Words can't describe how happy I would be to see Layton in a Smash. Taunts: "I fear you are very outclassed" "Intriguing" "A gentleman never flees a fight" " Final smash: Something like the 3 frames that show up when you submit a puzzle, and then damage to all players on screen. Assorted other attacks since swords are over done: The Latonmobile, perhaps the occasional fencing move, throwing coins or picarats

Why doesn't Level 5 put Layton in smash? I mean, he can fight! Unlike a certain blue suit wearing attorney I know... *looks at Phoenix* But really! His arena would be Future London, or an airship. He can throw picarats or puzzle peices! I AM NOT the only one who agrees with this! ... Right?

Colonel: He may be intelligent, but he's also got some experience in fencing, and he's been able to make a Slot Machine into a Machine Gun. Snake: That is impressive. Colonel: Watch Your Back Snake.

The next Smash Bros game just NEEDS to have Phoenix Wright and Professor Layton :3

His final smash should be like this. Prof. Layton: "This reminds me of a puzzle..." *A puzzle forms around the opponent and he tries to solve it to escape but messes up *Prof. Layton turns his back to the opponent Dr. Strange style:"Incorrect." or "Disappointing." *Puzzle proceeds to either close in and squish the opponent or explodes.

I don't know why but I randomly think of this being called 'A Gentleman's Fighting Spirit'

Now Listen, I'm not saying I'd want the Professor to have this theme if he ever DID make it to smash bros, but I AM saying I sure wouldn't mind this popping up as a song

In all seriousness, Layton would be an awesome addition to smash. He’d Probably be the ultimate glass canon but it would still awesome. His jab would probably be your average three hit jab, would probably be two stabs forward with a fencing sword then an overhead slash. Mashing could lead to a flurry of blows that would launch the opponent a short distance. The overhead slash would probably have a chance of burying opponents. His dash could be a lunge of shorts. Pretty low damage but pretty quick to compensate. Side neutral would probably be a picarat toss. Simple projectile that bounces a couple times and then disappears. Up neutral would be a hat toss. Just throwing his hat into the air. Down neutral could be a picarat shield. Similar to the leaf shield from mega man 2 of all things. I’ll do the rest later

lol for those few people that say Layton wouldn't fit in a fighting game, DUDE! Phoenix was in mavel vs capcom and he has no fighting skill whatsoever and I don't really think his personality would allow him to fight against Hulk or anyone else for that matter. The professor, even as a gentelman, has fought multiple times before and has some mad fencing and acrobatic skills. I don't want to spoil for the ones that don't know yet, but he fights (and wins like a badass) in 4 games and the movie.

Regrettably, in the pursuit of unravelling this intricate puzzle, I found it necessary to take decisive action against a particularly obstructive individual.

Sometimes I dream about Layton arrival in Smash Bros. Series... there is this opening with the Smash symbol and then Layton's theme begins and then the cameras slowly moving approching him and then BAM! Layton looks at the camera with the message appering: "Layton puzzles in the Battle!" LOL

With a fifth character still unknown and a second wave of DLC incoming my hopes have been restored! Bring on the gentleman!

Power and duration of fire depends on how many hint coins you find in your opponents with neutral b. Down B: Wind-up contraption/gizmo. Cycles through different ones kind of like Peach's forward smash cycles through objects. Recovery: Layton takes off his hat to reveal a propeller contraption. Floats upward. Forward Smash: Objection-esque point!!! Layton shouts something like, "And the culprit is you!" or "It is you!" UpSmash: A big, red *!* appears above his head. Layton puts a finger in the air sometimes saying "this reminds me of a puzzle." DownSmash: Luke pops up from behind professor's legs in front of him shouting "Professor!" Neutral A: A firm poke or button-pressing motion DownTilt: Adjusts his shoes Uptilt: Adjusts his tophat or just pops it up real quick FTilt: Pokes the ground curiously Nair: a flying, but weak kick Up air: Layton throws his hands up in the air Dair: Layton's body stiffens up as he puts his hand to his chin, pondering a puzzle. This sends his legs downward, and it acts as a dunk Bair: a back kick Final Smash: The entire screen becomes a LAyton puzzle. Fighters continue fighting, but a select arrow is placed on one of the fighters randomly. It changes randomly too until an offscreen timer is up. After that, the submit button is hit and the fighting is stopped to go to a cutscene where Layton's signature three-step "Hmmm is this right...YES!" thing plays. And the selected player gets sent flying as all of the awarded picarats overlay on the screen. Taunts: Drinking a cup of tea "Every puzzle has an answer" "Like a true gentleman!"

Love how everyone is commenting "this reminds me of a puzzle" , while forgetting that Layton is a master fencer in his own right. Surely that's a more appropriate character trait to zero in on for this piece

it could also be that the gamepad shows a puzzle at the moment he activates the final smash, for the puzzle you'll have around 10 sec. you can't be moved but you can take damage from other players. after the puzzle is solved, he kicks everyone ofscreen, it's kinda fair as the others have a 10 sec sandbag.
