@@callsignheinz7987 transmitting 5watts on the FRS channel is illegal.

@@Francois_Dupont actually transmitting at all on this radio is illegal because it is not part certified and unless you have a ham licence you can't transmit on those frequencies either.

@@Bourb5.0 a Ham can transmit on any equipment. it doesn't need to be certified. many ham build their own DIY part kit bought from china and its the Ham responsibility to check if the equipment is transmitting correctly without making too much interference for others.

You can use boafeng as long as you keep it on low watts and only stick to the free license channels, act responsible and you should have no problems, it’s when people start calling out on all kinds of frequencies that are for other services or ham radio that things get the wrong kind of attention. I know you not supposed to do this either but I know people that have for years even on 8 watts and never had a problem just check your frequencies and make it that you can’t transmit on the ones that are for others, you can use chirp download. Just be respectful and responsible with your boafeng and you should be ok.

You shouldn't need to round up because the frequencies are so close that it should still work!

Yes, you need to turn it to low power, you'll still be putting out 1W though, nobody is going to witch hunt you for it, you technically aren't supposed to use those channels with a UV5R anyway 😂

You can use them for listening without a license. Transmitting does require a license.
