larger and small items. Most of the tricks I use for photographing the smaller items don't work as well for big things. Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated!

I've been using the eBay app exclusively to photograph and complete listings lately. My "photo studio" depends on the item I'm photographing, tbh. I have bright LED lights above the fireplace mantle and light gray walls. So that spot has been great (even though not white) for most things. I've honestly not noticed much of a difference in sell through rate based on background color. I just looked at some of my listings while you were talking, and I do need to go brighten some. Odd that they go darker when they're uploaded.

I dont use white background. I do autoparts and almost all of them are dirty even though we clean them. We use green turf and blue background. Definitely appealing to the eye. Has worked pretty good to me.

Hmm...I prefer using square mode to photog and I bring phone close to item and zoom very little once I’m close enough for a crisper pic! I like vivid mode too and then I use the little square that allows you to brighten the pic prior to taking the shot. Hope this helps someone.

Hi! Lindey I have a ? about close up shots. Sometimes I sell jeans. I hang them on a door to photograph. My issue is when I take a close up pic of the pockets or specialized hardware the color of the jeans look different than the real color of them. Example lighter blue in the close up. If I try to adjust, it’s difficult to get the exact color. What am I doing wrong? Than you for your channel. For a long time I wished I knew someone local or a friend that I could ask selling questions to, that also sells on ebay. But since I found your videos on RU-vid they have helped me tremendously! I don’t feel so alone in my selling journey. Thanks so much for your time and help! I really appreciate it!

Ebay photos are square but you don’t have to take them in square mode. Ebay will automatically fit it to square size by filling in empty space 😃

I just use regular but most phones have a setting for 1:1 photos which is square :)

I used to use the square feature on my camera but I found when I used them for adds they would zoom in too much and you don't have as much options for cropping

My older apt has horrible lighting. All of the light fixtures have a cream/yellow color. I’ve tried so hard to use a lamp and I get shadows 😫

That was my problem too but now I take my pics by a window with lots of sunlight. Also got a certain type of lightbulb (dont remember what kind) but similar to sunlight natural light is best

Do you have an iPhone? I don't have the vivid filter.. All my filters alter the color of my photo. I have a Samsung Note 9 but I'm about to upgrade. Any suggestions on which phone I should get? I don't like the iPhone but if it would help my business I guess I'd consider it 😊

I have purchased a light box you recommended. My cell phone is so old, I'm not able to upload photos from it. So, I use an actual cheap camera for photos. Down side is I have to take all photos, then download to my computer. After opening ebay, I have to select each individual picture that takes forever! ????? Do you know how to select several photos at once and download 2-3 pics instead of one at a time?? Thank you for all your great information and taking time to help us out!!

Usually hold down ctrl and select multiple. But its been so long since I've done ebay i don't remember. I have to upgrade my cell phone as well.

The exact one I purchased on ebay is not available anymore but the amazon link is extremely similar so you can use those specs to help pick. The one I used is a 20” box ☺️

It doesn't have a model no but it's listed on the Neewer website as Neewer Table Top Photo Studio Light Box Lighting Kit 4 Colors Backdrops I got the 50cm size for £45 on eBay brand new. They do have them on eBay UK and Amazon UK Not sure about US sites but Neewer do have 3 different sizes listed on their site.
