I told them, "Sure, if you want to." I used an old iPad and a half a case of soda to keep my hand steady. I challenge them to do better. Apparently they never excepted that challenge. How sad...
Scott... you blew my mind when I saw you were using HEF frequencies. Those are the very ones I need to put into my IC-A6 (Identical to the A24, but there are no VOR functions or NAV frequency capabilities). Youssef, I can't speak for other countries, but in the U.S. a radio license is not required as long as the radio is used as a radio station in a plane.
This is a very helpful video about a solid radio with a horribly designed programming system. I'm just a weekend pilot, but I don't see how a solo pilot could safely access most of the functions in this radio in flight.
Please could you help identify a problem with my same radio: The reception is cut intermittently every 5 sec and the Rx sign disappears for an instant. Equal intervals. Strangely, reception is OK on Wx channel and on the emergency channel when dialed by the red emergency button. When I dial the same 121.5 by hand it starts to interrupt. Very strange… Thanks!
Many thanks for your video..I have an ICOM IC-A6E..my local airport has changed all the frequencies..and I am unable to input the changed frequencies..the airport has updated the frequency by a segment of 5 for eg atis is old freq 127.475..now updated to 127.480,now as my icom alters in segments of 25 as you can see I have a bit of a problem..any advice will be much appreciated
Wow! It has been a long time since I worked with this radio. I do recall some mention on being able to shift frequencies by 5kHz, but I don’t recall ever doing it. At the time there was a lot of talk of going from 25kHz spacing to 5kHz to increase the number of frequencies available for use. The problem was all the legacy equipment people own that couldn’t work with the higher resolution. Many of the radios ICOM produced still exist as they are a very high quality radio but lack in intuitive ability to operate. At the time their technical support horribly lacked. The only reason I made these videos was because I had an incredibly tough time getting the company to support their own equipment. Not one to accept no for an answer, I finally got one of their technicians to work with me and together we figured it out enough to get by. Years later ICOM contacted me about the rights to these videos. ICOM wanted my permission to use the videos and I told them they could but also challenged them to make better videos on their equipment. As far as I am aware, they never accepted that challenge. This was a great example on how flawed internal company politics can really make a company with great potential from becoming an industry leader. If you want to try and make this radio work as you need, I suspect it has the potential. However, it would most likely take calling the company, letting them know what your trying to do and working with them to figure it out. If it were me, I would try to entice them to work with me by letting them know you plan to make a RU-vid video on how to do it. This would solve your problem and it would provide documentation that you could come back to that you will inevitably forget once you set the radio down for a couple of months. It would help those that are suffering from the same problem. I know that is not what you wanted to hear, but it is the best I can offer you. Best of luck in finding an answer.
Not sure if you still monitor this video but right off the bat I hit: F - Bank and nothing happens. The "F" icon in the top left screen just goes away. I turn the dial to change the bank and the frequency just changes. Any ideas?

Hi Michael, I'm not familiar with the Icon product you're using. I would recommend you give Icon a call and talk with them about it. I'll say their customer service is nothing to be desired. Because of this I will probably never buy another Icon product. Stand your ground, and don't take no for an answer. Your right, their instruction manuals suck so when you figure this out, do a RU-vid video like I did. Then when you forget, which you will, you have something to help you out. As an added bonus, you might find people that you will have helped with your video and extended you resources network. Best of luck in getting the answers you seek.
