In 1920, the 18th Amendment was enacted banning the sale of alcohol across the country. However, in our "land of steady habits," alcohol consumption was a habit that proved hard to break.
In the CPTV original documentary, Prohibition: Connecticut Goes Dry, filmmakers Jennifer Boyd and Sara Conner explore Connecticut's unique role in the prohibition movement, from the early temperance advocates of Litchfield to the lawless rum runners of Long Island Sound. The program explores the creation, rise, and fall of prohibition in the state.

Thank you so much for this video! My 9th great grandfather was one of the original proprietors of Norwich. He got his land from Uncas. His first recorded event was marriage to my 9th great grandmother, in Saybrook in 1628. I have lived in Washington my entire life. This is the best amount I've ever heard of what early life way like in Connecticut. This is illuminating!

Interesting/informative/entertaining. Excellent still -motion photography pictures 📷. Enabling viewers to better understand what the orator is describing. Special thanks to guest speakers sharing personal information pertaining to the daily activities of local residents. Prohibition morons gave the organized crime syndicates control of the big cities & beyond.

@@ShushaSofia They've already attempted to prove pretty much everything in the book wrong with weed and 99.9% of it was debunked. Even on the lung damage front, studies indicate that the lung tissue of an over-smoker fully redevelops rapidly if they cut down and moderate. As opposed to cigarette smokers who's lungs never fully recover once they've smoked for more than 5 years. There has been a ton of research for decades already in the UK and even in the US and very little of it has shown permanent or fatal damage unless you start as a teenager or child. Let's not forget how the FDA keeps trying to convince everyone that weed is just as bad as heroin. It's fucking ridiculous. Personally I think it's time to end ALL prohibition on ANY recreational substance. Just think about how much rehab money they're wasting pretending to care about enforcing the drug laws.

Signing a pledge to drink no more doesn't sound like temperance to me. Why was alcoholism so rampant? I find that strange. Was liquor so cheap or something? So many times a movement will have a name that sounds good, and they use that name to promote what they do. However, what they name is, or what their name is, is not much about what they really do. It's often used as stalking horse, something that might look harmless, that they can hide behind so they can sneak up on their game.
@WalkerRileyMC
@WalkerRileyMC 3 года назад
It was very cheap. It was usually drank at every meal. You could pick up a bottle of alcohol for extremely cheap. You could easily brew beer at home. Stills were just about everywhere. As for your last paragraph.....I'm not sure what you are getting at. "Temperance" comes from Latin Tempero, which means to restrain. In this case, restrain from drinking.

It's about having your freedoms taken away by the government. We see it now... ppl who aren't (covid) vaccinated, such as myself, aren't anti-vax... we are anti the government deciding what's best for me. If the vaccination makes it so MY time with covid would be easier IF I caught it (and I still haven't) then it's MY decision whether or not I want an easier time with covid ... but we are seeing now that even the vax doesn't mean you are guaranteed an easier time with covid. It all comes down to freedom of choice. Alcohol. Vaccinations. Guns. Etc.

She didn't even start preaching against alcohol until 1899, a full THIRTY years after the death of her first husband. No, she wasn't pissed off about her husband dying from drinking. There has never been a revolution, small or large, in the United States that did not at least start with riots and non-conformity. With the two criminal organizations we call democrats and republicans, now more than ever the only way to get real change is to exterminate the two parties.... preferably physically but I'd settle for em all having to serve their lives out in Guantánamo Bay. Problem is most things that can get the attention of the masses in a timely fashion are illegal. Then people falsely call them "criminals" for breaking the overly restrictive protest laws. The laws regarding protests are written in such a way that it discourages any meaningful protest. You basically have to break those laws to get anywhere with a protest.

@@captainnebulous2918 There is a thing that happens with certain ads on RU-vid. Because of the way RU-vid allows some ads to control (most likely data mining) the viewer. With Banner ads and close ad in 5 sec, when I hit the close button it also hits the full screen button. This is not supposed to happen. I have notified RU-vid 3 or 4 times and got no response so if youtube does not care I thought maybe a content creator would and they would complain to RU-vid. Then I might hear from RU-vid.
