I'm surprised nobody seems to have come out with a relatively inexpensive bike with digital magnetic resistance and the ability to do simple programs (such as HIIT, and HR-based programs) without a subscription.
@@TailHappyTV Thanks, that's good to know. Looked to me like one has to choose between knobs, fall-back controls like ProForm, or a subscription. I found your video because I was wondering if the ProForm would work satisfactorily for HIIT and/or HR-based without subscription. Maybe there are some search terms I could have used? I did see someone else comment on the Schwinn A10. I'm looking into that and/or similar bikes.
I bought my bike used, so It didn't come with manual. I've been ridding for a few weeks , it feels good even though I'm weighing in at 400. It doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart. I think I will get much use out of it now thanks for your videos
I have that bike. Weigh 240 lbs. Weak knees. Level 16 resitance is plenty for me. I like the smooth quiet operation. When pairing the bike you must make sure that your not pedaling it. It won't pair if you do. I had to call support to figure out why I couldn't pair. If you need more than level 16, Costco also sells an up version of this that goes to level 22 and costs $999.
Thanks so much for this video it is very helpful. I have been trying to figure out how to be able to raise the resistance level in IFit when the tablet is sitting over the manual resistance buttons on the Pro Form Tour de France. You figured it out in your video. Also that you showed that you can override the resistance levels the instructor has preset in the video. Very important, because of all the different levels of riders using this. Thanks!
I bought this bike after viewing this review along with some other clips. After a few rides, I soon realised this annoying iFit low resistance bug - a lot of the workout has a resistance of 1-3 which is a joke, or max 7 resistance for the most intensive workout. I am fairly confident this was a iFit program issue where the resistance has not been calibrated properly for this bike as the bike’s max resistance is 16. I am gutted that I did not see those discussions before my purchase and have not seen any RU-vid video highlighting such an annoying bug which greatly reduce the usability of this bike. Although in theory this can be addressed by a software update fairly easily, there have been several months since people reported this issue to iFit and proform. So my hope for a quick fix is not high. Again, this is really annoying and disappointing for an otherwise excellent bike.
Hello, I'm just wondering if there are any improvements to the low resistance problem. i agree reading the reviews that this seems to be a major issue that significantly impacts compatibility with the auto-adjust resistance features in ifit app. It would be great to hear if the issue has been addressed?
Thanks for this video too after the assembly video. Just purchased; appears the settings and functions will work just for what I'm looking for. Appreciate your commentary on how IFit works too.
I just bought this used. It only goes up to resistance 16, is that accurate? If I try to go higher, the screen says “CHO”. Maybe the resistance level is why the person sold it to me… great video btw.
I just bought and set up the bike yesterday- I too struggled woth the idea of the tablet being in the way if I wanted to control resistance- and voila! You figured it out - I am happy! Plus, I dont have to wait for 12 weeks to get a peloton!!!
AND you don't have to come up with another $2000 as well. So much motivation with the interplay with a trainer verse the simple monochrome screen. Of course, you need an iPad to access the Pro Form App which is an extra cost IF you don't have the iPad.
I am new to indoor cycling and I am looking at buying a bike under $600. I think your reviews are awesome. I am so glad I found you. Can you give me a recommendation? I am 6’ 225 lbs and I am pretty much a beginner but like the idea of using my iPad. Any help is much appreciated . Glad I found your channel. Keep up the awesome videos
Glad to help! Watch my next video, i think it will be a relevant comparison for you! there are a lot of great options and its hard to tell you which is best for you. You may like the echelon connect, which i have videos on that bike as well. the Sunny bike does have better max resistance however, which may be better suited for you.
Good review. I unfortunately couldn't get to a class, did one track course through the app then the console has not turned on. I'm not sure if this is because I tried to update the console through the app, but I checked all wiring and batteries and am now going to return this...
A fair review for the first look. Re changing the resistance, in. a bike ride there is a scale from 1-16. Move the slider to whatever resistance you want. An unanswered question is if I'm on a ride and the resistance is say 4 and manually moved it to 8 with the slider, and then the ride called for the resistance to be say 3, would it then auto move the resistance down one unit to 7 or would it auto move to 3 as per the program?
Great video thanks for this! I know the live class didn’t have music did the other classes have music? Lol I know it’s not a big thing just the music pumps me up a little more possibly buying this now haha but thanks for such a detailed review!
Love the vid! Really helped me narrowed down my purchase as a first time rider. Picked up my ProForm Tour de France today and we love it! Question, which tablet are you using? Thx
Thank you so much! I needed this. I already have the ProForm. I just got it. I’m a beginner so I will use the ProForm bike till I max out. Then I will get a Peloton.
Thanks Michael! Have you ever tried a class in a studio, I was a skeptic at first myself, but I have to admit I like it more than I thought I would even though I still do love my regular outdoor rides along the beach path in LA, however it's starting to get chilly lately
@@charlesgarrity3059 I dont have that specific rule but makes a lot of sense. Blocking the cold wind from my ears and face makes a huge difference, and also sunny vs overcast. Big part of why I moved to socal from midwest :)
Thanks for the videos. Bought the cycle, made the max resistance mod, and am very happy with it. I'm not happy with some of the metrics from the app. The calorie burn is not even close. I've attached a cadence sensor and speed sensor and used the speed from the app to calibrate the setting for my speed sensor. Do you know how accurate the speed is in the app?
@@TailHappyTV - you’re right - it is the CLC - they have a $1000 bike too - I have the Peloton + which I’m very happy with - but I still like watching your reviews !
Thanks for the review :) I just ordered the same in Australia! Do you know please if you don't want to continue the membership after a year, can you use Ifit in a free manual mode to control the resistance ? Thanks!
There is a hack here on RU-vid to increase resistance, it doesn't change it a ton but it does help if you're not satisfied with the resistance. It's I minor mechanical adjustment.
I bought the proform sport CX bike from sams club for $399 a few weeks ago and love it! I’m glad I watched your video because I didn’t know I could do the resistance on the tablet so that’s cool! But these bikes are awesome for the price. I’ve never tried spinning or biking like this so it’s all new to me but I love it!
Can you do a ride that’s not a class?? Where you just get on and paddle and do everything manually. If so, and your just hell bent on using the Peloton App you can split screen it with the iPad. Have 2/3 screen Peloton app and 1/3 iFit which should be enough to move the resistance slider.
I can't adjust de proform automatic resistance manually, does it could be that the panel is damage or there is anoche way to adjust it manually, that I don't have to use de panel?
Some do have some music but it's not popular music like you'll experience on peloton. Our iPad is 12.9 inches, it's a few years old model, I think I have a link to it and other stuff we use on my Echelon review ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mGli1yXVC7c.html
It has music on both, you can control if you want to hear music or just the instructor or both. He didn't figure this out on the video. But that is a cool feature on the app.
Will this connect to anything else like zwift for instance? How is it sending the data to the app? I guess it’s Bluetooth but wonder if it’s sending separate data channels for cadence and speed etc.
lol wow! awesome idea Scott! I mean, i feel like this would work in theory? I might need to give it a try. Also, I've heard it may be possible to adjust the calibration on the bike to get the magnets to go closer to the flywheel thus making max resistance stronger, however I have not had a chance to do this yet but plan on it.
@@TailHappyTV Actually you might be able to just drop a few rare earth magnets on top of the black bar that's holding the existing magnets, to increase the overall field strength. Should be a quick test and wouldn't even require gluing.
The auto resistance definitely works smoothly, it doesn't adjust as quickly as the peloton bike+, i dont think the max resistance is as much as other bikes at this price point, and no where near as much as the peloton
this is the #1 best seller on amazon: amzn.to/36WNdai please watch my fav bike seat video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ugOrCIzrpjk.html i share a lot of insight on saddles here, i've tried A LOT of bike seats over the years and for years i thought a squishy, or a wider seat was the solution, and while a squishy seat can provide temporary relief from pain, i really dont think its the long term answer. hope this helps, happy riding!
Only difference is the tablet holder on the CBC and none on the CLC. The front wheels to move it around is bigger on the CLC, like inline skate wheels. But other than that they are identical.
I think it's the same app yes, I noticed the instructors were on their more expensive bike. I was impressed with the resistance automatically adjusting in live rides as well as normal rides, especially on such an inexpensive bike. I need to double check scenic rides, but I did do a hill climb ride which was kind of neat to feel like I was actually outside riding with another person.
@@TailHappyTV thank you for replying. Your impressions so far are really helpful. If you could check on the scenic rides, I’d appreciate it. Not much of a class/leaderboard guy but sounds fun to ride for an hour virtually in another country/geographic area.
@@MarkK2222 I have a Proform treadmill and rower with the iFit app. On the tread I only do the recorded/ scenic trips. Walk,Hikes,Runs- it's awesome. The trainers also share a little knowledge of the countries you are in etc. hope that helps
There are pedal blocks that you can purchase and add to the pedals, but it looks like the L shaped seat post is probably standard old school BMX 7/8ths diameter tube. You could replace the L shaped post with a straight post and cut it to an appropriate size. When you go to put the seat on, it will point at the floor, but you just loosen it up and rotate back into position, then tighten it down. You can probably get the seat an inch or two lower and can adjust the reach via the length of the tube. It’s not a one banana modification, but if you have wrenches, a drill, a saw and an hour, it could be done. If you do this, pay attention to the new post and watch for bending. Also, it will probably break your warranty. Because lawyers.
Of course, but none of the metrics will be recorded, you just go full screen and pedal at your own pace. I just bought one of these for Christmas. It's freaking awesome.
Does anyone know if there are any Ifit rides that actually go over resistance level 7? I mean I'm a middle aged overweight man and these level 4 resistance rides are a joke. I can't even get my heart rate over 100 with them. This bike is awesome for the price imo, but it won't work for me if I feel like I'm out for a leisurely ride around a flat lake while my trainer is going up a mountain.
This is a major flaw in this app/bike combination. It should be the first thing written in any review. The answer to your question is NO. The app doesn't send the correct data for this bike so max is 6 or 7. You will have to increase the resistance about that manually.
Daniel Summerhays that worked for me I left the batteries in. I un plugged it waited about 10 seconds or so and replugged it and made sure the connection was right hopped on it and it started to adjust to 1. We rode like 3 days at max and we were like there is no way this is right!
You must bring your own screen, so as long as your device can do that yes. If you're taking about the mini screen that comes on the bike, no that doesn't project anywhere.
