I've been working on re-memorizing chunks of this ballade over the last week. I have a lesson this weekend and ideally would like to play this from memory.
Here's today's attempt at playing through from memory except where I knew I'd have to peek in measures 97-139. Luckily, that section is not that difficult technically, which I guess perhaps makes it harder for my brain to prioritize memorizing it as means of survival 😅
I'm also focusing on extra harmonic shaping and dissipating physical tension at this slower tempo - it's only going to get more challenging from here! It's interesting to feel the difference in how I'm playing the piece now versus 2 years ago, especially the virtuosic presto sections and coda. Before it was just pure madness / attempt at survival, and it was always very inaccurate and unreliable even if I could hit the ~7 minute mark. Now that I have the confidence that I will be able to play it cleanly at close to tempo this time around, I don't feel the need to rush to get to that point.
