Professor Bjarne Stroustrup, G75, Honorary Fellow of Churchill College and creator of C++, gave a fascinating insight into the creation and development of a programming language to Churchill alumni at the 2019 Association Weekend.
I love listening to him talking about stuff like "You want linear algebra? Build your own matrix class." because that's exactly what I've been doing for the past couple of weeks.
Although I never used Java... I believe in you. After 5 years with C++.... yeah it really feels like it is getting in your way to actually achieve any real work.
That doesn't even mean anything. C++ balances improving a language and maintaining backwards compatibility, which is something Bjarne talked about. More than anyone Bjarne has kept that mindset alive in the evolution of C++. You just sound like someone with sourgrapes, who couldn't hack it in the world of C++.
It was first called C with Classes, and as it grew out of that, it became C++. No one claimed it was an entirely new language made completely from scratch.
