This is (in my humble opinion) the saddest scene, but also one of my favorites because it's so touching.

im 11 i hardly ever cry at films and games but i cried for days about this...im still crying

When does Layton ever take off his hat? Never. Except for this cut scene, of course.

Claire: Over time, we separate, don't we, Hershel. I have to go back... back to that day when I left you. Prof. Layton:Claire Claire:I'm sorry, Hershel. Prof. Layton:Claire! Claire:It looks like the hour's eventually come. It was nice to see you again. It suddenly all over. My last time travel. Layton: I-- Until now, I... I was yours the whole time! Claire:I know. And I was yours. Everyone knows that, my dependable English gentleman. Claire: Goodbye... Hershel Layton. Thank you!

T.T My heart goes out for the Professor in this scene. I breaks my heart EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! D: I literally CRIED at the end of this game, all because of THIS. To see the kind-hearted gentleman we all know and love reduced to tears...it just breaks my heart...so much...

It's amazing how sad this is and how much love is between those two, even when Claire never actually says "I love you..."

Throughout all 3 games Layton showed us that no matter what situation that he always remains dignified. Yet this is the first time you truly seem him break out from his logical green side to a feeling blue side. Which really only makes this only sadder. I cried when I saw this scene after finishing the game.

This scene nearly made me cry... :'( It is proper to take your hat off when someone dies. Even though when he said that it is ungentlemanly to make a scene in public, he has to do that. After all he is a gentleman and a human too...

I've been looking forward to see whats under that hat..but when it came down to it it was bitter sweet and i cried. ;-;

I cried at this scene I count believe he took his hat off! A true gentleman never does that T.T i cant stop crying!!!

@Awsome3709 I don't think he could. Think of it this way: Claire died in the past. The past already happened. So even if Layton ever had the chance to build a time machine, he could just witness her death without being able to change anything. After all, her death alreardy happened. I mean, if he had the ability to save her, he would create the paradox of having no reason to build a time machine in the present. Thats also why Dimitri wouldn't be able to save her.

Layton's never looked so sad. Most of the time in the game he's so confident.

Love: A puzzle even Layton can't solve

Oooooh my...Layton got a kiss?! It's so ROMANTIC! I hope in the future they make another game with Layton and claire!

@5ilverhalo I think Claire would've been a perfect match for him. D: I cried at the end and even said, "Whyyy Claire!? You're dead in the past! if you live in the future, you still disappear from the past! D: It's okay!" If only :(

I'm already sobbing so much..the first time I saw this part in the game I cried for days. Both the English and Japanese dialogues are good, but I think the Japanese is sadder and more emotional. I love the professor Layton series!

@Awsome3709 That's impossible. He couldn't change the past by going back in time. That was mentioned in the game, not just by the Professor but also by Claire. As she said, nobody could/should save the dead from their fate. "The flow of time must remain linear."

my advice is to use camtasia studio. the video quality is certainly better. and the sound is not that bad

@caricodiethel My thoughts exactly. :) Layton's lines in the American version were a lot more tear-jerking than in this version, which was already tear-jerking enough! It was interesting to see Layton break down like that. It says a lot about his character, I think, although I'm not quite sure what. xD

why did claire start glowing at 0:50? I think it may be that she was never real to begin with, she is from another time than layton is, or she died and is now a spirit or something. Someone please tell me! I don't know Japanese and it would really help!!

I went to Wikipedia and, using the Romaji table, I was able to translate a sentance. At (0:22), Claire says "Gomenasai Erusharu", which means "I'm sorry Professor". I'm almost certain that I'm right, but I may be wrong. If so, forgive me.

i like the japanese version more, because it uses the vocal version of Time Travel.

I wish someone would sub this, I can understand the basic stuff but I want to know exactly what they say. In each version Claire's last words tie in with the game title, which is an idea I love XD So I really want to know how they did it in the original :D US: We had so many plans for the future, do you remember Hershel? I'll miss you ... and our unwound future. UK: We had so many plans for the future, you won't forget will you? Our shared past... and our lost future. Clever eh? :D

What's up with people just atomically thinking that "Oh if it's the English it's not sad." honestly i find the English version sadder the only thing that makes the Japanese version just a bit sadder is the singing instead of instruments (in the credit song.)

the thing tht makes it so sad is professor layton. he's always so calm and rarely ever crys,but here he's freaking out.poor professor. they should make a game where claire comes back because the professor actually goes back in time nd stops all that from happening.
