I am a builder and have used this watch every day for the last 4 months. I have properly abused this watch! Constantly smacking it off things. Its been covered in plaster, cement, bonding adhesive and bodger foam. getting saw dust and sand in all the little cracks. I give it a scrub in the shower in the evening and all the dirt and bits of concrete drop off. When it gets really dirty I give it a scrub with a toothbrush. The rubber doesn't seem to bond with anything. Its amazing! It still looks new! And it actually looks better as the rubber dulls slightly, like a matt blackish. If you buy one, abuse it. Don't treat it nicely!! You don't need to....
SURE DOES :-) Which Reminds Me how i Otten Think Back On How My First Casio A Few Decades Ago,, Was Silver & Believe It Or Not WAS ALL Metal & IT BEEPED On Both The Hour & HALF Hour...The HOUR WAS THE USUAL 2 FAST BEEPS & THE HALF HOUR WAS A SINGLE ONE BEEP SO YOU KNEW WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING THAT YOU WERE INTO THE HALF HOUR :-) CASIO PLEASE BRING THAT SH1T BACK & KNOW FOR A FACT URBAN GENTRY & I WOULD DEFINITELY BE BUYING ONE :-) In fact i Know I Still have It Buried Around here Somewhere,.. I JUST Don't Know Where?? LOL
Wow, never thought I’d get a chance to watch this simple intro from TGV! Gotta say I had a lot fun of watching your earlier videos sir! You’ve definitely improved in every aspect of your vídeo producing and watch knowledge. Keep up your great work onwards & upwards 😉
You make very good points that aren't spoken of in other videos. Mission accomplished. Much respect for your professional opinion and demeanor (Hence my finding YOUR review). The work is appreciated.
Brian Rookard Thank you Brian, of course I worked it out after making the video! Typical. Thanks for helping anyway, Enjoy your rangeman! Best regards, TGV
This is my second review that I did. I asked a question in the first review about how you made your seconds sub-dial move. Well I figured it out. Great review. Keep them coming.
Hi Michael, Thank you for the support. I had no idea you could change the way the sub dial seconds move... how did you change it? Welcome to the channel. Best regards TGV
The Urban Gentry You have to press D,E and A at the same time and then you use a or c to scroll through to get it to work. I'm not sure how to do it all the time. I will learn and then I will send the to do it step by step. Maybe we can help each other? Please get back to me when you get this. Thank You for welcoming me to your channel.
TUG - just purchased the rangeman 3 weeks ago. I have a couple Rolex's - needed one for city traveling. - I like it. still learning more about it. ( oct/ 2021 ). so far- very very nice. ~ JDS/CT
Hi TGV. Thank you for a great review. I own G-Shock G-9300 Mudman since 2016. I have intensively worn/used it every day running errands, for travel trips, in the ocean, during firearm trainings and construction times. It is a beast. With 7 years of intensive usage, I only change the band once because the little loose part that holds both bands together once u wear the watch got torn. Otherwise, it is an excellent time peace and I am very happy til this day. The only down part I would mention when we compare the Mudman with the Rangeman the buttons on Mudman are hard and takes a bit pressure using your fingers to press each button. Vs. Rangeman is easier to use. I use most of its features as well. Thanks
I own three Pro Trek watches that I have bought over the past few years, I love them all. Thanks to you Sir, I now have the Rangeman on its way to me. Great channel here and Roll on Friday.
Great watch...very tough. Mines been in use for a couple years (I’m a fire fighter) and it still looks basically like new. I added some jays and jays bull bars for added protection
The older blue backlight is called an EL backlight. I prefer them to the LEDs as well, but all new Casio designs seem to have the latter, presumably to save power.
I love horology but after looking at this watch review I will now have my first Rangeman v3 in a few days! I hope you are feeling stronger now brother!
Thanks LD. Certainly is! So many useful features and for under $300!!! It still amazes me.... Even when its just sitting on the shelf, I still use it. A quick glace at the world time or barometer to check the weather, always comes in useful. Also I like the security of not having to depend on the internet or smart phone for weather/time/tracking. It really is the best bit outdoor/survival gear I have.
I wish Casio would make an ABC watch with both sunrise/sunset and moon phase. The G-Shock GW9400 is too big for me, but I do have a Pathfinder PAW2000 that I like a lot. Like the GW9400, the PAW2000 does include the sunrise/sunset feature.
@@NathanChisholm041 The PRW-2500 models lack sunrise/sunset, but they do have tides. The newer Rangeman GPR-B1000 has sunrise/sunset, moon phase and tides, but it's expensive and huge. The new GBX-100 has all three as well.
Great review, I'm getting lost in all the GW9400 models number for this watch, is there a difference other than the color in the Rangeman series? and why is the military watch so much more when it the same watch other than being all black? Thanks David
+david sizemore with G-Shock the diff prices for seemingly the same watch are due to availability. They make different amounts of different models which drives the price up.
I agree with you that the rangeman is probably the best ABC watch in the market, at least in terms of functionality and toughness. In short, if there was a nuclear war or some other global catastrophe or zombie/alien invasion, this would be the watch I carry to increase my scarce chances of survival... Anyway, from an aestetic point of view, I would not change my Protrek PRW 6000 with the rangeman. II think that the Protrek is the right watch for almost any occasion: office, outdoor, everyday life AND the end of the world. If I am going to die, let's do it with style!
Nice unit, I have several beater digital every day watches some even with atomic radio time keeping function . The thing I really look for now is titanium case sapphire and metal band and all digital display ( no hands ) . The closest I have is a Citizen U600 unfortunately it does have a multitude of mechanical hands. The reason I don't want mechanical hands is it makes is much more robust. Keep up the good work
Citizen U600 is a great bit of kit, amazing features for such a reasonable price point. Glad to hear your opinion on the whole "beater" genre and what you use. Thank you Mario, always an honor and a pleasure!
Thanks for posting this video. I'm so on the fence about getting one of these. I think the size of the thing for me might be the biggest drawback. I do have an ancient G-Shock DW 6100 that does the sunrise-sunset and temperature quite nicely and two years ago got a Protrek PRW-2500 which I love. Still, over 90% of the comments I've seen about this watch are extremely positive. Anyway, thanks again for posting this.
lostwombat14 You are very welcome. I hope you find what you are looking for. If size is an issue, may I recommend the PRW-3000. It may not be as robust as the range man but its much smaller and sleeker. Let me know how you get on, and please forgive the late reply, I was on vacation. Best regards, TGV
I own a titanium bracelet ProTrek and two G-Shocks, love both lines, so I just ordered this. Can't beat G-Shock for ruggedness. This is probably the ultimate travel / adventure watch.
Great review makes me miss my Casio Pathfinder I had a few years back. +1 on the body heat throwing off the thermometer but I really don't think there is anyway to fix that, the body's gonna give off heat no matter what but these watches are meant to be taken off and laid flat on a tree stump or the ground when using most of the functions.
The Urban Gentry Hi there. My Rangeman arrived today and I'm more than impressed by it, on many different levels. I'm going to spend a little time getting used to it and I'll let you know how it goes. Best regards, Andy
@@Conbean2000 Hi! It is big but not huge watch 😉 It is bigger than DW 5600 And it is a bit bigger than some Mudman as there a few... I have 18-18.5 cm wrist and it fits very good! When wearning normally I keep it on a wrist and when I am on a Gym, I just move it to forearm! And I can do all excercises and this sensor button don't interfere 😉 Put on YT question Casio Rangeman vs Mudman and there are film where you have direct comparisions on one hand even both 😉
i seriously want one. should i just be safe and buy it from the g-shock website, or do you think amazon will be able to give me a good one? jw if you know.
I know this is an old video now, but it doesn't have your usual enthusiasm that you bring. Your video's have been a large inspiration for me and one of the key things that got me into horology. Not sure if you were having a "off day" or just not feeling it for this watch, either way it's great to see the energy you have put into more recent videos. People at work find it funny that I go from a G-Shock one day to an Omega the next, very different watches but they both bring me joy. Would be interested to know if you still have a passion for this watch or if it's just collecting dust somewhere? All the best.
Hi TGV, great reviews on this outstanding watch. I wonder in time if they will make it GPS as well so those who like to keep fit can track their speed and distance. Do you have any idea if any of this is going to be added and in what time frame?
Todd Clay Hi Todd. Great question. Its already happened in fact, check out the garmin fenix 2. I had one briefly and then sent it back, it was VERY buggy and not really finished but was exciting to see where these "smart" and surveil watches are going. Thank you, Best regards, TGV
The Urban Gentry Hi TGV, I believe I saw your review on that one and looking around I kept coming back to the G Shock Rangeman and have ordered it. Hopefully Casio is working to put in GPS with an ABC watch then most likely I'll upgrade to that. I guess keeping the watch size down could be a challenge for them. Cheers Todd
Brandon Maples HI Brandon, great timing, I just uploaded a video on the Mudman, literally right now. Might assist your make up your mind. Thanks for the comment. Best regards, TGV
Complete newbie question on Casios: How much less tough are ProTreks? I prefer the look of the 3500 ProTrek and am not sure I need a G-Shock if I just want to hike in the desert? Hiking isn't a terribly strenuous on watches so can I assume that the ProTrek will be just fine?
+geshtin I have been told if you dash the protrek on a rock like you were falling they will break. That would be me. I broke a fall with a seiko 5 and destroyed it totally.
If you hike with a pro teck, there is the posibility you might not make it out alive. With gshock, you just push the rescue helicopter button and they will come, and they will bring beer.
you probably know by now, but yes it does have an hourly signal, "beeping on the hours"...you scrolled right through it at 13:11....it will display "SIG" on the top for hourly signal. You must have it turned off.
Hey nice review! If possible could you please do a review on the new GWG1000 Mudmaster as I'm contemplating buying one however I would appreciate your thoughts on the matter before I fork out the hefty pricetag. I personally feel that the Rangeman has sunset sunrise where as the Mudmaster does not, also the light on the Rangeman is better than the light on the Mudmaster. However the Mudmaster is such a good looking piece and has the benefit of the sapphire crystal which I'm a big fan of. If you could do a review it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
+The Urban Gentry well, I've made a decision and in the end have gone for the Rangeman! 😁 The cost of the Mudmaster was just a bit too pricey for me at the moment. I'm happy with my decision and look forward to trying it out in the field. Thanks again for the advice 👍
This Rangeman does have on the hour signal. I use mine all the time. I'm sure by now you know this. Please let me know when you receive this. Thank You.
Great progress report. I was just thinking can we expect another progress report let's say 1 year of use :D that would be awesome. I have mine Rangeman for about 3 months and i was wondering did you had any problems with yours during the winter like condensation uder the glass or something like that? I love that watch so much that I have decided get rid of all my other G Shock-s and leav just that one for me this is The ultimate G Shock if not the ultimate watch :D. I ask you about the condensation because i had that problem with one of my other G Shock-s. Тhanks in advance for your answer. Cheers :)
Borislav Yordanov Thank you! Great comment, thank you for taking the time to share that. I have another few G-shocks on the way. As for condensation, never happened to me, well YET! Best regards, TGV P.s. New watch review just uploaded ;-)
I'm looking to get a G-shock for training/going to gym. Which one do you recommend? The Mudman? Barometer would be nice for predicting rain when running though!
I would be very thankful if you can reply me! As am going to purchase this watch after lots of thinking & saving money but some people on internet are saying that the Lugs of Rangeman breaks, can you please tell me how is your watch now ? As i am planning to get it for a long time use. Thanks
Relax and enjoy... You'll never break the lugs on this model.. There have been 6 reported breaks in 3 years compared to the thousands sold.. Of the 6, 2 could not be verified, one was caused through an atv crash and the remaining 3 looked like the most beat up watches I've ever seen....
I'm thinking of going for the Protrek PRW 3000 since I think it looks better and want a black watch with a negative display around this price. But I love the durability of a G Shock. Is the PRW 3000 going to last me as long?
14:02 you don't need to take off the watch to get the right temperature reading. Only have to do is adjust the reading while the watch is on your wrist /15 min at least/ to the thermometer in the room where you are. You can get pretty accurate temperature readings like this while wearing your watch.
Not really. Your wrist will stay pretty close to the same temp if you're outside in 50°f or 70°f. I thought I could try that hack but it isn't effective and what makes it worse is when you then want an accurate reading like the morning weather while camping you can't get one. It is best to accurately set it with a thermometer before a trip and then when you need it take it off for 20 to 30 min.
Maybe it's a newer version that wasn't around in 2014, but there is a rangeman with negative display. The GW-9400-3. It's army green with yellow accents and a negative display.
lol. No problem. I know its difficult in this "attention deficit times" we live in. ;-) This channel really is an acquired taste, most come here for the horological ramblings. I am sure there are channels more suited to your entertainment needs out there. Best regards, TGV
Good morning. It's 6:54 and I'm relaxing with a great cup of coffee. I have a question for you Bro. I would like to use the power saving, but I don't want it to stop showing the RC indicator buy turning on this cool mode will it suddenly turn off the RC mode? One more thing. I've had my Rangeman for almost a year and it still looks new. I thought about pulling the trigger and buying the Burton Collaboration in the all white. I still watch your video's. Keep them coming. Please get back to me when you receive this message. Have a great Sunday. '
I just noticed a scratch on the glass on my 3 month old Rangeman despite a real outdoors test yet. I know I have knocked it wearing it at home and in the office-my bad luck and should get outdoors more! I understand it has "The tough, scratch-resistant mineral glass protects the watch against unsightly damage".
I couldn't agree with you more. I also like that you can hit the lower right button and activate the stop watch instantly . You don't have to find the stop watch first. Hit the button and boom. Very casual review for you. Either you just dropped an Old Fashion or your favorite female has distracted you but still I enjoyed the slightly more casual video. Thanks.
I know I'm very late to the party and don't expect a reply; but I was very much on the fence with upgrading my 7900 to this 9400 for several years and I'm nowhere close to making a final decision. But I do totally agree that the previous generation back light was superior and while your video had the best example of the 9400's back light, that's still the feature I dislike the most about it.
i love my g shock..it is light and easy on the wrist...it is my most accurate watch which i can set all my other watches buy...it is chunky and looks good...its jack russell proof and i am looking for another one...
Good enough for Tyler good enough for me. Also it does have the hourly beep just go to alarm scroll through all the alarms and turn on sig. 6 years later and still good!
I know its a little late but a square will fit just fine. DW5600E-1V You can find it sometimes under $40 brand new and shipped. If not Target will often have them for a little over that.
I really like mine as as well. I own the GW-9400-3CR in the olive green. Why was your seconds moving like that? Please get back to me when you read this. Great video.
Michael Kish If you have the 999 hour stop watch running the seconds window looks that way to remind the user it is running. I have this Rangeman watch and wear it most of all my watches. :)
artemis sidecross I also wear mine the most too. Thank You for answering my question. You are the only person who really gave a good answer. Thank You for that.
artemis sidecross I also wear mine the most too. Thank You for answering my question. You are the only person who really gave a good answer. Thank You for that.
Michael Kish I like mine that I have two Rangeman watches. I have the olive negative that I use after dark and standard positive for day time. A negative Rangeman is the best watch to read time in the dark. :)
Hi someone may have already told you this but you can have the hourly beep on this model you just go into the alarm mode and scroll through the alarms till you come to sig with the double zero and I am not to sure which button it is ( I think it's the bottom right ) but this will activate the hourly chime. I hope this helps.
Good morning. You might know this already? But if you don't want to scroll to the time mode you can hold the button and it will go straight to the time mode. Have a Merry Christmas. Please get back to me when you get this. Thank You.
If you like the Range Man then you will like Casio G-Shock GW-3500B-1ACR. It has both analog digital. This a very cool watch. It's not too big and not small. I have small wrists and it fits like a glove. Check it out. Let me know what you think. Please get back to me when you read this. Great video.
If this watch had a vibrating alarm, I would buy it right now. Can someone help me with a suggestion of a similar watch? I want a similar design, construction quality, and price range, except with the option for vibrating alarms and needs to at least be a Twin Sensor for thermometer readings.
After doing a little more research, it appears what i'm looking for might not even exist. There are no "ABC" watches with vibration alarm. Kind of ridiculous.
I'm sure their are a ton of people in the comments telling you this but you can get an hourly chime by going to your alarms, then signal (sig) and turn that on. Thats your hourly chime.
I have a question for you. I seen a guy press the button's while under water. Is that safe and can this G-Shock handle it even under water? Please get back to me when you get this. Thank You.
Oof, i absolutely hate the negative display for these. I purchased the green rangeman and put it right back in the box and returned it. You can barely ever see the time on those even in decent lighting.
This is my beloved beater watch for instances where the Aquaracer chronograph would come home damaged. My wrists are 7-inch and quite plateaued on the top - this results in space between the unbending jagged section of the strap and the top edges of my wrist. There is no functional problem but it does feel weird and insecure despite sitting in place. I believe this may be true for almost all g shocks with straps of the same design. I've decided to go buy a 2-piece zulu with Suppa-G adaptors. These hinge freely and will pivot closer to my wrist, thereby providing that snug fit. P.s. I took out the 4 screws - the bling was too distracting for what I felt was a utilitarian piece. Those screws are purely cosmetic - they're not threaded or glued in. A small flathead screwdriver will pry them out.
I think the lack of responses speaks good itself! No issue with the lugs brother... It's an urban myth. According to the Casio Australia repair Center they have never seen broken lugs on a rangeman an in fact stated that this model was one of their most robust units made. Mate you'll never break it.....
