....Matt, stick with building an audience, don’t do memberships, have a tip jar for live streams if required. If you can, don’t swamp audience with pop-in ads on pre-recorded. Have a low cost Patreon of £1 per month (more folks will sign up for that rate). Produce less content at higher quality, which will be more than enough workload when you can’t or don’t want to do it. Don’t e-beg, your core viewers are most likely in the same position as you. Always stay happy, don’t burn-out in the edit, form a time/content template for fast turnaround.

@@DaraM73 it should obviously depend on the length of the video. i'm okay with middle roll ads for say upwards of 10-15 minute videos (so not less than 5 minutes between them), in the name of supporting the creator, but on any length video (think upwards of 1 hour) more than 2 or 3 middle ads gets annoying. edit: i am very new to the channel, just watched some more videos and i can now agree, there are way too many ads.

I agree with the name change. You’ve helped me (as a hobby in addition to being a singer/musician kinda having to do everything myself no band or engineer). You’ve helped me bridge some 20-30 year gaps .. each video takes what I already know and helps me take it to another level. Without your clear and concise way of training I’d still be stuck. I have a moog tribute 37 .. I mostly got it to mimic Stevie Wonder styled bass. But honestly don’t use it as much as I should in sound design. I tweak every aspect of my sounds and the reward comes learning along the way. As far as you doing a membership.. I’d follow whatever you would choose. I don’t get ads because I use premium. Anyways absolutely love your content and the humility you express despite your legendary career. I reached out to Stu Zender in my 20s as an young artist and he too was so supportive and humble ... you all are my mentors from afar ... ya soul brutha H3

On the full takeover ads, if you hold down cmd and R (refresh) the page keeps refreshing and eventually the page gives up calling the ad servers but still decides to deliver the video. You might have to remember where you are in the video and you still get banner ads and still waste a few seconds of your life but at least nobody's advertising at you! It works a charm when clips start with an ad, and it's just really satisfying to defeat the algorithms.

The ads don't bother me. I love this kind of educational stuff; it's really helping me think about my own patching/programming/playing. EDIT: I even love that the minimoog is acting up and not working properly--a nice "hey this is how it really is with vintage gear" moment.
@sibbyeskie

The Minimoog has this midrange suppression in tandem with distortion that nobody seems to be able to fully recreate. I find my Behringer Model D tends to lose a lot of tonal character when driving the mixer, while the Poly D has lots of character but doesn't get as much drive. The Mini here just immediately gets into that sweetspot. What a sound!

It's probably the only channel I am following where I would be ready to pay a certain amount, as already just watching Matt's content gets me in a good mood instantly (let alone trying the stuff afterwards). On the other hand: we are all used to ads when watching ANYTHING on RU-vid - I am not bothered by that. Not knowing anything about that business I have no idea what is helping Matt more, though - a bigger number of subscribers + ads, or a smaller number of Patreons...

Was so looking forward to that after searching you last week's video for the instructions :) Happens. I tried to recreate that with the Sub37. Lowest octave 16' but the Sub1 oscillator and Feedback knob helped to get it punchy in the low end. Thanks for walking it through! Now I'll get back to last week's video to practice playing it. Keep on!

Hi Matt THANKS A LOT for sharing your knowledge, you brought precious content. Advertising is bearable, but i'll understand if you membership. I allow myself to share a tip for NI's Monark users in order to have that legato playing: - do exactly what Matt says, - then click on the B section just above the "Monark" brand on the upper left of the vst's skin (loaded in reaktor). - The back of the vst appears. - then click "never" on enveloppe retrig and "last" on priority in Keyboard Legato section. - And Boom you have that nice legato sound. - Enjoy !!! Thanks again Matt

I noticed in the last video you didn't show how to program it, so I was attempting to recreate it (on my Arturia Matrixbrute, by running it just through the 24db moog style ladder filter) and got pretty close, but couldn't figure out what was different tonally... I used sawtooth, and once I switched over to pulse and went through the pulse waves got it. All these years I've mainly used sawtooth on bass sounds and tending to only use pulse when doing PWM style sounds, but now I see I've been missing out. Thank you! One nice thing to do on the Matrixbrute (or in VST emulations of the minimoog) is to apply velocity to filter envelope, so you can expressively control how much that attack punch comes in with your finger.

Those of us who know Jamiroquai, but not the names of the Band members, probably found this channel just because of its name. I know I did^^ So I would keep it. Paywall, membership... I don't know a single youtuber who has less money than I do. I was on youtube when it was about fun and sharing and self expression and not about income. I miss those times. Now we can never be sure how much honesty is left. From making content just to make content, to making longer videos to squeeze in more ads, it has all gone down the pipe on yt. Hobbies became business models. Daily uploads to stay relevant instead of monthly quality have become the norm. You make quality content, I don't think you could do it if you had to follow such a tight schedule. Advice for all new youtubers: If you can't or don't want to afford a camera and the time (5 minutes on video will usually take 1 hour in editing^^), don't do it. Just don't tell people you can't do it unless there's more money coming your way. Make it a hobby, not your main job. I quit making videos and my life got better lol

Great Video Matt. Just tried this patch on my Behringer Model D and it did a super job of nailing the sound. I've also got a Dave Smith Pro2 and although it produces some sublime sounds it just cannot do the fat Moog bass sounds without a lot of post-equalisation and even then doesn't quite get there with its DCOs. So if I want a good thick bass sound I go straight to the Boog. I just wish my fingers were as agile as yours! As for your videos and streams please keep them free and accessible to all, the content of your videos are so interesting I can suffer the ads.
