Programming the Motorola DTR600 and DTR700 

The Motorola DTR600 and DTR700 are designed to operate on 902-928 MHz frequencies in ITU Region 2 only, which includes North and South America. We are based in the US, so we have no information as to whether or not there is a version of the DTR series for use in Australia. You many need to contact a Motorola dealer in your country for assistance.

You will need to build a new profile for the DTR700. You cannot write a profile from the DTR550 and DTR650 into a DTR600 or DTR700 due to changes that make their profiles incompatible. However, all the radios should be able to communicate with each other.

The DTR600 is fully compatible with the previous models in the DTR series out of the box.

No, the DTR series operates on the 900MHz band using frequency hopping spread spectum or FHSS with a proprietary algorithm incorporated by other Motorola DTR and and DLR series radios. These radios are not compatible with conventional ham radio repeaters.

i swear i used to do the same with DTRs but now i am having no luck. seems only the genuine cabbles work

Hi Jordan, thanks for your question! The DTR700 software is managed by Motorola, so unfortunately we cannot provide a solution in this case. It is possible that the site itself may be down or have connectivity issues, so the best course of action would be to contact Motorola's support directly.

It could be an issue with the cable's internals, or perhaps the software should be reinstalled. The cable should work with the DTR600 right out of the box. Is the cable damaged at all?

@@BuyTwoWayRadios it was new in the box. Genuine motorola too. I did buy it off ebay, but it was in sealed package. I feel like it's an com port setting or maybe the cable driver.

The CPS is web based, and session timer closes out the session if there is no input within the alloted time.

The latest version of the DTR CPS should still be compatible with the DTR650.

No. To clarify, the CPS should work with all the models right out of the box. Keep in mind that you cannot load from a DTR650 and save it to a DTR600 or DTR700. It's DTR650 to DTR650.

The Motorola DTR600 and DTR700 are license-free radios and operate on the 900MHz ISM band, so it is legal for personal or business use.

Motorola’s website does not say you can use the radio for personal use or business use

That is because Motorola designed the DTR series specifically for business and commercial use, however it can be used by the average consumer as well. The 900MHz band is license-free and can be used by anyone. As another example, Motorola also designed the RMM2050 for business use, but it's a MURS (Multi-Use Radio Service) radio, which is also a license-free service, and can be used by businesses or consumers.

That is cool that you can use the radios for personal use .

That depends on a number of factors, including location, type of building, terrain, elevation, etc. However, Motorola claims the DTR600 and DTR700 can reach up to 350,000 square feet or 30 floors of coverage indoors with the supplied whip antenna.

This was intended as a general tutorial. It was not necessary or practical to open a half dozen radios and physically read them all in order to explain the overall programming process. It was a simulation. As explained in the video, as long as the IDs entered match the radios assigned to them, you should be good to go. You can read the radio by connecting it through the charger, or pulling it from the menu on the radio and entering it manually as simulated in the video. As stated in the video, the ID numbers do need to match. If they don't match it's not going work.
