I ended up programming because it was the vehicle to get the result I wanted, the computer is a tool to make cool stuff you enjoy

43 year old programmer...my advice would also be to have a hobby that doesn't involve code - I enjoy fixing things around the house and woodworking. There's something innately satisfying about being able to look at your work in a physical manner. Even if this is building PC towers, making your home office cool, whatever. Make sure your physical world doesn't suffer because of an obsession with a digital world.

If you work more than you are paid for, because you don't know how to work less, no hobby can compensate it.

My physical world can burn if I always have access to a digital world where all my hobbies are. I hate doing physical work, it's so useless, it's gonna eventually wither away while my most valuable work is backed up in multiple places and in the cloud

I feel like college is a big culprit of why many people dislike coding or quit. For me, the first 2 years were almost unbearable because they only wanted i us to work on un realistic problems or shove algorithm questions down our throats. It almost made me quit until we started building actual applications. Web apps made everything come full circle for me. I highly suggest anyone to build apps you’ve found yourself in a rut

Back in my senior highschool days I got interested in tech in general. Started jailbreaking consoles and openlining phones for myself and my friends. I did some basic web dev like html and css during that time and I loved it. I decided to pursue computer engineering in college and when I got out I don’t want to even do any programming anymore. I lost my passion because all it gave me was pure stress. Now I’m looking for other fields that don’t give as much stress as programming.

I'm programming for 25 years now. Still to this day I have no problem losing endless hours on some programming problems that are fun for me. I wanted to know how cheats, hacking and game dev work. I went deep into the rabbit hole at a very young age and my father is a programmer to gave me quick answers that otherwise at that time (without the internet or barely a working internet) hard to get. One of the first things I was really proud of was a raytracer writtern by a minor and understanding all the math involved. I learned through fun and tried to grasp most important concepts with small PoC programms that were fun for me. You learn about let's say SQL, maybe write a small ORM Mapper or even a small Database with an interpreter. Even if it doesn't work correctly you will learn a ton. Maybe a bad example. I like the video a lot, because often people lose passion or didn't have a chance to develop it. Because the grind is hard and strange if you do it without fun. In the professional field there are programmers, who have a huge knowledge base but no experience. I usually in interviews can tell if you learned it from the book or if you experienced it. Enjoy the journey, you will eventually become good if you love it and learn your craft properly instead of grinding for an exam or so. Also I see alot of younger people compare themselfs with myself for example, which I have to say "don't". I do this for 25 years, you can't expect to reach that level in a couple of month. Also Programming evolves alot and fast. Programming 20 years ago looked very different than it does today. Back then we had todo more by hand, which lead to more fuckups, but also teached us way more. Today you have too many options and often too many information and also too much bad information. The amount of garbage I read in stackoverflow, which has the most upvotes is insane. Also because you can today literlly build an application without having any knowledge about memory management and CPU caches and so on, people knowadays don't know that stuff. Which often leads to having huge gaps in their fundamental knowledge. If you know what your code does down to the hardware level than there isn't much that you won't understand at least on a code level. I talk to much, just my 2 cents. I have more but this is already getting to long. TL;DR Great video, enjoy the journey! It's a long journey but for me an awesome one!

Like , even if you love coding so much , it can be sometimes over whelming and can demotivate you , simply because you really need to use your brain (for beginners) but despite of all this , i myself love coding even if it is hard sometimes like doing crazy stuff like creating 15 dimensional array and and think in very complex way !

For me the burnout isn’t caused by coding something I like. It’s more like a time pressure thing. It feels like every time I barely finish a little game for let’s say politics class, suddenly we are doing a creative task in English, for which I choose the option to develop another game, which is fun in the beginning but then just feels like a stressful job (especially when I didn’t futureproof and need to rewrite horrendous amounts of code)

That's true. Most of my programming is done in java for Minecraft, usually plugins for my minecraft server where I play with my friends. Doing this made me learn a LOT. and I'm happy too, that somewhere in the future when I will grow up I will be able to get a decent job without too much effort. But this is just a nice fact, I don't care too much. I'm programming because I love to do it, and as Tim say this is what you should do. If you are forcing to do boring stuff that you don't like stop, and find something you enjoy. :)

In my opinion it does not matter what we do, most people can enjoy anything even things they can't imagine they would enjoy. The important thing is getting better and having appropriate challenge. That's why I plan how I will get better and how I will enjoy stuff. If certain conditions are met incredible amount of things can be enjoyable. Cal Newport describes it amazingly in his book "So good they can't ignore you". It worked for me, saved some time and made my work much more enjoyable. I hope it helps some of you too. :)

If you do not get a proper education you have no idea how to solve programming tasks at a proper level of abstraction. 99% that you hardcode everything which greatly increases the amount of your work you cannot complete during regular working hours. That means you work for free, and the free work burns you out. Programming means making less work for everyone, not more for yourself. If you do not get this concept, look for other career options.
