@@henryn5445 exactly. Then you don't have to worry about your sheet music or your music stand. You also can count and know when to come in if your playing with an orchestra, I would imagine. I know I was a vocalist, and while contemporary music is easier, I knew the lyrics and all of the verses of close to a thousand songs. It's easier to just memorize them than sightread lyrics, and of course you can't perform with sheet music at all as a vocalist.
@wmnoffaith1

@@IorekBear92 Well, I'm not going to argue with you about it. I'm sure different singing venues have different criteria, and sometimes the audience doesn't see you, or if you are singing while playing piano it would be easy. I could have used sheet music when recording in the studio, but I sang in choir, as a lead in theater, and with a microphone in front of a band, and in all of those places you really couldn't have a music stand or sheet music.

Because they are so casual and have a bunch of fun with playing music and running the channel, I sometimes forget that these guys are legit professionals and in no way are the pieces they play *easy.* This is one of the videos where all their hard work and experience really shine through. It's one of those things that looks like you can do it so you try it and you suck because of that difference in skill. I wish there was a second subscribe button :'(
@alyssarain00
@alyssarain00 4 года назад
@A.H Well I obviously know that they *are* professionals. I don't literally forget it and become surprised whenever they mention it. It's just that they don't show it off all the time. It's fun and casual and they don't constantly try to show off their skill just for the sake of showing off. This is one of their videos that show the more technical side of playing the violin and I just wanted to show my appreciation for their craft. As someone who doesn't play the violin or any other instrument, it's cool to see all that goes into playing the violin on a professional level and what that exactly means.

Just a note from one of your fellow Ling Ling wannabes. Let me throw things into perspective: I’m an introvert, I’ve got stress problems, and I’m always under pressure to be the next Ling Ling. I’m one of the newer fans; I only found you guys this year. But from the moment I started watching your videos, you guys have inspired me in ways that are more than just practice. You’ve taught me about commitment, and with the TwoSet fandom, I’ve found so many relatable things that I feel at home. 😊 Brett and Eddy, in my mind, you’ve gone from just two random peeps I watch to being my favorite senpais. You guys seriously are the best. Watching your videos makes me laugh like crazy, and in a way, it makes my anxiety issues melt away. i know right.. we enjoy their channel because they are 2 funny goofy violin nerdballs (which needs to be on a t-shirt) but often you get something like this which shows the reason they have a channel in the first place, that even people who have no idea of anything about music, like myself, can enjoy. You don't even need to understand what they are doing to enjoy the reactions.

As a classically trained tenor/baritone AND violist (our rep includes both the cello suites and the violin sonatas and partitas...), with the latter being my primary instrument, I'm inclined to say that as difficult as Bach can be as a vocalist, I would wager it's particularly moreso as an instrumentalist! While those capable of mastering either and taking it beyond the notes and into the realm of musicality are both worthy of significant amounts of respect... in my experience, it's more difficult on strings than on voice. Particularly when you consider pieces such as the Chaconne or Fugues on a supposedly "monophonic" instrument. Not to say that Bach isn't challenging as a vocalist, in the least! But Bach's work for solo strings is, at least to me, the epitome of overcoming technical prowess for the sake of musicality, and as such, is among the most difficult repetoire available for the instrument(s). The likes of Paganini or Reger only get you so far; you can express SO much more with Bach. Even despite the technical advancements of the aforementioned, where technical skill speaks for itself, Bach essentially requires you to say more than "just playing the notes", which is difficult enough in its own right, particularly with his unaccompanied works. There is no mastery; the closest you can get is figuring out how to convey your interpretation in a way that might be convincing.

@@exoticcats6119 Yes, like what Gavin Reid's said, it is an exam indeed, from England I believe. The exam tests us on pieces (Section A, B, and C. Each is from different periods. I think it's baroque/classic for A, romantic for B, modern for C. We get 3-5 options, so we choose one of each), scales, sight reading skills, and aural skills. So, an examiner from England comes to various countries, including mine. As a non-native and nervous-prone person, it was... a trauma (lol not really, but it's not fond memories).
