"When the music stopped and when we got off the mic we were able to articulate what we were talking about." 💯❗ Don't even bother asking any of these mumble rappers about anything not related to partying or disgraceful behavior or you will hear something outlandishly stupid in 10 seconds.
Not just mumble rappers even some lyrical rappers who spit about crazy shit like cannibalism, glorifying suicide and killing theirs moms and baby mama.what professor Griff meant hiphop lost soul because it has been infiltrated by outsiders who dont know the rules of hiphop or dont care about hiphop they just spit anything just because it rhymes (white rappers got no soul)
Eince Prodgy Okay but Eminem (I know you’re using him as an example) is not really an outsider. He “gets” it. He can explain and has done so, about the lyrics he spits and where it is coming from. That’s an artist. If something is really affecting your life, you vocalize it and tell your story without necessarily advertising negativity. But I get what you are saying. But hip hop is not a matter of skin color. If it was, there wouldn’t be so many using it to, or allowing themselves to be used for, giving the lowest aspects of our culture maximum exposure. For example, not all of us need to know anything about strip clubs or moving bricks. And we REALLY don’t need the rest of the planet to think all of us already do, thank you very much! That’s not art or HIP HIP.
@@need-to-know- hiphop is black music period and all people of other race are guest and why is it a problem everytime black people claim anything for themselves everybody comes in wanting the piece of it when everybody exclusionary us in their shit but we are have always been inclusionary of everybody. I don't want history lesson from white person about my culture yess are right hip-hop aint about color but hip-hop is our birth right and im thankful some of our brothers (snoop and royce da 5'9)are starting to wake up and speaking up what's funny white people are mad at these brothers for speaking their mind by calling them racist mmh "white people calling black people racist" really??? fuck outta here thats just proves every time when white privilege comes into question in hip-hop white supremacy comes for the rescue never in my life I've ever consider eminem to be a pure hiphop finest sorry eminem aint a real hiphop artist he's just a rap artist let's me no be biased eminem is top 5 rap lyricist of all time but he aint top5 greatest rapper of all time period just cause eminem sold more or spit fast doesn't mean is the greatest of the greatest his shit lack soul and knowledge.
If you read this sir...i'd love to hear a response from you. I just took a Hip Hop history class and saw the urban sprawl in S. Bronx during the 70's and saw how the crack epidemic destroyed our communities. Should we blame todays rappers or the system we live in? Its easier to blame the kids today because their has been no accountability from the system...
I think its important to note that Hip Hop came out of a bad place: gangs in new york, urban sprawl of the 70's in the Bronx, police brutality, drugs etc....kids like the music BUT doesnt mean that want the life ( drug selling, police, projects, the hood)...those are depressed environments. The best part of Hip Hop was "conscious rap" Public Enemy but times have changed. Remember, gangster rap changed that. Noone wanted the violence associated with them. Chuck D produced Ice Cubes first album...so yes, it evolved from the 70's, 80's, 90' to now...its more today about social media and display. Maybe rap its at its final stages. The "ghetto" has been heard...people know where rap came from...people using their art to express what they were going through in the inner city. Public Enemy made it mainstream and it evolved. Isnt that what we wanted? Awareness to police brutality, drugs being put in poor enviroments and destroying dreams, violence etc???
The reason why they can't follow in the footsteps of Public Enemy krs-1 is because the torch is too big for the rap artists of today they don't know about the high infinite power. they don't know how to handle that. Trust me there's going to be someone who's going to step up to the plate. And I'm looking for that hip hop artist that can do it
“When the last time y’all went to a party and actually danced with a woman? Mfs are dancing with themselves now”- Prof Griff...........🤣 he’s definitely not lying, got niggas in the VIP section poppin bottles while the broads on the floor dancing with each other
Keep in mind the purpose of hip hop was to give path to individual expression in a time of collective control and oppression. When you try to make hip hop another group collective that must monitored and policed then it’s YOU who is actually betraying hip hop. What benefit does anyone gain by belittling and dehumanizing “mumble rappers”? You’re not acting as an individual, but an enforcer. Let them be. Listen to what uplifts you and leave the rest to god.
WHEN BLACK PEOPLE GON WAKE UP TAKIN TO LONG 60 70 YEARS TO EVEN COME TOGETHER DANM THE RAP TURNED FOR THE WORSE THE WRONG MESSAGE BEING PUT OUT THER WHEN WE GON WAKE UP STARING TO FEEL LIKE YALL SLO WTF
Wild Wild One did i tear a brother down or did i knock down false narratives put out by the cia? If you only knew the truth. Our brother malcolm x was killed by black men. Black is not the thing to be. If anything use your crucial thinking and stop being brainwashed
Love listening to Professor Griff! On point as usual. Calling out these young and dumb, effeminate, drug addicts, who mumble empty words with no real meaning. Public Enemy is STILL better and more relevant than ALL these other guys out today. I met Griff in 2012 in Bmore at an event he was speaking on with Bro. Johnson. Humble, strong guy. Articulate and can make you pay attention and think. Much love and respect to you, Professor Griff.
Lol, you obviously havent heard real new music. Old hip hop is just about gang members and drugs just like it still is nowadays. Don't pretend like your generation was on some whole other level of being deep... You're discounting tons of young artists who pour their souls out onto the music every day now.
6:29 Cause as soon as it rains u going right back 2 Africa 🤣🤣 so in other words, the females need to just keep it real with themselves and wear there natural hair and learn to look in the mirror and say I love YOU 😍😘😘😅
Well the men have to lead them down a better path. Lil Kim didn't start off rapping overly sexual, it was a big who made her change a style up. So everybody pretty much following that blueprint from Nicki, cardi, and Megan.
Conscious rap ,underground hip hop is what I was brought up on and that's the only rap I will ever listen to: Wu Tang, Public enemy, Del La Soul, The Beatnuts, The Roots,Jeru Tha Damaja, Company Flow,Aesop Rock, Cannibal Ox,Onyx and the list goes on. Who ever is down with this shit hit like.
These new so called Hip Hop Artists are just mumble rappers & I don’t support that trash because they aren’t rapping about anything. We need REAL MC’S not what we have now.💪🏾
Peace God, CHI here, i agree with You .CANIBUS, KRINO, SA-ROC, just to name a few ARTISTS is what Our Youth need to Listen to. We have to teach them. RECLAIM OUR HIP-HOP CULTURE. NOW
It's been a long time since I've heard Prof Griff talk ... talk about real. All of us need to be raising the consciousness. Thank God we have individuals like him to reach independents. This is what schooled & began lifting the veil for me. It feels good to hear again ~
You can’t completely blame the youngest, Many of their Pops bounced , so they didn’t get the complete guidance they needed, thus vulnerable to exploitation 🙏🏾
We need u on a bigger platform brother. At Ieast I DO... I'm so tired of seeing my black women degrade my race with overtly sexual and prostitutial displays..
"Listen to their interviews. The ones they mumble through," Griff speaks bluntly and truthfully about this dumbed-down, self-degrading, and little to no brain cells having generation. Tough love is what they need, and also a lot of "shaking 'em up, " as rapper Rakim said in his song Know the Ledge. They also need to "wake the blank up or get broke the blank up," as the rap group Killarmy says in their song Wake up.
Griff, we have to take our power back. Sacrifices shall be made but sometimes a half mantled ruin can still be restructured into a dynasty. Im with ya griff.
Peace Village, This is How HIP-HOP Sounds!! Knowledge Reigns Supreme!! Thanks to Professor Griff. True HIP-HOP Heads the Movement is "The Return of HIP-HOP Culture" Fuck the Industry Pimps who is Fuck HIP-HOP Culture and the Artists then LAUGH, LAUGH,LAUGH....Peace Village (Chi Channel YT)
@9:25 'Why do artists have to sell out, in order to SELL OUT ? If you're gonna change the people around you, then CHANGE the people around you'- Chuck D. via Professor Griff. #HigherInfinitePower #HealingOurPeople
If you ignore the core aspects of a thing it's bound to become a faint shadow of itself sooner are later, for hip-hop it'll loose it's core strength look at what's being aloud today.
There is break dancing and bboyin and bgirlin you just not looking hard enough I dj every friday for bboys and bgirls out here in west palm beach at a place called the catalyst.they have breakdance competitions nationally and internationally you can google this actual facts ,you just not looking or care to look ,just because you are not doing it or it is not right there in your face does not mean it does not exist, everybody is caught up into club dancing trap music etc.etc.
love the message. yes, silence does not always mean killing them, putting one in jail. It can be getting into the wrong relationship at the wrong time.
Can it be a generation thing? I know a bit about the Hip-Hop history, and I'm not even from the USA. Genes flow around, and have done so throughout human history. No one is 100% black or white.
But Chuck D just fired FLAVOR FLAV FOR BERNIE SANDERS THOUGH. THATS FUCKED UP TO. I THINK CHUCK D JUST TURNED HIS BACK ON US. HOW GON FIRE FLAV?. Gtfoh....
I hear what your saying Griff...I am of that age BUT today's kids want what we were trying to have: peace. They dont want to live in the hood, they dont want the problems associated with that life. And yes...that life was created for blacks and latino's in inner city. We didnt ask for it...our country forced it on us. We shouldnt get made if they just want to get paid and enjoy life...after all isnt that what we wanted for them?
Hip-hop is the culture and art. Rap is just a entertainment musical genre. There is a difference. Some white writer from a Rolling Stone magazine probably named it "rap". Just like the so-called grunge artists never called themselves grunge, it was given to them by a writer. They always got a label it.
ahhh man i didnt see it the interview.....yo griff you too fucking right ...exactly what im sayin since 2000....and im a white canadian french dude triple o.g 44 ...they not rep hip hop since 2000
You know I always hear artists talk about how listening to gansta rap or heavy metal cannot influence anybody to commit suicide or to commit murder, but I disagree, how many times have you heard somebody say this song, this film, this tv show or this actor inspired me to become who I am today, or this song, this film, this tv show or this actor got me through some really tough times, well what about when the opposite is true, why is that any different than when a mass school shooter confesses that a certain song or film inspired them to do what they did? or a kid becoming a gang member because he wants to be just like his favorite rap artist, I believe that new generations are going to be more screwed because of the glorification of bad behavior in music, not just gansta rap, take tik tok for example, young girls acting like strippers on camera, where did they learn that behavior, tv, films & music videos, people copy what they see & hear because popular culture influences their minds.
